SEMINAR-WORKSHOP ON FOLKDANCES 2019

(NARRATIVE REPORT)

Carcar City Division conducted a 3-day Seminar- Workshop on Folkdances last June 26-
28, 2019. MAPEH teachers both in elementary and secondary was the participant of the training-
workshop. Carcar City Gym serves as the dancefloor for the teachers for 3 days. It was a time of
building new friendship at the same time deepening the roots of Filipinos through dances. The
program gave prominence to old and new dances from the northern to southern parts of the
Philippines.

Mentors shared passionately the different dances during the workshop. What made it
even more exciting was the dance introduced and taught by the Schools Division Superintendent,
Sir Senen P. Paulin. The journey towards uncovering the rich culture and heritage of the
Philippines through dances inspired teachers to share it to their pupils.

During the closing program, participants are task to perform the different folkdances. It
started with a very lively street dancing and followed by the different showcases of the
folkdances taught during the seminar-workshop. Participants learned innovative ways of
deepening the cultural facet and very much grateful to met passionate dance researchers in the
field.

Putting all these together, the experience was more than just the dances and teaching
methods learned. It was a very enriching and empowering experience to impart to the
community, especially to our pupils – to be aware of our deep and rich heritage, to be proud of
innate Filipino talents, and to be bearers of culture and tradition so that it may be passed on to the
younger generation.
