Established in 2014, GetMyUni is an ed-tech start-up disrupting the college admissions

life involving their college. Since its inception, it has come a long way in understanding the
various domains of education promising best advice to students in making career choices by
relevant information about all the available at a single click.

College dunia:
Launched in 2014, College dunia came with a vision to make the information about Indian Colleges

relevant and apt information of around 20000 colleges, further growing at a pace of 100 colleges per
day. College Dunia consists of dedicated 60 members hustling to make the website first choice for a
researcher to visit when it comes to information on colleges.

Comparative Analysis:
The websites I have chosen for comparative are Getmyuni and College dunia. Both of these websites
have similar target audience consisting of particularly students choosing a particular career path, thus
sharing similar content and so are in direct competition.
Now according to Simpson “A website with good usability and mediocre appearance will almost
always outperform a website with good appearance and poor usability”, implying that it is the
most important characteristic of a website. That is, if the consumers cannot use it, they will not stay
on a website.

In order to test the Navigation and usability of both sites, Lal Bahadur Shastri’s College page was
opened on both of these platforms. As soon as we open the page on both of these platforms, we first
get a general information about the college, that is, where the college is situation when it was
established, the current chairman with a link to the official website. As we scroll down, we get further
information regarding the courses available in the college with their respective fees and duration
along with college infrastructure details, cut-off criteria, selection process and the various accolades
the college has received. Till this point, both the websites were pretty similar as both the websites
offered substantial information to the users in a very clear and effective manner. The main point of
differentiation came with the placing of college reviews and ratings. While Getmyuni placed the
college reviews at the end of the page, College dunia placed at the end and also beside the page
making it easier for a user to have look while side by side scrolling the basic information about the
college. Further, College dunia also had a search box (an important feature if looking for a specific
course of a particular college) making it easier to get information regarding a particular course in a
college offering a variety of courses as in LBSIM offering multiple courses.

Next, coming to College ratings and comparison with other colleges, here Getmyuni took the lead
with the use of various pie charts and satisfaction bars giving a holistic view regarding what the
general rating was for the college. The use of pie charts made it easier to understand majority of
students viewpoint regarding the college at a quick glance without having to go through each and
every review. Further, Getmyuni also has a catalogue containing categories regarding information on
college which means it becomes extremely easier to navigate when looking for a particular
information about a college without wasting wasting time reading other stuff.
Now coming to homepage, which is usually first port of call for users so it is vitally important it
effectively and not in a complex manner showcases the website’s potential, as visitors assess whether
to stay on a page in the first ten seconds. The layout of both Getmyuni and College dunia homepage
are very similar with the navigation bar at the top of the page and the website brand logo at the top
left. Along with that it could be observed that, Getmyuni contains more white space than College
dunia, making it easier on the eyes since it seems less cluttered as compared to College dunia.

Next, the interactive ability of a website is also extremely crucial to keep the users engaged. Both
College dunia and Getmyuni had the tools and features which allowed users to comment and rate
articles, reply to comments and answer questions. Both the websites also had Facebook, Twitter and
an account which signed members up but college dunia had an added feature, it gave access to a
newsletter and extra features such as articles which helped in encouraging loyalty to the website.

Conclusion:
Conclusively, it can be said that, both websites have been successful in coming in the top results in
majority of search engines when using title as a key phrase or enquiring about a particular college.
The usability of both the websites is also extremely easy and demonstrates exactly how a website
should be in terms of navigating and using it. Everything was easy to use a find. The layouts for both
the websites were also quite clear with appropriate amount of white space, making it not dull and
easier to scan for the users. Both the websites are very successful in their own ways, which leads to
the final conclusion that it would be very difficult to suggest which one is better over the other
because ultimately it is up to the individual user to decide what they are looking for and how well a
page caters to their needs at a specific point in time.
