The Importance of English

Introduction

English is a language that can be used by people all over the world.
When we meet and communicate with people abroad, we will need to use
English as the way to communicate or we use their language as the way to
communicate, but we will use English since English is the more commonly
used language and it also became one of the easily International language to be
learned. These days, more and more people are dedicating their time to learn
English as their second language. Many countries include English in their
school syllabus in order to make them prepare in the global world so that they
can speak English whenever they needed to when they speak to other people
from across the world. Even if you’re applying for a job they mostly use
English as the requirements. There are many benefits that can be obtained when
we learn English in our life.

Why English is Very Important for Engineering Students?

The rapid development of technology influences educational and auto-didactic

field in general. For me, I am an Informatics Engineering student and mostly
the things that I study in my field uses English so that is why i need to learn
English because in order to understand the subject in my major I will also need
to understand English . For example, Informatics Engineering uses a code like
C++, C , Python,and many more in which they use English as the language. So,
in order to understand them you will need to learn English because there are no
translator in the integrated development environment (IDE). Many of websites
that teaches you about coding also uses English. You can use google translator
to translate the meaning but 99% the translator result won’t be accurate so that
is why we need to learn English. English is also really needed when looking for
a job because sometimes the ability to write or speak English is one of the
mandatory requirements to be accepted. The ability to speak English also opens
a lot of opportunities such as the opportunity to learn and networking. For
example, I used English to contact some of my friends from other countries and
sometimes I use English in order to study some subject that you can’t find it if
you’re searching it in Indonesian while you can find many if you use English as
the search language.

So, How to Study English Easily for Everyone?

Learning English is pretty easy, you can learn them in Youtube tutorial
videos and even school curriculum or syllabus also uses English as their
optional or mandatory subject. You also need to take some initiative in order to
learn and improve English such as: (a) practising listening independently and
repeating it many times, (b) borrowing books from a library or friends, (c)
copying some pages from a book for studying independently, and (d) checking
difficult words in a dictionary. These are all acts of auto-didactic learning.

In Indonesia, the country that I live at, uses English as a mandatory subject
whether if it is in college or schools. In pandemic like this, our lecturer mostly
use ICT (Information and Communication Technology) integrated with the
teaching method in order to teach us the subject they teach in college. Even
some of middle college tests and assignments involves in the usage of
technologies. You can also use ICT in learning English as long as you have the
will to do it. Technology can be used as a media to practice your English such
as the availability of ICT allows people to look for materials published in
English to the internet and even by the use of ICT ,it can video some
conversations in English and published it on internet so that everybody can
learn how to speak English easily. (Rintaningrum, 2019)

Be careful when learning English, many make mistakes and quits when they try
to learn it but what they don’t know is that everything that you learn need
process and never quit when you make mistakes. Trial and error is definitely
used when you want to learn English.
