Summary

At the start of the week on Monday, it was our first official day of our internship. It was

also the start of a new chapter for myself, along with my other peer students. This day I felt a bit

overwhelmed, along with a truly bittersweet emotion that I felt throughout the day. Today, I felt

accomplished, ready, and capable of all my future endeavors. As Monday started, I took nine

hours in total to conduct deep research for the topic in preparation for writing the paper.

Significantly, I listened to critical testimonials and documentaries on patients talking about their

loss and grieving and how they got the needed assistance from the organization in regards to

grief support services. More so, I learned about the hospital and its policies through materials

provided as well as from their website. On Tuesday, I responded to numerous emails I had

received. These emails include submitting a portfolio to the center, responding to my supervisor

about things that she was needing from me, etc. I also conducted more research on the topic for

the paper. Importantly, I sent our portfolio to the hospital with the hope of getting positive

feedback. Wednesday saw me begin to write out paper and it was an educational process as I

learned significant insights regarding patient’s advocates and grief counselors. I learnt that

patient advocacy is a subject of discussion in the field of nursing is a fundamental moral segment

for the nursing professional. I also learned about the critical roles of patient advocates. I also,

learnt about grief counselors and I derived some important insights. For instance, grief

counseling is profoundly particular and separated from different parts of thanatology. Also,

tending to the expectant grief of the individual is basic for grief counselors. On Thursday, I
continued my writing while still interacting with staff at the hospital that gave me good insights

into the profession. I conducted more research for out paper and also, read more about the

hospital’s policies on advocacy and grieving. On Friday, I did my final touches to the first part of

the topic. I organized the researched ideas for the paper regarding advocacy and grieving. It was

a busy week that I spent a total of 40 hours.
