Summary
At the start of the week on Monday, it was our first official day of our internship. It was
also the start of a new chapter for myself, along with my other peer students. This day I felt a bit
overwhelmed, along with a truly bittersweet emotion that I felt throughout the day. Today, I felt
accomplished, ready, and capable of all my future endeavors. As Monday started, I took nine
hours in total to conduct deep research for the topic in preparation for writing the paper.
Significantly, I listened to critical testimonials and documentaries on patients talking about their
loss and grieving and how they got the needed assistance from the organization in regards to
grief support services. More so, I learned about the hospital and its policies through materials
provided as well as from their website. On Tuesday, I responded to numerous emails I had
received. These emails include submitting a portfolio to the center, responding to my supervisor
about things that she was needing from me, etc. I also conducted more research on the topic for
the paper. Importantly, I sent our portfolio to the hospital with the hope of getting positive
feedback. Wednesday saw me begin to write out paper and it was an educational process as I
learned significant insights regarding patient’s advocates and grief counselors. I learnt that
patient advocacy is a subject of discussion in the field of nursing is a fundamental moral segment
for the nursing professional. I also learned about the critical roles of patient advocates. I also,
learnt about grief counselors and I derived some important insights. For instance, grief
counseling is profoundly particular and separated from different parts of thanatology. Also,
tending to the expectant grief of the individual is basic for grief counselors. On Thursday, I
continued my writing while still interacting with staff at the hospital that gave me good insights
into the profession. I conducted more research for out paper and also, read more about the
hospital’s policies on advocacy and grieving. On Friday, I did my final touches to the first part of
the topic. I organized the researched ideas for the paper regarding advocacy and grieving. It was
