Course Description

This is an introductory course in the field of accounting and finance. It is structured help develop a base for understanding accounting

and financial reporting methodologies and concepts. IT is a pre-requisite for a course “Accounting for Decision Making” and aims at

development of skills of students to enable them to read and understand financial statements and draw inferences from its annual

report and other accounting data. It is expected that students would have a reasonable grasp of how financial data is collected and

used for communication within a corporation and with the outside world.

Teaching and Learning Methodology

LMS will be used to share reading material with the students. The pedagogy used for the course will be a combination of:
- Study of annual reports of various Pakistani companies
- Case analysis
- Oral case discussion
- Role Plays/Activities/Experiential Learning
- In Class Assignments
- Slides
- Readings (online and Embedded in Slides)
- Presentations/Debates – both formal and informal
- Exams
- Self-Study

Going Online
Post closure of educational institutions, a shift to online teaching has become an imperative. It is therefore essential to bring
flexibility and appropriate changes in pedagogy, accessibility and also significantly revise educational measurement methodology.

For all classes detailed power point presentations, practice question, cases are being distributed beforehand and discussion is
encouraged through chat. All zoom session will be recorded and shared with students.

Summative evaluations will include online submission of answers to test in a given time frame in lieu of mid-term and final exam
whereas formative assessment will include online submission of multiple choice quiz answers in a given timeframe, class
participation quantification, online submission of power point presentation of individually assigned Pakistan stock Exchange listed
companies along with individual oral critique thereof.

In assessing students both for informal as well as formal aspects, it would be endeavoured that students have clear understanding of
expectations in each case and these tasks become learning tools.

This is NOT a course on technical aspects of accounting and financial matters, but provides exposure to practical aspects of financial
data and information for general usage in businesses.
