AEROSPACE AMS551 3 REV.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATION Issued 1 953-06

Revised 2009-09
Reaffirmed 201 5-05
Superseding AMS551 3H
Steel, Corrosion-Resistant, Sheet, Strip, and Plate
1 9Cr – 9.2Ni (SAE 30304)
Solution Heat Treated
(Composition similar to UNS S30400)

RATIONALE

AMS551 3J was revised to require bend testing in accordance with ASTM E290 and added product form to the reporting
requirements, and has been subsequently reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy.

1. SCOPE

1 .1 Form

This specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.

1 .2 Application

These produ cts have been used typically for formed and drawn parts requ iring corrosion resistance up to 800 °F (427 °C),
but u sage is not limited to such applications. Welding, brazi ng, or other exposure to temperatures over 800 °F (427 °C)
during fabrication may impair corrosion resistance.

2. APPLI CABLE DOCU M EN TS

The issu e of the following docu ments in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the
extent supplied herein. The su pplier may work to a subsequ ent revision of a d ocument unless a specific document issue
is specified. When the referenced document has been cancelled and no superseding document has been specified, the
last published issu e of that document shall apply.
