DEVELOPMENT OF SURFACES

SIMPLE SOLIDS

1. Develop the full size pattern of a right regular pentagonal pyramid of base edge
24mm and height 50mm.

2. Draw the development of the lateral surface of a right regular hexagonal prism of
24mm base edge and 56mm height. An ant moves on its surface from a corner on
the base to the diametrically opposite corner on the top face , by the shortest route.
Sketch the path of the ant in the elevation

3. Draw the development of a right regular cone of base diameter 60 mm and height
64 mm resting upon HP on its base. An insect moves from a point on its base
perimeter to the diametrically opposite point on the same perimeter through the

shortest path along the curved surface. Mark the shortest path in the front and top
views

mm and is resting on HP with base edges 30◦ inclined to VP. Find the length of
the line drawn on the surface from top corner to the diametrically opposite bottom
corner of the frustum through the shortest path . Also mark the line in the top and
front views.

5. A right regular hexagonal prism of base edge 20mm and height 50 mm rests on its
base with one of its base edges perpendicular to VP. An AIP inclined 45◦ to HP
cuts its axis at its middle. Draw the development of the truncated prism.

its base with one of its base sides parallel to VP. A section plane perpendicular to VP
and inclined 30◦ to HP cuts the pyramid bisecting the axis. Draw the development
of the truncated pyramid

7. A right circular cone, 70 mm base and 70 mm height , rests on its base on the
ground. A section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 30◦ to HP cuts the
cone, bisecting its axis . Draw the development of the lateral surface of the cone.

8. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the truncated right circular cylinder
of diameter 44mm and height 70mm. The solid is placed on its base on HP. A
section plane passing through the geometrical centre of the top face of the solid ,
perpendicular to VP and 45◦ inclnied to HP, cuts off the top portion of the solid.
A similar section plane 30◦ inclined to HP in the opposite direction , cuts the axis
at a height 14mm from the base.

9. A square prism of 40 mm side length and 60 mm height rests on its base upon
HP, such that the vertical faces are equally inclined to VP. A horizontal hole , 40
mm diameter is drilled through the geometrical centre of the prism with the axis
perpendicular to VP. Develop the lateral surface of the prism.

10. A cone of base diameter 80 mm and height 80 mm is resting upon HP on its base.
A horizontal square through hole of 40 mm side is cut in the cone in such a way
that axis of the hole intersects the axis of the cone at a height of 16 mm from the
base and four sides of the hole are equally inclined to HP. Draw the development
of the lateral surface of the cone.
