Description of the subject:

The course explores the concepts of prescriptive analytics by implementing the linear
programming techniques to arrive at a decision making at the managerial level. The course
also gives hands on experience with various forecasting techniques using Microsoft excel
solver.

Learning Objectives
1 Know meaning of Linear Programming (LP), graphical and simplex methods to solve LP
problem.
2 Develop LP model and know how to use Excel Solver to get the solution
3 Know applications of LP in Supply chain, Logistics, Production planning, Human
resource, Sales, Finance
4 Do sensitivity analysis and understand its use
5 Know frequently used methods of time series forecasting viz. Moving Average and
Exponential Smoothing
Course Learning Outcomes ( CLO )
1 Apply LP technique in taking decisions in manufacturing, supply chain and logistics
problem
2 Use sensitivity analysis to take decisions on make or buy, outsourcing of activity and
pricing of resources
3 Forecast demand for a product
