PATROL UPDATE IMPORTANT DATES: CROSS-AGE CONNECTIONS

The Black team has taken over
patrol duties this week. The last
day of duty for the Black team
will be Friday, April 1st. Another
reward trip for patrols will be
coming up in the month of May.

On Friday, April 1, students at Matoska
International will be taking part in
several service learning projects with
their buddy classrooms. They will be
writing letters to children in Honduras
and planting a little bit of sunshine for
elders in a nursing home. Call Gayle in
the volunteer office if you are interested
in volunteering for this event!

 WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
In math this week, we started and
completed Unit 10, which was a short unit on
geometric patterns and transformations. We
learned about the three main types of
transformations – reflections, rotations, and
translations. Next week in math, we will do a
short unit on three-dimensional geometry.
We also started Exhibition this week!
Students did a great job brainstorming topics that
related to our theme “Who We Are” and our
central idea children face risks and challenges.
Based on interest, students were placed into
groups of four or five. They will be working with
this group throughout Exhibition. Students came
up with a group name, created lines of inquiry,
and began researching their topic.
Officer Just came to our class this week to
do our first DARE lesson. She will be coming to
our classroom every Tuesday afternoon for the
next eight weeks to talk about peer pressure,
problem solving, drugs, smoking, and alcohol.
I hope that everyone enjoyed their Spring

YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP…
Our class has now started working on our
Exhibition unit. Each group will be researching
their topic and is required to complete at least
one interview with someone who is able to give
them information about their topic. Topics in our
class are homelessness, bullying, learning
disabilities, peer pressure, and malnutrition.
Please contact me if you or someone you know
have information about these topics or would be
willing to be interviewed by one of our groups.
ROOM 114 – CLASS NEWS COLLECT THOSE BOX TOPS!!
Starting Monday March 28th,
classrooms will be participating in the
Matoska Box Top Challenge. The
classroom that collects the most box
tops by April 15th will win a pizza party
for their class. Start collecting!!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
Parent volunteers are needed to help set up
and hang our classroom art for the Art
Show. Set-up begins at 1:30pm on Friday,
April 15th. Please contact me if you are
interested and able to help!
DARE with Officer Just
MUSIC PROGRAM
Fifth graders are busy rehearsing for their
music program. There will be both daytime
and evening performances. Friends and
family are welcome to attend either or both
of these performances.
Daytime – 2:00pm, Thursday, April 7
Evening – 7:00pm, Thursday, April 7
Students need to be here for the evening
performance and report to their classrooms
by 6:45pm.
