ALSC Notable Every year the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) lists
List the very best books, recordings, and digital media for children.

The BES Award is given by the State of Maryland each year for
Black-Eyed
outstanding picture books, chapter books, and graphic
Susan Award
novels. Children vote for the winning books.
The Pura Belpré Award is given annually to a Latino/Latina writer
Pura Belpré and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the
Award Latino cultural experience.
The American Library Association chooses the Caldecott Medal each
Caldecott year. This award recognizes the creator of the best picture book for
Medal children published the previous year.

Theodor Seuss The Geisel Award is presented yearly to the author and illustrator of
Geisel Medal the most distinguished book for beginning readers.

Horn Book The Horn Book’s annual list of the best children’s books of the
Fanfare previous year.

The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are awarded annually to books
The Coretta Scott that show an appreciation for the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King,
King Awards Jr. and African American culture.

Kirkus Magazine Kirkus Reviews is a professional book review magazine. Reviews are
Reviews posted bi-monthly in each issue.

The Newbery Medal is given by the ALSC to the writer of the most
Newbery Medal distinguished contribution to children’s literature for the year.
Notable Social This annual award list is presented by the National Council for Social
Studies Trade Books Studies and the Children’s Book Council for the best social studies
for Young People books for children.
Outstanding
The National Science Teachers Association and the Children's Book
Science Trade
Council give this award yearly to outstanding science trade books.

Parents’ Choice The Parents’ Choice Awards program recognizes each year’s
Foundation Awards best children’s toys and media that offer learning through play.

The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal is given by the ALSC

Robert F. Sibert to the author and illustrator of the best informational book
Medal published in the previous year.
Stonewall Book Stonewall Book Awards are presented annually to books that have
Awards shown excellence in portraying the experiences of
gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender people.
