Routing with STARTER from the PG/PC via the CPU interfaces
to the drive

Item-ID: 23432199

1 Overview
Routing involves a transition from one sub-network to one or several other sub-
networks located in a SIMATIC station, which has interfaces to the sub-networks
involved.
Routing allows an S7 station to be accessed online using a PG/PC across sub-
network limits and boundaries. For instance, to download user programs or a
hardware configuration or to test and run diagnostic functions.
You can connect a PG at any location in the network and to all stations, which can
be reached via network transitions, to establish an online connection.
An example is discussed in this particular FAQ where an online connection is
established from one PG via an S7 SIMATIC 300 station equipped with CPU 317F-
2 PN/DP to an SINAMICS G120 frequency inverter that is equipped with Control
Unit CU240S PN via PROFINET. This means that a transition (routing) is
established from the PROFIBUS interface to the Industrial Ethernet interface (refer
to Fig. 1-1).

The FAQ can also be used for CU240S PN-F of the SINAMICS G120 frequency
inverter and CU240D PN and CU240D PN-F of SINAMICS G120D frequency
inverter.

2 Prerequisites
2.1 Hardware prerequisites
In order implement error-free routing all of the modules/boards being used must be
capable of routing (in this case, the CPU 317F-2 PN/DP).
Please refer to HW Config to evaluate whether your CPU is capable of routing:
The field below the one used to select components contains information about
the components selected. It provides a brief description of their primary
function and thus helps you to make the correct selection (s. Fig. 2-1).

Figure 2-1 Check the routing capability of the module

You can also refer to the following FAQ „What are the requirements for using the
S7 routing function and which modules can you implement?“.to find out which
modules are actually capable of routing (the modules that have routing
functionality)

2.2 Software prerequisites

With the following software configurations the routing is possible too:
STEP 7 and DRIVE ES Basic
STEP 7 and DRIVE ES Simatic
STEP 7 and S7 Technology
STEP 7 and SIMOTION Scout

NOTE Only the latest up-to-date versions of the software packages are taken into
consideration.
Minimum prerequisites for the particular example: STEP 7 V5.4 SP2, Drive ES
Basic V5.4 SP1 and STARTER V4.1
For SINUMERIK 840D sl: Data set routing is only possible via the X150

3 Creating a Project with an S7 300 Station

In the first step you create a SIMATIC S7 project with an S7 300 station or open an
existing project with a SIMATIC S7-300 and a CPU with a PROFINET interface.

4 Editing Ethernet Node

In the next step, all Ethernet nodes must be processed, i.e. all Ethernet nodes
(CPU and CU240S PN) must be assigned valid IP addresses and PROFINET
device names.
To do this, you must connect your PG/PC, alternating, to the CPU and to the
frequency inverter (CU240S PN) via PROFINET interface and then execute the
steps described below.
You require a TCP/IP network adapter in order to be able to connect your PG/PC
to PROFINET.
You can skip this chapter if you have already assigned IP addresses and
PROFINET device names to the CPU and the Control Unit, or if your devices
already have these.

4.1 Connecting the PG/PC to the CPU

4.2 Setting the PG/PC Interface

In a next step, the PG/PC interface must be changed-over. To do this, in the
SIMATIC Manager menu, press on the button “Options -> Set PG/PC
Interface…”.
From the list, select your network adapter for the TCP/IP network and acknowledge
your selection with "OK".

Note
It is very important that in this case you select TCP/IP (Auto)!

Figure 8-7 NetPro after setting the station PG/PC

After setting the PG/PC station, the changed configuration must be saved and
compiled.

To do this you press the „Save and compile” button in the function bar of
NetPro and select “Compile and check everything” in the dialog that follows.

If the configuration was saved and compiled in NetPro without errors, the
configuration can be transferred to the CPU.

Select the SIMATIC 300(1) station and press the button „Download to
Module“ in the function bar.

9 Open the STARTER commissioning tool

After the configuration of the SIMATIC S7 station and the PG/PC station has been
completed, the STARTER commissioning tool can be opened.
Switch to the SIMATIC Manager and select the SINAMICS_G120 object in the
Details section via the right mouse button.
You can now open the object, hence the STARTER, via the context menu.

11 Parameterizing in STARTER
STARTER offers two possibilities of parameterizing - on one hand the parameter
settings using screen forms in the project tree - and on the other hand, to obtain a
fast overview, the expert list.
The complete parameter list is displayed online in the expert list as shown in the
following.
To open the expert list, select your drive and using the RIGHTHAND mouse key in
the tree that opens, select Expert > Expert list.

It goes without saying that parameter settings in screen forms can also be selected
in the project tree and adapted in-line with the requirements of the application. In
this case, simply click on the required branch in the tree (here, in the example
Inputs/Outputs). The appropriate screen form opens where you can make the
parameter settings.
