DEVELOP A JOB SPECIFICATION FOR A RESEARCH ASSISTANT WHO WORKS

IN MEDICAL INSTITUTION. (20Mks).


JOB DESCRIPTION
1. JOB TITLE
MEDICAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT.
2. JOB PURPOSE
i) To manage clinical researchers by generating and reconciling inquiries for the
investigation process.
ii) To render clinical support for the execution of projects in the accordance with the
standard operating procedures.
iii) To create, maintain and update trial management documents.
iv) Research assistant ensure that ethical procedures are strictly followed in the course of
executing clinical trials.
3. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
i) To create research plan budget that outlines the places, areas, time and the expenses that
are involved in carrying out the research.
ii) Research assistant identify relevant potential participants educate them on the research
procedures and the possible dangers to get them.
iii) To design tools and models for clinical trials in order to obtain valid results.
iv) Research assistant keep records of clinical researchers in files and computer systems and
also to take notes of successful procedures and to treat research programmes with
confidentiality.
v) To comply with procedures for the infection control in the medical institution to avoid
destroying research materials unknowingly.
vi) Prepare documents for the participants’ consent and ensure they are signed and delivered
to right channels for proper documentation. Also they should ensure all research files are
properly secured.
vii) Research assistant should enforce preventive maintenance techniques to preserve
specimens and tools.
viii) To supervise research activities and provide support to the team members by
sending them reminders of vital information and to facilitate communication between
members of the team so that to ensure there is uniformly in execution of procedures.
ix) Research assistant is responsible in evaluating research observations methods for
efficiency and thus make recommendations for improvement to ensure generalization of
results.
4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS.
i) A research assistant should have a degree in health related in medicine and also a medical
technician certificate can be used instead for qualifications.
ii) Experience working in clinical trials that has been attained through Bachelor of Science
degree program.
iii) High thinking capacity in order to identify most effective solutions to clinical issues.
iv) Should be goal oriented to work tirelessly towards achieving research goals despite the
challenges.
v) Must observe time in order to produce research results within a given time so as to ensure
there is enhancement in productivity.
vi) Should have good communication skills to maintain order in compiling research data for
testing and presentation.
5. WORKING CONDITIONS
i) A research assistant should have a well-equipped office with sufficient research tools for
example a computer and a stable internet.
ii) Should have standard protective kits to avoid contraction of various communicable
diseases in a medical environment.
iii) The working schedule should be from 8. Am to 4.00pm in the evening only on weekdays.
iv) Should be given the necessary travelling allowances when conducting the field research.
v) Should be entitled to an annual one month leave.
