One of the known issues in the Philippines is poverty. In fact, 16.6% of the
population lived below the national poverty line in 2018. Low economic growth and
elasticity in poverty reduction; corruption; inflation; and the uncontrollable high population
growth. One effect of this is the abundance of children in a family that is common in the
squatter areas or even those who live in the streets where poverty is present. Poverty
greatly affects their social and emotional development and it causes them to experience
instability, hunger and, etc. that greatly impacts a family that is incapable of sustaining
their needs which leads to different problems such as homelessness, and malnutrition
that can be seen from most children.
