STANDARD FORM OF CATEGORICAL PROPOSITION: SINGULAR

OBJECTIVES:

1. Students will be able to identify the parts of the proposition. 2. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO describe the
singularity of a proposition. 3. Students will be able to construct a singular form of a proposition. 4. Students will be
able to evaluate a proposition.

Good morning, Class! Good morning sir!
Please Lead the prayer, Ms Ramolo . Students leads the prayer
Today, we will have another topic to discuss, but before Yes sir!
that I will ask you some questions.

MOTIVATION:

You will have a random call for your students to ask some related questions for your new topic. This will guide them
to prepare for another lesson.

The first question will be given to Ms. Dela Cruz, “What
do you think is the meaning of quantity?”
“Very good. May I hear the voice of Mr. Dizon?, Do you
think our statements possess different quantity?”
“That’s great idea. Now how important to remember
these quantity in our proposition? Mr. Fernandez?
Thank you for your participation. Now today, we will be
talking about the Quantity, Quality and the symbol of
our proposition”
Now, quantity has something to do with “how much
and how many”. Our proposition has different quantity
to be considered. Under here we have 3 quantities.
These are Singular, Particular and Universal.
Students answer the question
For me, the quantity is the amount or number of a
material or immaterial thing not usually estimated by
spatial measurement.
Quantity is important in our proposition because on the
other hand, is a measure of the degree to which the
relationship between its subject and predicate terms
hold.
These are three parts to any proposition:
- The premises- Facts which are already known
or assumed.
- The argument- The logical chain of reasoning
that leads from the primises to the conclusion.
- The conclusion – That which must be true if the
premises are true and the argument is valid.

Proposition is a statement that can reduced by

replacement of its constituent terms to a proposition
expressing a logical truth. Just like in English, there are
parts of proposition. We have the Subject, Copula and
the predicate.

Ex. All P is Q.

Red color will be our Subject. Blue will be the Copula.

Yellow is the Predicate.

We also have to remember that everything before the

copula will be considered subject and everything after
the copula is the predicate.
 Copula also stands as connectors. We will have another
example here. Ex. All students are absent in the class.

Now to Identify the quantity of proposition, we have to - Poper names

look at the subject of the proposition. So, the Singular,
Particular and Universal will be found on the subject fo Ex: Kalilangan is my hometown.

Ex: This apple is so delicious.
Singular propositions are propositions about an - Superlative
individual to which some property is attributed. Under Ex: The highest mountain is Mount Everest located in

Proper names- any proper name of a person, place or - Collective noun
event. Ex. Anna is wearing uniform. BSU is one of Ex: A group of tribe is doing their tradition.

left is waiving at you. Those are the things you have
to buy.

 Superlative- highest degree (brightest, lowest) Ex. The

brightest star is my favourite star. The smallest tip
was mine.

 Collective noun- any group of people, animals or a

thing that is considered as one. Ex. A bunch of flowers
was given to the girl. A herd of buffalo was coming.

Generalization: We always have to remember the parts
of the proposition, the subject, copula and predicate
and those four things, proper names, demonstrative,
superlative, collective in order for us to consider that
our proposition is singular.
It is important for me to learn about proposition
because it is always used to indicate the relationship of
a noun or phrase to something else.

Application:

In a one half sheet of yellow paper, answer the following proposition.

Instruction:

Identify the following proposition according to their parts and four consideration for singularity. Underline once the
subject, encircle the copula and underline twice the predicate.

Ex.

This food is intended for my dogs only.

1. That person is not allowed to eat

2. Her friends are very nice to me.

3. Malaybalay city is a cool place.

4. A school of fishes is swimming in the sea.

Answer:

1. The cat is meowing at the roof.

2. Maria is taking care of her little sister

3. The most beautiful park is at Davao.

4. There are five piglets walking on the street.

5. Bukidnon State University is my school.

COLOR YELLOW- COPULA

COLOR GREEN- PREDICATE
