Lecture 2:

In this talk, we discussed the various applications of artificial intelligence, as

well as how it may help countless people in their lives. Here, we have practically
seen the details of how deep learning goes about solving many problems of human
society, such as COVID-19. This is the main reason as to why I chose to pursue AI
as the right path for myself. India is known by many to be the fastest growing tech
hub in the world, and it was also where I had grown fond of technology, and decided
to develop the necessary skills to help solve problems on a global scale. The way
deep learning helps solve problems is by discovering various layers of input by the
user. This technique operates on the foundation of neural networks, which is an
important part of deep learning.

In short, we learned that artificial intelligence represents a machine that

exhibits cognitive functions like human beings, such as learning. Deep learning is
a sub-topic of machine learning, which is a sub-topic of artificial intelligence.
Deep learning refers to the intelligence of a machine based on a collection of
large amounts of data. The data helps the machine learn a lot of features from
different layers. AI has many applications in a wide variety of areas, such as
speech, text, language, etc. Many IT giants, for example Google, Facebook,
Microsoft, Baidu, etc., have began taking AI to the next level. Further
applications of AI can be found in Google Translate, which makes use of Long Short-
Term Memory (LSTM). This marked a huge success in fields like text-analysis.

The lecture was quite advanced for first-semester bachelor students, however,
this is a very good thing as we get to dive in head-first. This can give students
great insight about the world of artificial intelligence. Overall, the talk was
very well suited for the target audience, because it was also very interesting as I
learned a lot about how deep learning can be very useful in solving many different
problems, and how it can help society as a whole progress further into the future
with the help of technology. I would like to hear more about sparse
representations, because I found this to be the most exciting part of the course,
but it was not so easy to understand at first glance, and the style of the
presentation made it easier for me to understand this topic, as well as other
parts, too.
