Violence on Television Affects Children Negatively 

Television now a days is one of the powerful tool to influence in developing value systems and shaping
behavior. Unfortunately, much of today’s television sport programs are full of violent content. Children
are more likely to imitate what they see. Children with emotional, behavioral, learning or impulse
control problems may be more easily influenced by TV violence. For these reason I agree with the
statement that showing violent sports on TV should be stopped as it desensitizes people especially the
children.

One of the major concerns is that watching violent sports increase the nature of aggression among the
youth and specially children. Studies also proved that there is a link between violent sports and negative
behavioral and attitude problems associated with children. Children who are watching violent sports on
daily basis are more tend to show aggressive behavior. Parents should look more closely at the types of
sports their children are watching.

Watching violent sports on television grow criminal mentality in children’s behavior. Children who watch
violent sports frequently than other children tend to grow violent acts in their behavior. Children who
watch violent sports such as wrestling, boxing tend to think fighting with their friend is a very good
activity.

Showing violent sports on TV on a regular basis decrease morality of a children. Children who watch
violent sports regularly are more likely to do rough behavior with their parents and siblings and these
acts may cause kids to become more aggressive or desensitized to violence. Most of the time behaviors
or the violence is seen as good guy and children are more likely to imitate what they see.

Because of all these discussion we can easily say that showing violent sports on TV should be stopped as
it is damaging children’s actions and behavior. However, considering some of the advantages of the
sports, their use must not be prohibited. Parents and guardians should do the following to reduce the
effect of violence. Parents should attempt to provide a variety of entertainment to their children. It
would be a good idea to make sure that children read quality books, involve themselves in sports and
interact with other children and their friends. Children should watch more educational sports and
involve in physical activity. Parents should make sure that their children are watching educational sports
program and involve in physical activity.
