IV. Rationale
Presidential Decree 491 in 1974 declared that Nutrition Month shall be held every July to create greater
awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos. The law mandates the National Nutrition
Council (NNC) to coordinate and lead the nationwide campaign.

The theme for this year’s Nutrition month is “Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo… push natin ‘to!”

The theme encourages everyone to advocate and realize the consumption of healthy diets, increased
physical activity, and reduced sedentary behavior. Pushing the advocacy means that each and every one
can contribute to better nutrition and physical activity for better health.

The annual campaign every July will serve as an avenue to help individuals make informed food choices
and be guided on how to integrate physical activity in daily life; jump-start or reinforce nutrition
advocacies and policies; and mobilize stakeholders to provide an enabling environment for healthy diet
and physical activity.

The National Nutrition Council conducted a theme and logo contest that ran from December 01, 2018 to
January 15, 2019. From over 200 theme and 59 logo entries, the NNC Secretariat shortlisted the best entries
and presented to the NNC Technical Committee. However, the committee did not find any of the entries to
be sufficient to encompass both nutrition and physical activity.

MCW Sec. 35. Protection of Girl-children, government agencies, LGUs and other concerned institutions
shall pursue measures to eliminate all forms of discrimination against girl-children in education, health
and nutrition, and skills development.

V. Objective
The campaign aims to catalyze actions to:
a. promote the consumption of healthy diets, increased physical activity, and reduced sedentary
behavior through activities of daily living among individuals and families;
b. encourage the food industry including farmers, manufacturers, distributors and food
establishments to produce and make available healthier food options; and
c. Advocate for the enactment of national and local legislation/policies and policies at the workplace,
school and other venues that are supportive of an enabling environment for healthy diets and
physical activity
