Cable sizing
In a short-circuit, the short-circuit currents driven by the generator flow through the unprotected cable
between the Multicluster Box and the PV main distributor. If the fuse of the generator is larger than the
fuse in the PV main distributor, you have to size the cable to match the generator fuse.
When planning the protection of cables in case of short-circuits, the PV inverter and Sunny Island
devices may be disregarded, as they have been constructed so as not to pose any danger to cables
in case of short circuits. Overload protection is always guaranteed if the cables connecting to the PV
plant are sized to take at least the feed-in power of the PV plant.
Procedure for connecting the PV plant
1. Insert the cables in the Multicluster Box (see section 5.2 ”Inserting the cables” (page 18)).
2. Connect PE to the grounding bar (see section 5.1.3 ”Grounding bar” (page 18)).
3. Carefully raise the covers of the connection
terminals "=MC-X3 PV-System".
The following connection procedure simplifies connecting the terminals and laying the cables.
Connection procedure
1. Insert the cables in the Multicluster Box (see section 5.2 ”Inserting the cables” (page 18)).
Use the enclosed adhesive web for labeling the cables.
2. Loosen the 4 screws on the cover of the Sunny Island connection area.
5. Connect Sunny Island of the Extension Cluster as described under point 4. Begin with Slave 2
of the Extension Cluster 1 and observe the labels on the terminals.
6. Fit the cover for the Sunny Island connection area.
7. Insert the 4 screws into the cover of the Sunny Island connection area and fasten them hand-
tight.
☑ The Sunny Island are connected.
• Always leave jumper between the connection terminals "=MC-X1" for connecting
the generator and "=MC-X2" for connecting the loads in the position preset by the
factory. Otherwise, the neutral conductor of the Multicluster System will not be
connected to PE when the generator contactor is open.
Neutral conductors within the Multicluster Box are not connected to PE when delivered. To ensure safe
operation of the Multicluster System, the following measures must be taken before commissioning:
• Ground the Multicluster system outside the Multicluster Box on either the generator side or the
load side, Connect the neutral conductor to PE.
All standards and directives applicable to the installation site must be observed.
5.4 Communication
The Multicluster Box transfers voltage and current measurement signals to the Sunny Island. These
signals are transferred via the control and measurement cables supplied. The Multicluster Box is
controlled by the Sunny Island master in the main cluster via a CAN bus.
2. Insert the control, measurement or communications cable through the cable entry in the
Multicluster Box.
Cable length
Plan for sufficient cable length from the enclosure entry point to the required connection
socket.
3. Connect the end of the communications cable to the "ComSyncIn" socket on the Sunny Island
master of the main cluster.
☑ The communications cable is connected.
4. Fit the sliding panels in the bottom of the Multicluster Box again and attach with screws. Make
sure that the seals are fitted correctly.
NOTICE!
Electrostatic discharge can cause irreparable damage to the Multicluster Box.
8 Maintenance
The Multicluster Box must be regularly maintained. Note that the maintenance interval is influenced
by the installation site and the ambient conditions. The Multicluster Box must be maintained more
frequently if it is installed in environments with severe dust pollution.
Maintenance work Recommended
