The FatherÊs Beloved Son

There are two instances in the Bible where it is
recorded that God the Father himself declares that
Jesus is His Beloved Son. These are at the baptism
of Jesus and at his transfiguration.
The first passage is about the first instance, namely,
Jesus’ baptism. During that event, the heavens
open and the voice of God the Father declares that
Jesus is his Son, whom he loves, and this is
witnessed by the Holy Spirit descending from
heaven bodily like a dove. (This is also an instance
where we see the Holy Trinity in the bible.)
Right after this comes the temptation of Jesus. He is
tempted with the 3 IFs. Look at the three ifs that he
is tempted with:
1. If you are the Son of God, turn these stones
into bread.
2. If you are the Son of God, jump from this
height and the angels will catch you.
3. If you will worship me, I will give you all
the kingdoms of the earth.
Notice how Satan omitted the word beloved. The
Father declared that Jesus is His Beloved Son but
he was tempted being called simply Son of God.
Satan did not want to remind Jesus that he indeed
is the Beloved Son of God.
The three temptations are a representation of the
three general temptations that people encounter:
1. The lust of the flesh (turning stone to bread)
2. The lust of the eyes (kingdoms seen)
3. The pride of life (putting God to the test)

Notice how the three temptations, the three IFs, the
three statements trying to incite doubt, how they
were easily overcome by Jesus also citing the Word
of God knowing full well that he is God’s beloved.

Likewise, when we face temptations, it would be
well to remember that we are beloved of God.
(John 3:16) Niccolo Macchiavelli, in his treatise on
getting and holding worldly power, said that it is
better to be feared than loved. However, Jesus
taught his disciples, and they also teach us, that it is
love that can counter fear and indeed perfect love
casts out fear (1 John 4:18).
The second passage is the second instance that God
the Father declared Jesus to be His Beloved Son.
This event is the transfiguration of Jesus. In this
event, the disciples saw Moses (representing the
Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets) talking
with Jesus (who is Grace incarnate).
Peter mistakenly made them equal, as shown by his
suggestion to make three tents for the three.
However, the other two had to pass on and
disappear leaving only Jesus.
Jesus was about to go to his crucifixion and it was
the Father’s declaration that he is the Beloved Son
that strengthened Jesus for his sacrificial death on
the cross.
Notice the disciples whom Jesus took with him up
the mountain. Peter is Cephas, which means stone.
[Remember that the Law was written in tablets of
stone.] James is Jacob, which means supplant or
replace. John is Yohanan, which means grace of
Yahweh. So the meaning of the three names: The
Law is replaced by the Grace of God.
On the mountain of Transfiguration, Jesus was
revealed in the Law and the Prophets as the Grace
of God who replaces the Law to save mankind.
And God declared his love for his Son at the
baptism in the Jordan (lowest place in Israel) and at
the mount of transfiguration (highest place in
Jerusalem) to show us that even in our lowest
depths and highest peaks, He loves us!

Ang Anak na Minamahal ng Ama

May dalawang pagkakataon sa Biblia na nailathala
na sinabi ng Diyos Ama na si Jesus ang kanyang
Minamahal na Anak. Ito ay sa baotismo ni Hesus at
sa kanyang Pagbabagong-anyo.
Ang unang pagkakataon ay ang baotismo ni Hesus.
Sa pagkakataong ito, bumukas ang langit at narinig
ang tinig ng Diyos Ama na nagsasabing si Hesus
ang kanyang minamahal na Anak habang ang
Banal na Espiritu ay bumaba sa katawan ng isang
kalapati. (Isa ito sa mga pagkakataon na makikita
sa biblia ang Banal na Trinidad.)
Pagkatapos na pagkatapos nito ay ang pagsubok
kay Hesus. Siya ay sinubok sa pamamagitan ng
tatlong mga “KUNG.” Tingnan natin ang tatlong
kung na ito:
1. Kung ikaw ay anak ng Diyos, gawin mong
tinapay ang batong ito.
2. Kung ikaw ay anak ng Diyos, tumalon ka
mula sa tuktok ng tore at sasaluhin ka ng
mga anghel.
3. Kung luluhod ka’t sasambahin ako,
mapapasaiyo lahat ng kaharian sa mundo.
Pansinin natin kung paano binaliwala ni Satanas
ang salitang minamahal. Sinabi ng Ama na si
Hesus ang kanyang minamahal na Anak ngunit
inalis ito at ginamit lamang ang mga katagang
Anak ng Diyos. Ayaw niyang ipaalala kay Hesus
na ito nga ay ang Minamahal na Anak ng Diyos.
Ang tatlong pagsubok kay Hesus ay katulad din ng
tatlong klase ng pagsubok na hinaharap ng mga
tao (mula sa 1 Juan 2:15-17):
1. Ang pagnanasa ng mata
2. Ang pagnanasa ng laman
3. Ang pagmamalaki sa buhay
[na sinulat ng disipulong minahal ni Hesus]
Pansinin natin kung paanong ang tatlong
pagsubok, ang tatlong KUNG, ang tatlong mga
katagang naglalayong mapangibabaw ang
pagdududa, ay napagtagumpayan ni Hesus dahil
batid niya na siya ay minamahal ng Ama.
Gayon din, kung hinaharap natin ang mga
pagsubok, ating alalahanin ang pag-ibig ng Diyos
sa atin (Juan 3:16). Sinabi ni Niccolo Macchiavelli sa
kanyang sinulat na aklat tungkol sa pagkuha at
pagpapanatili ng kapangyarihan na mas mainam
ang katakutan kaysa mahalin. Ngunit iba ang
itinuro ni Hesus sa kanyang mga disipulo (na siya
ring nagtuturo sa atin). Tinuro ni Hesus ang
magmahal, at sinabi na ang perpektong
pagmamahal ang magtataboy ng takot (1 Juan 4:18)
Ang ikalawang pagkakataon na sinabi ng Diyos na
si Hesus ang kanyang mahal na anak ay nasa
ikalawa nating binasa. Ito ang pagbabagong-anyo
ni Hesus. Dito ay nakita ng mga disipulo si Moises
(na siyang representasyon ng Batas) at Elias (na
siyang representasyon ng mga Propeta) kausap si
Hesus (na siyang katauhan ng Grasya).
Nagkamali si Pedro sa pag-aakalang sila ay mag-
kakapantay, gaya ng kanyang pahayag na gumawa
ng tatlong tolda. Ngunit ang dalawa ay kailangan
ng maglaho at si Hesus na lamang ang natira.
Ang susunod nang bahagi sa buhay ni Hesus ay
ang pagpapapako sa krus at binigyang lakas siya
ng pahayag ng Ama na si Hesus nga ay ang
minamahal na Anak.
Sino ba ang mga kasama ni Hesus sa bundok? Si
Pedro, na sa kanilang salita ay si Cephas, na
nangangahulugang bato (naaalala ba natin kung
paanong ang Batas ay nakaukit sa bato?). Si
Santiago, sa sa kanilang salita ay si Jacob, na ibig
sabihin ay pinapalitan. Si Juan, sa kanilang salita ay
si Yohanan, na ang ibig sabihin ay grasya ni
Yahweh. So ang tatlong pangalan kung
pagsasamahin: Ang Batas ay pinapalitan ng
grasya ni Yahweh.
Sa bundok ng pagbabagong anyo, ipinahayag mula
sa Batas at mga Propeta na si Hesus ang Grasya ng
Diyos na magliligtas sa sangkatauhan.
At ipinahayag ng Diyos ang pag-ibig niya sa Anak
sa baotismo sa Jordan (pinakamababa sa Israel) at
sa bundok ng pagbabagong anyo (pinakamataas)
upang ipakita sa atin na sa pinakamababang hirap
at pinakamataas na tagumpay, Mahal Niya tayo!
