Have you ever felt that whenever you are learning something, after that, you forget what

you learned? That happened a lot to me. Somewhat It can be frustrating to have to learn things all
over again. However, something that you may be surprised by, is that, actually forget to learn plays a
key part when it comes to learning strategies. Sometimes having a lot of information overwhelms
our memory and prevents us from maintaining focus on the important subjects. Also, there are
times that I have the sensation that remember things is very hard to do, and that is true and good
for our memory. Forget to learn is one learning strategy, by which, I can maintain focus from
irrelevant information stored in my memory and make my brain work hard when retrieving
important information from my memory.

Both, focusing on important subjects, avoiding irrelevant information and making my brain
work hard when it comes to retrieve relevant information are great ways to improve my memory.
Dr. Hermann Ebbinghaus, a German psychologist, states that, “Forgetting is a key element of the
learning process because it helps the brain sort important from trivial information; in this age of
information overload.” Sometimes I felt like having to remember all things was like remember
nothing. I remember when having too much in my mind was so overwhelming that I felt very tired
with no motivation at all. That was when I learned to keep focus on the relevant subjects. Another
experience that I had was that, whenever I learned something like reading books, I had the sensation
that I already learned effectively what I had to. Reality is that I let my brain believe that I already had
learned. When I do not force my brain to retrieve the things I learned, my brain is not working hard,
as a result, I am not learning effectively. That is why, it is important to keep focus on the important
things, maintain them in our brain and then retrieving them by having our brain working hard
actively.

As you can see, a strong combination of focusing on the important information and
forgetting irrelevant subjects, and making our brain work hard by retrieving that important
information, is a key path by which I can learn many things. Our brain sometimes wants us to take it
easy, but doing the opposite will bring change to our mind. I believe these activities will help me
improve and train my memory as I keep practicing and combining them.
