Introduction

Temperate forests are located in the temperate zone with a geographical area of 25% of

the whole world forests cover. This type of forests experiences winter, spring, autumn and

summer hence adaptive to the environment. An example of a temperate forest is the temperate

rainforest of the Pacific Coasts of North America. However, with time this forests have

experienced problems such as frequent wild fires, droughts that are hotter and constant,

pathological and insect outbreak. Other challenges are the overexploitation of this forests for

timber, settlements and agricultural use.

Countries experiencing mega forest fires should invest in fire detection and suppression

organizations. This could reduce the destruction of temperate forests by a larger percentage

especially in Canada, Australia and US. (Adams, 2013: Williams, 2013).high risk fire areas

should be identified for easy management.

There should be a restoration effort to help in ensuring that endangered forests are

recovered, rehabilitate forests, and mitigation. This will help revive the temperate forests

tampered with. Temperate forest restoration should be expanded through the protection of

degrade land and allowing natural re-growth.

There should be efforts to reduced CO2 emission from deforestation of temperate forests

for settlement, agriculture and timber. International policies like the Copenhagen negotiations in

2009 would help reduce deforestation by strategizing on how to reduce carbon emission

Pests and pathogen disturbances affects temperate forest ecosystems. There should be a

biological insect and pathological control through the change in forest management. This

management include; rotation of forests without thinning and clear cutting regimes. The concept
of natural enemy hypothesis is likely to help by providing additional resources that can attract

natural enemies to the pests and pathogens in the temperate forests.

Temperate forests experiences droughts and hotter conditions, this can be dealt with

through coordination and collaboration. This is a continuous monitor to drought severity and

indicators. This is done through the checking of ecological characteristics of the forests that can

lead to a nature balance (Alaska Climate Research center, 2019)

Conclusively, temperate forests will continue to thrive because of the improved

productivity in agriculture, imports on timber, the management practices have been improved

and also the efforts on forests conservation measures.
