Badminton Skills

Description of the Lesson:

In this lesson, you will know and learn the different Badminton Skills.

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
a. .Explain the different skills in Badminton
b. Demonstrate how to serve
c. Appreciate the experience and learnings of knowing the badminton skills

Instruction: Make your own badminton court. ( 20 points)
Step 1.Look for the following materials , masking tape, tape measure ,2 long stick, yarn, .Make your
own .
Step 2. Look for near space are wherein you build your own badminton court.
During this day of activity I will post the example of my own badminton court in our group chat.

Basic Badminton Skills
Badminton is one of the most followed and fast sport which command utmost fitness. At the same time ,
badminton is a friendly sport which anyone can start without much delaying.

1. Service – the most basic skill that you need to overseer in Badminton. Also, you should secure to
make a legal service or else it might deal to penalty points. There are 2 types of service in
badminton , based on the landing aim of the shuttle. First is the ‘high serve’ aims at the back end
corner of the opponent’s court. Unlike high serve, the ‘lower serve’ aims to the front of the court.

2. Grip – the right in possessions, the racket is truly important to attain to control on shots while
keeping away from the chances of a wrist injury. A formal grip will guide you to play either
backhand and forehand.

3. Stance- it is how you stand during playing badminton, both in between a rally and before the
serve.
 Attacking Stance – it is used to get position before playing an overhead forehand stroke. To
stand Stance in the attacking stance rotate your body looking the sidelines with racket leg
behind and both legs shoulder-width apart.
 Defensive Stance – to protect the opponent’s smash , you need to be allert with the
defensive stance. Face the body to the net and put your racket in front at waist height,
slightly pointing forward.
 Net Stance – This stance is to be ready for the opponents return after playing a net shot. To
play this shot , place your foot on the racket side forward while keeping non-racket in front
of the body, a bit above waist height while raising .

4. Footwork- badminton is played on a court with restricted area, and the athletes have to take care
of the same while playing .Guidelines for proper footwork:
 Always think of the base ( starting point)
 Move only 2-3 steps backwards
 Shuffle only 1 steps side wards.
 Move only 2-3 steps front.

5. Smash- is the most strong stroke in badminton which naturally become out to be most familiar
term to all.
 Forehand Smash – it is the forehand is an overhead smash which is near to the action of
tossing a ball.
 Backhand Smash – this is one of the solid strokes in badminton.
 Jumping Smash – a forehand smash with a timed jump plus to it counts under jumping
smash.

6. Drop Shot – are fragile badminton shots that can lead you points that aims at scoring points in
deception. Played with both backhand and fore hand these are used to move the opponents to the
front court.

7. Clear or Lob – it can be assumed as a shot with an inverted ‘U’ trajectory . It is normally played from
the forecourt with an goal to lift or ‘lob’ the shuttle over the opponent. The goal is to land it as near to
the baseline as it is at an angle that is impossible to clear.

Instruction: Step 1: Look for your any family member who will help you doing this activity.
Step 2: Using the badminton court you made, You will be having ten (10) chances doing
service. The goal of this activity is to hit the shuttlecock with your racket to passes over the net. It should
be ‘IN’ to make it score kindly record your data by putting a remark check on the space provided. Write
your answer on the answer sheet provided. (10 points)
