GRAMMAR POINTS
A. ADJECTIVE ORDERS : (Thứ tự các tính từ)
When there is two or more than two adjectives standing in front of noun, those adjectives are arranged in orders according to
this order that YOU MUST LEARN BY HEART. (Khi có hai hay nhiều hơn hai tính từ đứng trước danh từ, những tính từ này
được sắp xếp theo một thứ tự nhất định mà BẠN PHẢI HỌC THUỘC)
1. Cardinal number (số đếm) : one, two, ten, twenty,… 5. Shape (hình dáng) : round, oval, square, rectangle,…
2. Opinion (ý kiến) : lovely, nice, great, awful, wonderful 6. Color (màu sắc) : red, brown, blue, green, black,…
3. Size (kích cỡ) : big, small, long, short, tall, fat, large,… 7. Origin (xuất xứ) : American, Chinese, Japanese,…
4. Age (tuổi tác) : new, old, young, elderly,… 8. Material (chất liệu) : stone, plastic, leather, paper,…
Note : sau các động từ be, become, get, seem, look, feel,… là các tính từ và động từ nguyên mẫu
B. PHRASE OF RESULT with ENOUGH : (Cụm từ với ENOUGH)
ENOUGH (đủ … để có thể) : được dùng sau
tính từ và trạng từ và dùng trước danh từ
adj / adv + enough + to-infinitive
E.g. : Nam is tall. He can reach the top shelf. He didn’t jump high. He didn’t win the prize.
Nam is tall enough to reach the top shelf. He didn’t jump high enough to win the prize.
(Nam đủ cao để với được cái chóp kệ sách) (Anh ta nhảy không đủ cao để đoạt giải)
Note : Khi chủ ngữ trong 2 câu khác nhau thì chủ ngữ trong câu thứ hai chuyển sang for + object.
E.g. : Tim spoke slowly. We could understand.
Tim spoke slowly enough for us to understand. (Tim nói chậm đủ để chúng tôi hiểu được)
enough + noun + to-infinitive
E.g. : I didn’t have enough money to buy that car. Are there enough potatoes to make soup ?
(Tôi không có đủ tiền để mua chiếc xe đó) (Có đủ khoai để nấu xúp không ?)
EXERCISES
I. Arrange these adjectives in brackets in the correct order :
1. It’s a (wooden / round / brown) table.
2. She is wearing a (green / new / beautiful) dress.
3. What a (lovely / sunny) day !
4. Jack is wearing a (green / new) pullover.
5. My uncle lives in a (old / lovely / small) house.
6. That girl has (blue / nice / big) eyes.
7. He gave me (leather / black) gloves.
8. My teacher has a (round / pink / small) face.
9. It is a (small / metal / black) box.
10. It is a (fat / black / yellow / big) cat.
11. Jimmy has a collection of (postage / valuable / American) stamps.
12. There is a (French / interesting / old) painting in the gallery.
II. Use ENOUGH to combine each pairs of these following sentences :
1. My sister is old. She can drive a car.
2. The coat isn’t warm. I don’t wear it in winter.
3. The weather is fine. We can go camping.
4. Those apples aren’t ripe. We can’t eat them.
5. It’s near our house. We can walk there.
6. We aren’t tall. We can’t see the summit.
7. The ice is quite thick. He can walk on it.
8. The fir isn’t very hot. It won’t boil the kettle.
9. It’s not very dark at the moment. We can see the star clearly.
10. The ladder isn’t very long. I didn’t reach the window.
11. Mr. Robinson isn’t a rich business. He can’t afford to buy a villa.
13. The radio isn’t small. You can’t put it in your pocket.
14. She is beautiful and intelligent. She can become Miss World.
15. The worker is clever. He can make fine things from wood.
