06.01 General
06.01.01 This Technical Specification (TS) shall be read along with the General Technical
Specifications (GTS). However, a brief description is given hereunder.
06.01.02 List of Units & types of steel structures shall be as described in the General Layout
drawings and technical specifications of this package.
06.01.03 The general specifications for structural works furnished herein are intended as
guidelines for execution of the works satisfying the NMDC’s requirements as also
complying with all technical norms in totality. This specification is to cover the
design, engineering, preparation of design drawings, fabrication drawings,
procurement of raw steel, fabrication & supply, erection , painting, procurement and
supply of sheeting, finishing and handing over of all steel structural work on a
turnkey basis for the Project / Works including all incidental items not shown or
specified but reasonably implied or necessary for the completion and proper
functioning of the plant, all in strict accordance with the specifications, including
revisions and amendments thereto as may be required during the execution of the
work.
06.01.04 Description of various items of work under this specification and nature of work in
detail are given hereinafter. The complete work under this scope is referred to as
STRUCTURAL WORKS. The detailed scope of works covered under Structural works
is given in Clause 06.02 & GTS for structural works.
06.01.05 The work to be performed under this specification consists of design, engineering ,
supply of raw materials, fabrication, erection, painting and cladding, including supply
of paints and sheeting as well as providing all labour, materials, consumables,
equipment, temporary works, temporary labour and staff colony, constructional
plant, fuel supply, transportation and all incidental items not shown or specified but
reasonably implied or necessary for the completion and proper functioning of the
plant, all in strict accordance with the specifications, including revisions and
amendments thereto as may be required during the execution of the work. The
bidder shall consider long span conveyor galleries over railway tracks in the scope of
works.
06.01.06 Supply of all materials including structural steel, supply of roof cladding & side-
cladding ( Colour Coated sheets), insulated panels for cladding as applicable, Poly
carbonate sheets, wind driven roof air ventilators, fasteners, paints, consumables
like gas, electrodes etc. and all other materials as deemed necessary for proper
completion of the work, are included in the scope of the Bidder.
06.01.07 Fabrication activity shall preferably be carried out outside the plant premises, unless
allowed otherwise by the NMDC. For this purpose, specific approval shall be
obtained by the Bidder after indicating their requirements. However, the Bidder has
06.01.08 The cladding for all structures shall be of Colour coated Sheets (of approved make &
approved colour) unless otherwise specified. Translucency requirement of the
building / unit shall be made of Polycarbonate sheets.
06.01.09 The work shall be carried out according to the design/drawings to be developed by
the Bidder and approved by NMDC/MECON. For all buildings and structures,
necessary layout and details are to be developed by the Bidder keeping in view the
statutory & functional requirements of the plant and facilities and providing enough
space and access for operation, use and maintenance. Certain minimum
requirements are indicated in this specification for guidance purpose only. However,
the Bidder’s offer shall cover the complete requirements as per the best prevailing
practices and to the complete satisfaction of NMDC.
06.01.10 Bidder shall inspect the site, examine and obtain all information required and satisfy
himself regarding matters and things such as access to site, communications,
transport, right of way, the type and number of equipment and facilities required for
the work, availability of local labour, materials and their rates, local working
conditions, weather, tidal / flood levels, subsoil conditions, natural drainage, etc.
Ignorance of the site conditions shall not be accepted by the NMDC as basis for any
claim for compensation or extension of time. The submission of a bid by the Bidder
will be construed as evidence that such an examination was made and any later
claims / disputes in regard to price quoted shall not be entertained or considered by
NMDC on account of ignorance of prevailing site conditions.
06.01.11 Bidder shall comply with all the applicable statutory rules pertaining to Factory act,
Fire safety rule of Loss prevention association, Water act for Pollution control,
Explosives act etc. Provisions of Safety, health and welfare according to Factories act
shall also be complied with. Statutory clearances and norms of State Pollution
Control Board shall be followed. Statutory body /Act requirements shall be fulfilled
by the Bidder and in case any modifications /additions to the building /Structures are
to be made as per the above, shall be carried out by the Bidder at no extra cost to
the NMDC.
06.01.12 The Bidder shall indicate the estimated quantities of structural items of work i.e.
fabrication/ erection tonnage, sheeting etc. Bidder shall not make any additional
claim if structural quantity of any item required for completion of the entire
package, as per terms of contract, exceeds the quantity indicated by the Bidder;
unless there is effective change in scope.
06.01.13 Basis of Payment to the Bidder shall be as per relevant clauses of GTS.
06.01.14 All the clauses of the General Technical Specification (GTS) are binding for the Bidder
unless any of them is explicitly superseded by this Technical Specification (TS). In
The scope of work is generally described in GTS, however a brief scope is given as
under:
06.02.01 The Bidder shall prepare a programme showing the schedule of preparation and
submission of design drawings, fabrication drawings procurement of raw steel,
supply of fabricated steel structures, inspection, erection alignment, painting and
cladding for each area / unit. The erection dates shall be the dates for completion of
all the follow-up work in addition to main erection keeping overall completion of
project in view. The programme shall include quantum of different activities of work
planned month wise to complete the work.
The designs and drawings of Conveyor galleries over railway track shall be prepared
by the bidder and same shall be submitted to Railways for their approval. The
drawings shall be prepared in tracing sheet and submitted to Railways for approval.
It is the responsibility of the bidder to obtain necessary approval from the Railways
to carry out the job.
The bidder shall also prepare an erection schemes of 60m and above span Conveyor
Galleries above the railway tracks having overhead electrification (OHE) facilities
with suitable crane and other lifting technique. The above work shall be carried out
with close coordination of railway department within shutdown period. The bidder
shall plan accordingly.
06.02.02 Collection of all site related data & conducting site investigations.
06.02.03 Design, preparation of all design drawings, fabrication drawings, obtaining MECON’s
approval on general arrangements and design of structures. All the design drawings
shall be submitted along with the design calculations and STAAD file. Structural steel
fabrication drawings shall be prepared by the Bidder and submitted to MECON for
review.
06.02.04 Resonance in conveyor gallery structures: The conveyor galleries span above 24m
shall be checked and designed so as to obviate occurrence of resonance due to the
vibration on equipments. Dynamic analysis of the same shall be done. The ratio of
applied frequency to natural frequency shall not lie within the range 0.7 to 1.5.
06.02.05 Submission of all approved drawings in soft copy in 2 sets, after scanning the
drawings bearing the approved stamp of MECON.
06.02.06 One span of the existing conveyor gallery 102 of deposit 5 to be replaced with new
gallery at tapping location to accommodate the envisaged fixed tripper. The bidder
shall submit the detailed drawing of the new gallery along with design calculation for
06.02.07 Dismantling, retrieval, sorting and storing of any existing structures as directed by
NMDC/MECON, if any.
06.02.08 Supply of all materials viz, raw steel, paints, sheeting material for roof and side
cladding (Colour coated sheets) , poly carbonate sheets, along with sheeting fixtures,
and paints. Polycarbonate sheets (3mm thickness) shall be provided on roof and
sides for natural lightings. A suitable safety net shall be provided below the
Polycarbonate sheets on roofs. (Raw steel plates & sections shall be procured from
as per GTS and shall be of tested quality).Paints, electrodes, electro-forged gratings,
cladding materials etc shall be procured from approved makes only. Supply of wind
driven roof air ventilators as per the technological requirements.
06.02.10 Supply of consumables like electrodes for welding, gases for gas cutting etc
06.02.11 Supply of plant & machinery, tools, tackles, instruments for fabrication and erection
06.02.16 Making arrangements for all services like approach to site, electricity, water etc
06.02.19 Application of paints at shop after fabrication and at site after erection
06.02.21 Conduct NDT as per standard procedure and also conducting additional NDT if
desired by NMDC/MECON.
06.02.25 Submit Eleven (11) prints each and two soft copies in CD of all design and detailed /
working drawings.
06.02.26 On completion of each unit, the Bidder shall submit three (3) sets of soft copies on
CD and two (2) plastic films along with six (6) prints of “As-built” drawings in respect
of all those drawings prepared in respect of all the units engineered by them and
incorporating all the modifications authorized by NMDC/MECON during the
execution of the work. “As-built” drawings shall be submitted in stages after
completion of individual units.
06.02.27 Supply of all loading data for RCC foundation, layout drawing, Anchor bolt / insert
details and all other necessary information for requirement of Foundation/ RCC
work, where future expansion is envisaged, the successful Bidder shall furnish load
data separately for present and future construction.
06.02.29 Any other work deemed incidental for the completion of the overall work but not
included in the above detailed scope.
The following gives only general description of steel structural work involved in
different units. The structural work will not be limited to these but will be guided by
technical / technological aspects for the total scope of work.
Consists of 06 Numbers of RCC silos / structural steel silos to be decided as per the
design and technical requirements. Each silo / bunker shall have a capacity of around
1050 t. Steel structural shed shall be provided on top. Handling facilities etc are to be
provided in the shed. Structural staircase and other facilities to be provided. The
silos shall be lined as per technological requirements
The building shall be of steel construction with columns, trusses/ Rafters, beams,
bracings, floors, stairs, handrails etc. will be provided in the building. The classifier
plant will accommodate vet vibrating screen, belt conveyor for carrying oversize of
screen, spiral classifier, dewatering screen, belt conveyor for sand of spiral classifier,
belt weigh scale, EOT crane for spiral classifier and structural sump & pump at
ground floor etc. Roof and side of the building will be covered by sheeting.
Polycarbonate sheets shall be provided on roof and sides for natural lightings. A
suitable safety net shall be provided below the Polycarbonate sheets on roofs. The
relevant technological GA drawings are to be referred for further details.
Grinding building shall be of RCC / steel construction with columns, trusses, beams,
bracings, floors, stairs, handrails etc. At one bay of building, two numbers of
structural hoppers of 375 t each has been envisaged. The building will accommodate
belt feeder, primary & secondary grinding ball mill, EOT cranes, hydrocyclones,
spirals concentrator, HGMS/WHIMS, Low intensity magnetic separator, linear
screen, structural sumps and related equipment. The relevant technological GA
drawings are to be referred for further details.
06.04.04 Thickeners
All three thickeners shall be of RCC construction but stairs, handrails, etc are to be
considered. The relevant technological GA drawings are to be referred for further
details.
The structural work will cover pipe & cable supporting trestles, towers, bridges,
maintenance platforms, stairs, handrails, access ladders etc with in the design limit
of Processing plant scope. The overhead open launders to thickeners, junction points
for discharge the same material to thickeners along with both side walkways,
supporting trestles, stairs, handrails, access ladders etc shall also be in the design
limit of ore processing plant.
There shall be number of conveyor galleries and junction houses. The arrangement
shall be as per relevant technological GA drawings. Design shall be as described in
GTS. Roof and side of the galleries shall be covered by sheeting. Polycarbonate
sheets shall be provided on alternate panels of both sides for natural lightings.
06.04.07 Underground hopper and associated facilities near TD1 for loading of dry slimes.
06.04.08 Structural shed of 12hours capacity for accumulation of slime during continues rain.
The structural work shall cover the steel construction with columns, trusses/ Rafters,
beams, bracings, floors, stairs, handrails etc. will be provided in the building. Roof
and side of the building will be covered by sheeting.
The various other units comprise, compressed air station with covering having
insulated panel sheeting and a crane/ monorail, electrical control rooms, pump
houses, over head water tank, repair shops, storage facilities, platforms and
approach stairs for various equipment and facilities , bunkers/ hoppers, crane
maintenance platforms, lighting walkways, gutters, down comers etc.

the works are subject to approval by the NMDC/MECON.

All steel structures shall be painted as per relevant procedure mentioned in GTS.

Shop area shall be cleared of plant & machinery. Working area around the building
to be dismantled shall be barricaded. Work shall be stopped during rain, storms or
high winds. Care shall be taken while working near un-insulated electric wire.
All practicable precautions shall be taken by use of temporary guys, stays, ties,
bracings, supports to prevent collapse of any part of the building.
All service lines are to be blanked and isolated before starting of dismantling work.
