Relevance of the document to the contemporary times.

In this slide, we will tackle about some of the

importance or why we should read the Filipino Grievances Against the Governor Wood.

• First, it shows the real happenings and events during those times. Some of us tend to forget or
some of us doesn’t care about our past. In this document, it shows the first two decades of
American rule are covered in the American period. Like, the Filipino-American War, McKinley’s
benevolent assimilation policy, the political, economic and social transformations that happened
during the Taft era and the gradual inclusion of Filipino politicians in the colonial bureaucracy
during Harrison’s time. It exposes the other side of the Harrison administration.

• Second, it shows the solidarity between Filipinos. Like how Filipinos have a unity to fought with
top ranking American colonial officials like Gov. Wood. Filipinos did not hesitate to express their
displeasure against him despite of his military and despotic tendencies.

• Third, it shows the constant desire for liberty of Filipinos. We Filipinos are thirst for freedom. We
will not simply give up until we achieve our goal to have a freedom.

• Fourth, it reminds us on how to be independent and stand on our own feet. Like how younger
Filipino politicians used the American political system as a platform to fight for our
independence.

• Fifth, it shows how to fight back for what is right. Like Filipinos fought Wood because of his
implemented policies and controls that made it difficult for wasteful politicians to make
extravagant expenditures. Some were simply using dirty tactics to divert Filipinos' attention
away from their corrupt activities.

• Last is, it shows us that we have to learn how to be more aware of our surroundings. Like, we
should not let other people fool us. Don’t let us be deafeningly unaware of what is going on
around us. It reminds us not let ourselves carried away by flowery words.
