A Fill Materials

Gravel, sand and/or marl materials-maximum size shall be 75mm.

A1 Note:If ½ of lift thickness is less than 75mm, the maximum sieve size

allowed shall be equal to ½ of lift thickness.

Delivered fill materials shall be free of frozen lumps, organic material, SAES-A-114

trash, chunks of highly platic clay or other unsatisfactory materials. Sec. 6.1.1.2

Fill Material' shall be used for all fills except where 'Select Fill Material' is
specified. As a minimum, 'Select Fill Material' shall be used within 0.6 m
(2 ft) of the bottom elevation of foundations, spread footings, or slabs-on- SAES-A-114

grade when fill is required to achieve final grade. 'Select Fill Material' Sec. 6.3.1
shall also be specified for backfill which will be in contact with concrete
or steel structures.

B Select Fill Materials

Maximum size of sand and gravel materials being received shall be SAES-A-114
B1
50mm diameter particles. Sec. 6.1

Select fill are composed only of inorganic materials and are free of SAES-A-114
B2
frozen lumps, trash, or other unsatisfactory materials. Sec. 6.1

C Marl Cap Materials

Maximum size of marl materials being received shall be 75mm, and shall
have between 11-35% passing the No. 200 sieve. The capping material SAES-A-114
C1
shall have a maximum liquid limit of 35 and maximum plasticity index of Sec. 6.1.2
12, per D4318.
