Mainframes are data servers designed to process up to 1 trillion web transactions daily with
the highest levels of security and reliability. At their core, mainframes are high-
performance computers with large amounts of memory and processors that process billions
of simple calculations and transactions in real time. The mainframe is critical to
commercial databases, transaction servers, and applications that require high resiliency,
security, and agility.
JCL and Rexx are two commonly used languages to operate Mainframe computers.
Job Control Language (JCL) is the command language of Multiple Virtual Storage (MVS),
which is the commonly used Operating System in the IBM Mainframe computers. JCL
identifies the program to be executed, the inputs that are required and location of the
input/output and informs the Operating System through Job control Statements. In
mainframe environment, programs can be executed in batch and online modes. JCL is used
for submitting a program for execution in batch mode.
The Sterling Pierbridge Adaptor supports the carrier services for Federal Express (FedEx).
FedEx, is the major client of IBM and IBM handles all its services under three categories,
EXPRESS, FREIGHT and GROUND. Being an intern in IBM, I'll be responsible to handle
its mainframe front dealing in EXPRESS and FREIGHT.
