TRAINING/ ACTIVITY PROPOSAL DESIGN

I. Activity Title: SLAC SESSION ON CLASSROOM OBSERVATION

(Demonstration Teaching of Teachers)

II. Background:

For making teaching and learning more visible, classroom observation

plays a central role. It provides teachers with constructive critical feedback in
order to improve their classroom management and instructional techniques. For
teachers it is important to observe the interaction between teacher-learner within
the classroom because it can determine the learning opportunities that students
get.
The New Results- Based Performance Management System (RPMS) of
teachers requires the classroom observation of teacher in a form of 3 options:
online observation, video of demonstration teaching and face to face demo
teaching. Each teacher must have 2 demo teaching for the month of January to
March and the second wave is April to June. The Department believes that
teachers still need to improve and develop their teaching abilities and strategies
despite of the crisis. In view with this, Basud Elementary School Teachers will be
conducting the SLAC Session on Classroom Observation (Demonstration
Teaching of Teachers).

III. Objectives:

A. Terminal Objectives:
1. To conduct observation among teachers in a form of demonstration teaching
2. Equip and be updated of the new techniques in teaching in this new normal

B. Enabling Objectives:

TRAINING NEEDS ANALYSIS

Planning for continuous professional growth of teachers is essential. The establishment of

teacher Professional Learning Communities is legalized and standardized through the
Department of Education Order No. 35, s. 2016 entitled “The Learning Action Cell as a K to 12
Basic Education Program School-Based Continuing Professional Development Strategy for the
Improvement of Teaching and Learning”. Under this order, the Department emphasizes its
support to the continuing professional development activities through the school-based Learning
Action Cell (LAC) to help teachers improve their teaching and learning practices (Department of
Education, 2016).”

The Learning Action Cells (LACs) is DepEd’s primary mechanism for the professional
development of teachers. It is defined as “group of teachers who engage in collaborative
learning sessions to solve shared challenges encountered in the school facilitated by the school
head or a designated LAC Leader” (DepEd Order 26 s. 2016). Essentially, LACs are purposeful,
school-based, and cost efficient professional development activities which aim to continuously
improve teacher’s pedagogical skills, instructional strategies, and assessment practices, which
in turn, will result in student’s improved academic achievement.”

The demand for teaching and learning has changed for the School Year 2020-2021 as a result
of the impact Covid-19. Education institutions shifted focus to delivering education remotely
through various distance learning delivery modalities (DLDMs). As the learning delivery change,
so do the duties of teachers to their learners and the performance expected of them. The
expectations of teachers must be captured in their performance assessment through a more
contextualized Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS).

Hence, Basud Elementary School will conduct its SLAC Session on Demonstration Teaching to
undergo the Phase II of RPMS Cycle which is mentoring and coaching in response to the new
RPMS School Year 2020-2021 in the time of Covid-19.

Below is the table that shows the development needs of teachers aligned to the revised RPMS
Tool which need to be observed during the SLAC Session on Demonstration Teaching.
