The Learning Action Cells (LACs) is DepEd’s primary mechanism for the professional
development of teachers. It is defined as “group of teachers who engage in collaborative
learning sessions to solve shared challenges encountered in the school facilitated by the school
head or a designated LAC Leader” (DepEd Order 26 s. 2016). Essentially, LACs are purposeful,
school-based, and cost efficient professional development activities which aim to continuously
improve teacher’s pedagogical skills, instructional strategies, and assessment practices, which
in turn, will result in student’s improved academic achievement.”
The demand for teaching and learning has changed for the School Year 2020-2021 as a result
of the impact Covid-19. Education institutions shifted focus to delivering education remotely
through various distance learning delivery modalities (DLDMs). As the learning delivery change,
so do the duties of teachers to their learners and the performance expected of them. The
expectations of teachers must be captured in their performance assessment through a more
contextualized Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS).
Hence, Basud Elementary School will conduct its SLAC Session on Demonstration Teaching to
undergo the Phase II of RPMS Cycle which is mentoring and coaching in response to the new
RPMS School Year 2020-2021 in the time of Covid-19.
Below is the table that shows the development needs of teachers aligned to the revised RPMS
Tool which need to be observed during the SLAC Session on Demonstration Teaching.
Considering these data, it is imperative for the school to conduct the LAC Session on
Demonstration Teaching. Teachers who were guided with their needs for professional growth
and development could contribute for the improvement of learners’ academic performance.
