QUESTIONS:
1. Define the seven (7) attributes of tasks within a WBS. (21pts)
2. In project management, specifically in WBS, what does dependency mean? What does predecessor mean? What does
successor mean? (9pts)
ANSWERS:
1.
Work to Be Accomplished - A name and detailed description should be given to the project manager. The
task to be done covers both activities and results. If you forget crucial components of the scope, take into
account project deliverables rather than process activities.
Assignees - The project planner should define the capabilities or persons, generally referred to as resources,
needed for the work. Responsible team members need the time they need to finish their tasks with the relevant
know-how.
Start and End Dates - Add the start and ending dates for each activity, and estimate how much time you
have available on your calendar to complete it.
Amount of Effort - Each task will have a fee connected with it. You should make a note of that in order to
keep track of your spending.
Estimated capital expenses - Is frequently utilized by a corporation to launch new projects or make new
expenditures. Capital expenditures on fixed assets can include replacing a roof, purchasing a piece of
equipment, or constructing a new factory.
Estimated noncapital expenses - Have a cheaper cost and a shorter useful life. Machinery components are
an example of a lower-cost item that would be categorized as a non-capital expenditure. Regular maintenance
of revenue-generating gear is also considered a non-capital expense.
Task dependencies - Some tasks on the way to the final product will have to wait until another activity is
completed or begun before they can begin. This is known as task dependency, and it necessitates connecting
the two dependent activities in order to avoid slippage later in the project.
Predecessor - Is an activity that comes before another not chronologically, but in terms of their
interdependence. There may be numerous direct successor activities to a previous activity. A network diagram
connects predecessors and successors using arrows.
Successor - Is an activity that comes after another not in a chronological sense, but in terms of their
interdependence. A successor activity can have multiple direct predecessors.
