Introduction

We are living in an era where all the work is being connected to the internet together with the power of IOT for more
ef cient system of working and to execute tasks quickly! The Internet of Things (IoT) shall be able to incorporate
transparently and seamlessly a large number of different systems, while providing data on hundreds of parameters for
Data Scientists to use and capitalize. One of the main problem in our surrounding has been solid waste management
which impacts the health and environment of our society. The detection, collection and management of wastes is one of
the major issue of the present day The traditional way of manually monitoring the skips is a cumbersome process and
need a lot of human effort, time and funds which can easily be reduces with the present day technologies. In our solution,
the waste management is automated. This is our IoT Garbage Skip Monitoring and Management system, a way that can
help to keep the cities clean and Hygienic. In this proposed System we are planning to monitor the Skips all around our
cities and compile that data on a serer with real time status of the skips whether they are empty or full and how much
lled. we observed that the garbage truck use to go around the town to emptying skips once a week. Although this
system was working perfectly ne it was very inef cient. For example a street A is a busy street and we see that the
garbage lls up really fast whereas street B even after two weeks the skip isn't even half full. We also observed that in
some area the skips were over owing with garbage but the garbage truck did not show up to collect it causing the
garbage to be spilled onto the streets. By putting our system into place the garbage truck driver will know which skip he
has to empty ad where to go at what time. Thus, reducing the labor, the fuel consumption and time delays in emptying
over owing skips.

Abstract
Proper waste management is one of the major problems for densely populated urban areas. It is getting difficult day by
day to lead a healthy, sustainable living in urban areas because of environmental contamination. Due to the lack of
proper waste management approach, problems like an overflow of waste from the community garbage skips occurs that
badly harm our environment. Polluted surroundings result in breeding grounds for mosquitoes and various insects which
lead to spread of various kinds of diseases in an epidemic form. For developed and developing countries, waste
management is a challenge to long-term development. In this modern era of technology, we need to apply technology-
based solutions to handle large amounts of waste for overpopulated urban areas. We have reviewed several recent
research articles related to the smart waste management system, and almost all of them have some major limitations as
well as progress. To ensure environmental hygiene and sustainable urban life, we have presented a smart IoT based
integrated system consists of an identification system for checking the percentage the bin is filled, and a communication
system. Arduino UNO is used as a micro controller base mother board to synchronize all of the systems. Sensors are
used for identification and measuring the garbage level. The system provides the facility of continuous monitoring of the
status of waste inside the garbage bin and shows the percentage filled up on web application The communication system
uses a global system for mobile communications (GSM) module that will prompt the corresponding Authorities via the
Web Application. Asking them to collect the waste when the garbage bin is filled up. The proposed waste management
system is much more efficient than any other conventional waste management system as it reduces the use of manpower,
avoids spillover of waste, saves time, more economical, and most importantly it is a completely automated system. A
data Analytics Software on top of it will help the Authorities to Analyse and Survey areas and add some more Skips or
remove the Skips from a perticular areas.
