INTRODUCTION
All of us are longing for eateries, hotels, and B & Bs to reopen. Fortunately, there are Basic Set Basic Set
still hostels on Catan that offer traveling merchants excellent room and board.
You can use these special hostel cards as an addition to the Rivals for CATAN™
introductory game and when playing the theme games.

GAME COMPONENTS
• 2 Hostel special cards
• 1 instructions sheet
PREPARATION
Crafting the Special Cards
Print out this sheet, cut out the cards along the dashed lines, and glue the card faces to the
card backs (or put them into card sleeves).
Set-up
Place the 2 Hostel cards as a face-up expansion card stack next to the draw stacks
(see “The Theme Games > General Rules > Preparation-2” in the Rivals for CATAN™
rules). For example, the face-up expansion card stack in the Era of Gold theme set
would consist of 2 Merchant Guild cards and 2 Hostel cards.
EXPLANATION
• Each player may only build 1 Hostel in their principality.
• You must have a hero in your principality before you can build the Hostel.
• The Hostel changes the effect of the Traveling Merchant event card for you. Instead of Building Settlement/City Building Settlement/City
paying 1 gold for each resource you take (maximum 2), you take 2 resources for free. Hostel (1x) Hostel (1x)
