We are currently seeking an experienced professional, to fill the role of Mine Engineer in Training.
This position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near
Middle Musquodoboit, NS. The project is fully funded and permitted and began production in fall 2017.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Mine Engineer will safely and efficiently control
and optimize operational activities at the Touquoy open pit mine. Additionally, they will lead and
execute operational improvement projects, including drilling, blasting, loading and hauling and estimate
and control operational consumables, including explosives. Provide primary support to budgeting and
cost analysis for mining activities.

Key accountabilities
• Ensuring own health and safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining
safe work practices and completing all required safety training.
• Ensure all mine operations comply with all applicable government and internal regulations,
policies and procedures.
• Identify and lead improvements to drill and blast designs to achieve desired results
(fragmentation, vibration control, powder factor, floor elevation).
• Work closely with Mine Planning and Mine Operations teams to achieve weekly and monthly
production goals in a safe and efficient manner.
• Produce and analyse daily, weekly and monthly production statistics for drilling, blasting, loading
and hauling to track KPI’s, identify issues, and implement corrective actions to achieve goals.
• Perform safety and performance inspections and audits in the field as required or requested to
ensure continued safe production.
• Work together with all other areas of the operation to support company goals.
• Support cost estimation and cost reporting for mine activities, including providing analysis and
input for budgeting.
• Direct contractors as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Required
• Behaviour consistent with Atlantic Gold & St Barbara values.
• Degree in Mine Engineering with eligibility for P.Eng or EIT registration with Engineers of Nova
Scotia.
• Valid class 5 Canadian driver’s license.
• At least 3 years mine engineering experience at an operating surface mine with direct work in
drilling and blasting.
• Previous use of 3D CAD programs for mining (Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Surpac, etc.).

Desirable

• Previous direct responsibility for drilling and blasting operations in an open pit mining
environment.
• Additional courses on drilling and blasting post-graduation.
• Experience managing contractors or contracts in general.

• A valid class 3 driver’s licence
