Materials and Tools

 Yarn: 1 or more colors.
I made one pair in Scheepjes Stone Washed (picture on previous page) and one
pair in Catania “Originals” cotton (picture on next page). I used yarn in yellow,
brown, off-white/white and pink/mint (leftover).
Colors are only suggestions, you can choose your own color palette.
 Crochet hook in accordance with the yarn you use.
I used hook 2.00 mm / B-1.
 Stuffing: I used polyester wool and a chopstick to stuff the doll.
 Tapestry needle, scissors.
 Safety eyes 8.00 mm.
 Stitch marker.
I used thin black thread.
 Black embroidery thread for the nose, eyebrows and mouth.

Stuff the body firmly.
Don’t cut the yarn yet as we are going to make the legs first. Mark the beginning of the round
before starting the left leg.

LEGS

First, make the left leg: crochet 21 sc (round 50). Leave 21 stitches open for the right
leg. Insert your hook in the very first stitch of the left leg for the next round (round 51) (fig
12,13). Continue working on these 21 stitches only. Stuff as you go.

53- 18 sc around 18
54- (1 sc, 1 dec) x6 12
55- (1 dec) x6 6

12 13 14

How to close the end of the round: with a darning needle (yarn needle), insert the remaining yarn
tail through all the front loops of the stitches on the last round (fig 15). Pull all together at once
and hide the yarn inside the part you are working on (fig 16).

15 16

Right leg:
Leave a long starting yarn tail for sewing the gap between the legs later.
Lay the doll in front of you, facing you. Insert your hook across through both stitches and
make a slip stitch (fig 17, 18). In the same stitch, crochet the first sc of the right leg. Then
continue to follow the pattern.

Stuff the leg firmly.

6- (3 sc, 1 inc) x2, 4 sc, (3 sc, 1 inc) x3, 7 sc, 1 inc 38
7-8- 38 sc around 38

How to invisibly fasten off:

Using a yarn needle, insert it in both loops of the second stitch after the last stitch (fig 27).
Then insert it in the back loop only of the last stitch. Secure the yarn and use the remaining yarn
tail for sewing.

27 28 29

● Note:
We will stuff the muzzle while sewing it onto the head later.

HAIR

First piece:
Round 1: crochet 15 chains very loosely.
● Note: you can use a bigger size of hook for a loose tension.
Round 2: starting in the 4th ch from the hook, crochet 3 dc in each of the sts all the way
back to the first ch (fig 30, 31).
Don’t cut the yarn, continue with the second piece of hair.

30 31

Second piece:
Round 1: crochet 12 chs very loosely.

8
Round 2: starting in the 4th ch from the hook, crochet 3 dc in each of the stitches all the
way back to the first ch (fig 32, 33).
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Join both pieces together using a needle. (fig 34)

32 33 34

FLOWER

Round 1: crochet 14 chs very loosely.

Round 2: starting in the 4th ch from the hook, crochet 4 dc in each of the next 2 stitches,
crochet 4 tr in each of the remaining chs (fig 35, 36, 37).

35 36 37

The flower should roll into its own. If it doesn't, start at the end without the tail and curl the length
into a spiral. Use a yarn needle to fixate the curled flower at the back (fig 38, 39).

38 39 40

Make a long lace (70 ch) and sew the middle to the bottom of the flower (fig 40).

9
BOW

Round 1: crochet 10 chains.

Rounds 2-7-: ch 1, turn, 10 sc across.

41 42 43

44 45

Edging:
Turn your work, bring the yarn around the loop (from left to right). Now the yarn lays in front of
the loop (fig 43). Insert your hook in a row-end and make a sc. You will have to repeat the process
in every stitch around the bow. Make 2 sc in every corner (fig 44, 45).
Make a lace of 70 chains. Use this lace to tie the center of the bow. Tie the bow onto the neck
of the giraffe (fig 46, 47).

46 47

SKIRT

ROUND PATTERN #st

1- 42 crochet chains, join with first chain 42
2- 1 starting chain, 42 sc, join at the end of round 42
Change to white yarn (fig 48, 49).
10
● Note: I changed the color of yarn during join with first chain.
3- Work only in back loops: 3 starting chains, (1 dc inc, 2 dc) x14, 56
join at the end of round
4- Work only in back loops: 3 starting chains, 70
(2 dc, 1 dc inc, 1 dc) x14, join at the end of round
5- Work only in back loops: 3 starting chains, 84
(1 dc, 1 dc inc, 3 dc) x14, join at the end of round

How to change the color of yarn:

With the two loops from the previous yarn on the hook, wrap the new yarn around the hook,
pull the new yarn through the two loops of the stitch.

48 49

50 51

Ruffles:
Work in the back loops only. Attach your yarn in any of the stitches in round 5. Start with 3 chs,
slip stitch to the next stitch. Repeat the pattern (3 chs + 1 slst) all the way around the skirt (fig 52).

52 53 54

Make ruffles in the leftover front loops of round 3 of the skirt, using the same pattern as above.
11
55

ASSEMBLING:

- Sew the arms on both sides between the head and body (fig 56, 57, 58).

56 57 58

- Sew the muzzle right under the eyes. Make sure it is in the middle of the face. Stuff as
you go (fig 59, 60, 61).

59 60 61

- Sew the horns on top of the head (fig 62, 63).

62 63

12
- Sew the ears on each side, 3 rounds below the horns (fig 64, 65).

64 65

- Position the hair according to your liking. Sew to secure (fig 66, 67).

66 67

- Embroider eyebrows and eyelashes. Below you find instructions for the embroidered
smiley eyes. Use pins to mark the eyes. Place them 1-2 rounds above the muzzle.
The eyes are 5 stitches long and 1 stitch in height (fig 68, 69). There should be 6
stitches in between both eyes.

68 69 70

13
How to make the invisible decrease:

Insert your hook in the front loop of stitch (a) and immdiately insert it in the front loop of stitch (b)
(fig. 1, 2, 3). Yarn over and pull through the front loops (a) and (b) (fig 4). Yarn over and pull through the 2
remaining loops (fig 5).
