My name is George Ningpo, DOB June 7th, 1971. I am a Tibetan Buddhist teacher, and
reside at 30520 Lynne Drive, Wesley Chapel, Florida 33543.
I write this letter in support of the application for asylum for Sam pa Lhundup, DOB
January 1st 1972.
Mr. Lhundup and I have known each other for many years, as we were childhood friends
and distant relatives in the Rusar Nyima Township ofNagchu County, Tibet. Mr.
Lhundup escaped from Tibet to India in 1993 fleeing prosecution for his race and religion
by the Chinese government, and where he was also unjustly imprisoned for political
activities related to Tibetan Independence.
I am concerned for my friend's safety if he must return to India and would like to
personally attest that Mr. Lhundup's living conditions as a Tibetan refugee are unstable
and dangerous. In India, he must live in a small Tibetan ethnic enclave, where he cannot
own any property, and has no legal standing as a citizen. Furthermore, it is very difficult
for him to acquire proper documentation and citizenship in India because he is a native
Tibetan, and opportunities for him and his family are severely restricted.
I sincerely hope you will consider Mr. Lhundup's request for asylum. He is a
compassionate family man, and an exceptional artisan, who presence in this country
would greatly benefit the society.
