Grace and Her Heavy Rucksack
Grace and Her Heavy Rucksack
Grace and Her Heavy Rucksack
Grace loved school. She was a good student and always put her hand
up to answer questions. Her favourite teacher was Mrs Morrison. Two
weeks ago, Mrs Morrison taught a lesson on healthy eating. She told
her students to bring lots of fruit to school with them that day.
They all brought lots of different fruit: strawberries, blackberries,
pears, bananas, apples, oranges and one student even brought a mango. They peeled
and chopped the fruit and made a colourful fruit salad. They ate it instead of their
usual pudding. It was delicious – and healthy! Grace felt really good.
Grace loved to keep fit and so she walked to school and back every day.
It was quite a long walk: forty-five minutes, and Grace usually enjoyed
it. However, soon after the healthy eating lesson, she began to get pains
in her back. She blamed her rucksack - it was so heavy! It was dragging
her down! She complained to her mother. Mum asked Grace what was in
the rucksack. Then she decided to have a look. She took out – a
chemistry text book, a maths folder, a pencil case, three exercise
books, a calculator, a rainproof and then, right at the very bottom – a huge, heavy
melon! It was an ingredient for the fruit salad! That melon had stayed in Grace’s
rucksack all that time. When Grace got to school that morning, she told Mrs Morrison
and Mrs Morrison laughed out loud. And so did the rest of the class.😊
