What’s in a computer?

By:Henry 8A
Motherboard
The motherboard is a
printed circuit board
located on the back side or
at the bottom of the
computer’s structure. The
motherboard distributes
power and also allows
communication towards
the CPU, RAM and all of the
computer’s hardware
components.
CPU
The CPU or otherwise
known as the Central
Processing Unit, is one of
the hardwares a computer
has.The CPU is the brain of
the computer and it is
where all of the Computer’s
calculations take place.
RAM
The RAM or otherwise known as Random
Access Memory, is a physical hardware inside
a computer that temporarily stores data,
allows data items to be read and also allows
data to be written which means it’s the
computer’s working memory.You can improve
your computer’s memory system by adding in
additional RAM which actually boost the
computer’s total system performance.
Power Supply
The power supply unit or PSU is a
unit converter which converts AC
power to a lower DC power unit
which is used to power the
internal components of the
computer. There are 3 major types
of power supply units and they are
unregulated,linear regulated and
switching PSUs.
Hard Disk
The hard disk is a memory hardware
device that stores and retrieves data in
the computer.All computers have hard
disks in a computer and the computer
uses it to store files, store software
programs and the user’s personal files.
PCI-Express Cards
PCI-Express Cards or otherwise known as
(peripheral component interconnect express) is an
computer expansion card standard. The PCIE cards
have a switch that controls several serial and
network connections. It’s also a hardware bus used
for adding internal components to a computer. A
typical PCIE card would contain ports for
USBs,Audio jacks,Raid Cards and HDMI ports.
Graphics Card
The graphics card is one of the
computer hardwares that produces
the image(s) you see on the
monitor or screen.The graphics
card decides how to use the pixels
on the screen then sends that
information to the monitor by a
cable, which then display the
image.
Heat Sink
The heat sink is a heat resistance, thermal conductive
device which absorbs building heat inside the
computer and dispense it away outside. Most heat
sinks commonly have a fan to help keep both the CPU
and heatsink at a moderate temperature level. To
know if your heatsink is working or not,try touching
your heatsink while the computer is working. If it’s hot
it’s working and if it’s cold it’s not working. The reason
is because the heatsink will get hot from taking the
hot air out of the temperature so the metal part
should be hot and if it’s cold then it means that the
heatsink isn’t taking out the hot air and that the
heatsink isn’t working.
