Mohammed (peace be upon him)

In Madina is the grave of the prophet, which visited by angels


It is such grave, there is excellence in empyrean and in the sky

The tomb of the holy prophet in Madina

Is there any relation between desert of Madina with the


gardens?
So with the lovely air of Madina, it is envious the garden of
paradise

If Madina city is safe then everything is safe


So Allah keeps it as the cause of the blessing

The seasons of the gardens of paradise are due to the Madina

While leaving Madina, so no need to visit the garden of paradise


As it is better than heaven and it is a living paradise on the earth

Not we but Allah also love the city of the

prophet and love of Allah

The beggar of this door is the king of fate and worlds


The beggar of this place is matter of envy of the kings

One who has become rich there so his fate could not known
In the resurrection day prophet, Ibrahim will find help there

Where is the mercy and there is available blessing everywhere?

If one leaves Madina then he will not find the resort of heaven
If there is a love of Madina then it is guaranteed of the heaven

On the earth, he is called Mohammed and Ahmed in the skies


His praise is in the world and also his praise is found in the skies

There is his great rule in Madina also he is a ruler of the skies

Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Quader Jilani (R.A.), is the leader of all holy
persons like the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him.) who

is the leader of the group of all prophets of Allah which have


been sent down on the world. So, for this reason, he is called
and he is famous as a chief of all the saints. His spiritual benefits
and favours from his miracles were available in the all period of
time and even today is being continued and till the day of the
judgment, such favours and benefits will be available to the
mankind in the world. Because the favour and benefits of the
holy persons which is available during the life period and which
will be also available in the world after their demise from the
world. Allah the most Merciful and Beneficent has kept the holy
persons in every period of time so that there should available
favours of miracles and benefits to the mankind from them.
The holy persons due to the nearness of Allah and
perfection in the obedience of the prophet of Allah they were
away from the sins. Allah has given them the most excellent
status of the holy persons of the nation of the prophet
Mohammed (peace be upon him) and Allah’s divine power
being manifest by the holy persons

So for getting favour and benefits from the holy persons is


in fact of getting favour and benefits from Allah because their
saying, actions are according to the commandments of Allah
and as per the practice of the last prophet of Allah.
Hadrat Sheikh Abdul Quader Jilani (R.A.), and who was the
Qutub (highest cadre in spiritual pivot) of all time’s favour of
spiritual miracle is available in his saying which is as mentioned
as follows.

“If my disciple’s hiding will be open and if he will be there in


the East, and if I am in the West then I will cover it.”
In this way, his disciples and devotees were able to get his
favour of miracles and benefits of spiritual powers in all time
and at always. And they think him as a manifest of the help of
Allah and so, for this reason, they see his favour of miracles and
benefits from him. There is saying of the prophet, which is as
follows.
“If your animal will run away from you then you should call
as oh people of Allah help me.”

For the revival of the religion of Islam, Hadrat Sheikh Abdul


Quader Jilani (R.A.), is such an enormous personality and a
great leader and due to the blessing of his hand while finding
the religion of Islam as a patient in the exemplary shape and
given new life to it and so then he was becoming famous and
well known by the title of Mohiuddin.

The first eight principles are from 'Abd ul-Khaliq Ghujduwani (d.
1220). The final three principles were added by Baha ad-din
Naqshband (d. 1389).
1.Awareness in the Breath/Awareness in the Moment (Hush
dar dam)

"Every breath which is exhaled from within must be exhaled


with awareness and presence of mind and so that the mind
does not stray into forgetfulness."
Baha ad-din Naqshband said: "The foundation of our work is in
the breath. The more that one is able to be conscious of one's
breathing, the stronger is one's inner life. It is a must for
everyone to safeguard his breath in the time of his inhalation
and exhalation and further, to safeguard his breath in the
interval between the inhalation and exhalation."
As the seeker becomes occupied with the exercise of the
moment (i.e. remembering the breath), he turns his attention
from remembering the past and thinking of the future, and
focuses on each breath until it is expired.
Sa'd ud-din Kashghari added: "Hush dar dam is moving from
breath to breath so there is no heedlessness but rather there is
presence, and with each breath that we take should be the
remembrance of the Real."
Sheikh Abdul Janab Najmuddin al-Kubra said in his book,
Fawatih al-Jamal: "Dhikr (remembrance of God in the breath) is
flowing in the body of every single living creature by the
necessity of their breath—even without will—as a sign of
obedience, which is part of their creation. Through their
breathing, the sound of the letter 'Ha' of the Divine Name Allah
is made with every exhalation and inhalation and it is a sign of
the Unseen Essence serving to emphasize the Uniqueness of
God. Therefore it is necessary to be present with that

breathing,

in order to realize the Essence of the Creator."


The name Allah, which encompasses the ninety-nine Names
and Attributes, consists of four letters, Alif, Lam, Lam and Hah
(ALLAH). The people of Sufism say that the absolute unseen
Essence of Allah Exalted and Almighty is expressed by the last
letter vowelized by the Alif, "Hah." It represents the Absolutely
Unseen "He-ness" of the Exalted God (Ghayb al-Huwiyya al-
Mutlaqa lillah 'azza wa jall) in which the mystic loses his
separate identity with every "hah" in his breath.

The first Lam is for the sake of identification (tacrif) and the
second Lam is for the sake of emphasis (mubalagha).
The soul has long been thought to be in the breath. "For the
early thinkers the soul was visualized sensuously as a breath-
body." Awareness of the breath makes us aware of the soul and
the inner body, inner self, which belong to the moment.
In the path of the Khwajagan awareness in the breath is a
very great principle. Those in this path regard it a great
transgression to become unconscious of the breath.

2.Watch your Step! (Nazar bar qadam)


Direct yourself constantly towards the goal.
Sa'd ud-din Kashghari added: "Looking upon the steps means
that the seeker in coming and going looks upon the top of his
feet and thereby his attention is not scattered by looking at
what he should not look at." When the beginner's attention is
taken by shapes and colors outside of himself, his state of
remembering leaves him and is ruined, and he is kept from his
objective. This is because the beginning seeker does not have
the power of the "remembrance of the heart," so when his
sight falls upon things, his heart loses its collectedness, and his
mind becomes scattered.
Watch your step can also refer to watching circumstances,
feeling when is the right time for action, when is the right time
for inaction, and when is the right time for pause. Some have

said that Nazar bar qadam is an expression which refers to the


wisdom inherent in one's natural disposition.
Fakhr ud-Din Kashifi added: "Nazar bar qadam may be alluding
to the seekers traveling through the stages of breaking from
existence and putting behind self- love."
Of these three interpretations, the first refers to beginners' use
of this aphorism, the second refers to those in mid-progress on
the Way, and the third to the Attainers.

3.The Journey Home (Safar dar watan)


Your journey is towards your homeland. Remember you are
traveling from a world of illusion to a world of reality. The
wayfarer travels from the world of creation to the world of the
Creator.
The Journey Home is the transformation that brings man out
of his subjective dream state, so that he can fulfill his divine
destiny.
From the Rashahat-i 'ayn al-hayat: "[The journey home refers
to] that traveling which the seeker makes within his human
nature. In other words, travel from the qualities of humankind
toward the angelic qualities, moving from blameworthy
qualities to laudable ones." Sheikh Ahmad Sirhindi (d. 1624)
said: "This blessed expression [traveling in the homeland]
means traveling within the self. The source of its results lies in
putting the final [practice] at the beginning, which is one of the
characteristics of the Naqshbandi Way. And although this
[inner] traveling can also be found in other tariqas [schools of
Sufism], [in those] it is found only in the end after the 'traveling
on the horizons' [referring to the Qur'anic verse (41:53): 'We
will show them Our signs on the horizons and within their
selves until they know He is the Real']."
"Traveling on the horizons" is traveling from place to place.
At the beginning of the journey it can mean leaving home to
find a guide or teacher. Also it happened in former generations
that when the wayfarer had become established in a place, got

accustomed to it and become familiar with its people, they took

on traveling in order to break down habit and comfort and cut


themselves off from renown. They would choose travel in order
to experience complete emptying.
It means traveling within oneself, looking at oneself, examining
oneself and one's reactions, and how they act upon one.
This reflects the stress that the Naqshbandi path puts on the
inner states, stages, processes.
Be an external resident and let your heart
travel. Traveling without legs is the best kind of
travel.

4.Solitude in the Crowd (Khalwat dar anjuman)


There are two kinds of retreat. One is the outward kind in
which the seeker, far from people, sits alone in his cell until he
comes into contact with the spiritual world. This result comes
about because the external senses withdraw themselves and
the inner senses extend themselves to signs from the spiritual
world.
The second kind of retreat is the hidden one, where the seeker
is inwardly witnessing the secrets of the Real while he is
outwardly surrounded by people. Khalwat dar anjuman is of
this second type of retreat: outwardly to be with people,
inwardly to be with God.
In all your outer activities remain inwardly free. Learn not to
identify with anything whatsoever.
Khwaja Awliya Kabir, one of the deputies of 'Abd ul-Khaliq
Ghujduwani, explained khalwat dar anjuman as follows:
"'Retreat within the crowd' is that state when one is so
constantly and completely absorbed in divine remembrance
that 'one could walk through the market-place without hearing
a word.'"
They are with their Lord and simultaneously they are with the
people. As the Prophet said, "I have two sides: one faces my
Creator and one faces creation."
'Abd ul-Khaliq Ghujduwani himself was known to say: "Close
the door of the formality of sheikhhood, open the door of

friendship. Close the door of khalwat (solitary retreat) and

open the door of suhbat (companionship)." Baha ad-din


Naqshband said in this connection: "Our path is in
companionship. In [physical] retreat there comes fame and
with fame comes calamity. Our welfare lies with the assembly
and its companionship, on condition that [self-] negation is
found in one another."
When Baha ad-din reached Herat on his journey to Mecca,
the Amir Hussein arranged a gathering in his honour. At the
assembly the Amir asked him, "Since with your Presence there
is neither audible dhikr, nor voyaging, nor audition of special
music and poetry, what is your path?" He answered, "The pure
words of the tribe of 'Abd ul-Khaliq Ghujduwani, which are
'retreat within the crowd,' and we follow in their Way." "What
is retreat within the crowd?" the Amir asked. "Outwardly to be
with the people while inwardly to be with God," said
Naqshband.

The Amir expressed surprise and asked whether this was


actually possible. Baha ad-din replied that if it were not possible
God Most High would not have indicated it in a Qur'anic verse
which describes those who are not distracted from the
remembrance of God even while in the marketplace: "Men
whom neither business nor profit distracts from the
recollection of Allah" [24:37]. This is the way of the Naqshbandi
Order.
Ahmad Faruqi Sirhindî, Mujaddid-i-alf-i-thani (the Renewer
of the second millennium), said: "Retreat within the crowd is
derived from traveling in the homeland since if traveling in the
homeland is properly accomplished, then retreat within the
crowd will properly occur. The seeker within the diversity of the
crowd travels in his own land, and the diversity of the horizons
finds no way into the meditation cell of his inner self. This
treasure will manifest with difficulty at the beginning and with
no difficulty in the end. And in this tariqa it is the portion of the
beginning while in other paths it is at the end. This is so
because the treasure is derived from traveling within the self
(with presence in the moment), which is at the beginning of this
path, while traveling on the horizons takes place
simultaneously. This is the opposite of the other paths which
make the traveling on the horizons the beginning and the
traveling within the self the end."
In the words of al-Kharraz: "Perfection is not in exhibitions
of miraculous powers, but perfection is to sit among people,
sell and buy, marry and have children; and yet never leave the

presence of Allah even for one moment."

5.Remembrance (Yad kard)
Concentration on Divine Presence.
For the Naqshbandiyya remembrance is practiced in the silent
dhikr.Keep God, the Beloved, always in your heart. Let your prayer,
dhikr, be the prayer of your heart.

According to Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar, "the real meaning of


dhikr is inward awareness of God. The purpose of dhikr is to
attain this consciousness." The purpose of the dhikr is to keep
one's heart and attention entirely focused on the Beloved in
love and devotion.
The dhikr is not just repeated as words, but is in the heart.
Remembrance of the tongue becomes remembrance of the
heart. Abdu'l-Qadir al-Gilani said: "At the first stage one recites
the name of God with one's tongue; then when the heart
becomes alive one recites inwardly. At the beginning one
should declare in words what one remembers. Then stage by
stage the remembrance spreads throughout one's being—
descending to the heart then rising to the soul; then still further
it reaches the realm of the secrets; further to the hidden; to the
most hidden of the hidden."
6.Returning (from distraction), Going Back (Baz gasht)
Travel one way.The return to God. Single-minded pursuit of
divine truth.

This means banishing and dispelling every thought, good or


bad, that comes to mind involuntarily during the dhikr. When
performing the remembrance the heart is required to attain the
calm contentment of: “Oh Allah, my goal is You and Your good
pleasure; it is nothing else!” So long as there is any space left in
the heart for other interests, such calm contentment cannot
take shape, and the remembrance cannot be genuine. Even

if this

tranquility cannot be attained at the outset, one must not


abandon the remembrance, and it is necessary to persist in its
performance until this feeling is acquired.

The meaning of baz gasht is the return to Allah Exalted and


Almighty by showing complete surrender and submission to His
Will, and complete humbleness in giving Him all due praise. The
reason, mentioned by the Holy Prophet in his invocation, ma
dhakarnaka haqqa dhikrika ya Madhkar (“We did not
Remember You as You Deserve to be Remembered, O Allah”), is
that the seeker cannot come to the presence of Allah in his
dhikr, and cannot manifest the Secrets and Attributes of Allah in
his dhikr, if he does not make dhikr with Allah's support and
with Allah's remembrance of him. As Bayazid Bistami (d. 874)
said: “When I reached

Him I saw that His remembering of me preceded my


remembrance of Him.” The seeker cannot make dhikr by
himself.
He must recognize that Allah is the one making dhikr through
Him.

“Beloved, you and your approval are my purpose and desire.”


This attitude will rid one of impure thoughts and distractions. It
relates to the path of absorption. One Sufi was concerned that
he was not sincere, and was ashamed. So his sheikh took him to
a Sufi who was on the path of absorption, and this sheikh told
him that absorption, not hair-splitting, would free him from his
problem. The wayfarer realized that in his worry about his
dishonesty and shame, his wants and needs, he had been
focused on himself, separating himself from his Beloved.

According to Khwaja Ahrar, the saying “returning” means


that we have within us the goal of our striving. The seeds of
transformation are sown in us from above and we have to
treasure them above all possessions.
7. Attentiveness (Nigah dasht)
Struggle with all alien thoughts. Be always mindful of what
you are thinking and doing, so that you may put the imprint of
your immortality on every passing incident and instance of your
daily life.
Be watchful. Be aware of what catches your attention. Learn to
withdraw your attention from undesirable objects. This is also

expressed as "be vigilant in thought and remember yourself."


Nigah means sight. It means that the seeker must watch his
heart and safeguard it by preventing bad thoughts from
entering. Bad inclinations keep the heart from joining with the
Divine.
It is acknowledged in the Naqshbandiyya that for a seeker to
safeguard his heart from bad inclinations for fifteen minutes is
a great achievement. For this he would be considered a real
Sufi. Sufism is the power to safeguard the heart from bad
thoughts and protect it from low inclinations. Whoever
accomplishes these two goals will know his heart, and whoever
knows his heart will know his Lord. The Holy Prophet has said,
"Whoever knows himself knows His Lord."

Sa'd ud-Din Kashgari said: "The seeker must, for one hour or
two or whatever he is capable of, hold onto his mind and
prevent thoughts of other [than God] entering." Another
description from the Munahej ul-Sair has it that: "[Nigah dasht
is the] guarding of the special awareness and presence which
have resulted from the noble dhikr, so that remembering of
anything other than the Real does not find its way into the
heart/mind."
Yet others have written that nigah dasht also applies to
the time of the dhikr itself: "Nigah dasht is when the seeker at
the time of the dhikr holds his heart/mind upon the meaning of
LA ILAHA ILLA 'LLAH so that thoughts do not find entrance into
his heart, because if thoughts are in the mind then the result of
the dhikr, meaning presence of the heart/mind, will not
manifest." It has also been said, "Nigah dasht is an expression
meaning the prevention of the occurance of thought at the
time one is occupied with [repeating] the fragrant sentence [of
LA ILAHA ILLA 'LLAH]."
Abdul Majid Il Khani said that the meaning of preserving the
heart/mind from incoming thoughts is that they lose their hold
on the mind. In this connection Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar said:
"The meaning of preserving the mind [from thoughts] is not
that the seeker can avoid thoughts at the beginning [of his
attempts], but rather that thoughts do not disturb the
attendance and presence[required for the dhikr]. [Thoughts]
can be likened to straw which has fallen onto moving water and
yet the water is not prevented from its course. 'Abd ul-Khaliq

Ghujduwani said: "It isn't so that thoughts never enter the


heart/mind, but rather

that at times they do and at times they do not." His statement


seems to be supported by Khwaja 'Ala al-Din al-'Attar who
reported: "Succeeding with thoughts is difficult or even
impossible. I preserved my heart for twenty years from
thoughts, after which they would still appear but they then
found no hold there."

8.Continued Remembrance / Perpetual Invocation (Yad dasht)


Constant awareness in the presence of God. "The complete
experience of divine contemplation, achieved through the
action of objective love."

Those on the path maintain that when inner love is always


present in one's dealings with the world, then one has achieved
this mindfulness.
This is the last stage before transformation is completed. The
seeker becomes aware that his loss of "self" will be
compensated by objective love. The humiliation (abnegation of
self) that leads to this stage ceases to touch the seeker for he
discovers the unlimited joy that Truth will bring.
Yad dasht refers to the durability of the awareness of the Real
in the path of "tasting" (living in the multiplicity of illusion). In
the Rashahat-i 'ain al-Hayyat it is stated: "Some have said that
this is a perceiving/witnessing which is the domination of
witnessing the Real in the heart through essential love."
Ubaydullah Ahrar said: "Yad dasht is an expression meaning
the durability of the awareness of the Glorious Real." He said
further: "It means presence [with God] without disappearance."
Regarding the use of the term for the period of the dhikr
itself it has been said: "Yad dasht is that which the dhakir
(person practicing dhikr) during the dhikr maintains [fully the
meaning of] negation and affirmation in his heart in the
presence of the Named."
Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar has described the principles five
through eight as following each other in this manner: "Yad kard
(Remembrance) refers to the work of invoking/remembering.
Baz gasht(Returning) means turning to the High Real in the
manner that when saying the fragrant sentence of the dhikr the

seeker follows this in his heart with "God you are my true goal!"
and nigah dasht(Attentiveness) is the holding on to this
turning [to the Real] without words. Yad dasht
(Recollection) means constancy/firmness in [the holding on of]
nigah dasht (Attentiveness)."

9. Awareness of One's State of Mind / Time (Wuquf-i-zamani)


Baha ad-din Naqshband said that this consciousness is the
maker and guide of the disciple. It means to be attentive to
one's state of mind at any given moment and to know whether
it is a cause for giving thanks or for repenting.

It means: To keep account of one's temporal states. To


distinguish presence, huzur, from absence, ghaflat. Baha ad-din
described this as "self- possession" or "mindfulness." He added
that one should always be grateful when one returns to a state
of presence.
In wuquf-i-zaman the seeker remains constantly aware of his
changing states. Baha ad-din Naqshband explained: "Wuquf-i-
zamani is the work of the traveler on the Way: to be attentive
of his state, and to know whether it is a cause for giving thanks
or for repenting, to give thanks while feeling spiritual elation,
and to repent while in spiritual dryness or contraction."
He also stated: "The foundation of the work of the seeker has
been established in the awareness of time [exercise] as seeing
at each moment whether the perceiver of breaths is [breathing]
with presence or with forgetfulness."
Maulana Yaqub Charkhi, in his Explanation of the Names of
Allah, said: "Khwaja [Naqshband] instructed that in the state of
qabz (contraction) one should seek God's forgiveness, whereas
in the state of bast (expansion) one should offer thanks. Close
observation of these two states constitutes wuquf-i-zamani."
Wuquf-i- zamani of the Naqshbandi path is equivalent to the
term "mohasseba"(keeping account of/close observation) used
by other Sufis.
Jami, in the Resalah-i-nuria, said:"Wuquf-i-zamani is a term
meaning the keeping account of the times one passes in [a
state of] dispersal (tafriqah) or collectedness (jam'iyyat)."

10. Awareness of Number (Wuquf-i-adadi)


An expression meaning the observation of the number of
individual repetitions of the dhikr. Jami said: "Wuquf-i-adadi is
the observation of the number of dhikrs and of whether this
[observation] yields results or not." According to Baha ad-din
Naqshband, "The observation of the number of repetitions of
the dhikr of the heart is for gathering thoughts/mental activity
which are scattered."
According to Khwaja 'Ala al-Din al-'Attar, "The important
thing is not the number of repetitions but rather the
composure and awareness with which one makes them."

According to Baha ad-din Naqshband, this awareness is the


first stage of entry into the spiritual world.
This could also mean that for beginners, reading about the
achievements and states of consciousness demonstrated by
those advanced in this practice would be helpful, since in
reading about another's state of nearness, one acquires a
certain quality of inner inspiration.
For advanced disciples, this technique, which facilitates the
initial stages of acquiring inner intuition and inspiration, brings
a consciousness of the unity of diversity:

This diversity and proliferation is all but a


show, The One is manifest in the all.
Diversity, if you look with open eyes, is naught but unity. No
doubts for us, though there might be in some minds. Though
appearance is in numbers, the substance is but one.
(It should be noted that inner inspiration, that understanding
which brings the practitioner and people on the path closer to
higher teachings, comes through divine grace and is not due to
mind discoveries. "Knowledge comes from grace. The
difference between divine inspiration and divine knowledge is
that divine knowledge comes through internalizing the light of
the Essence and the divine attributes, while divine inspiration is
gained through receptivity to inner meanings and those types
of instructions which manifest within the practitioner.")

11. Awareness of the Heart (Wuquf-i-qalbi)


The heart becomes aware of God. This marks the awakening
of divine love. The individual becomes aware that his existence
is an obstacle to his final transformation and he no longer fears
to sacrifice it because he sees for himself that he will gain
infinitely more than he loses.
Wuquf-i-qalbi has been described as having two meanings. One
is that the seeker's heart in the midst of the dhikr is conscious
and aware of the Real. On this point Khwaja Ubaydullah Ahrar
said: "Wuquf-i-qalbi is an expression meaning an

awareness and presence of heart toward the Most High Real


felt in such a manner that the heart feels no need of anything
except the Real." This meaning is similar to that of yad dasht.
Heart consciousness means heart's resting with the Beloved,
as if nothing and no one else existed.
The other meaning is that there is awareness of the heart
itself. In other words, the seeker during the time of the dhikr is
attentive to the cone-shaped heart which is the "seat of
subtlety," and prevents it from becoming unaware during the
saying of the dhikr.
Baha ad-din Naqshband did not consider it necessary to hold
the breath during the dhikr as is done in some tariqas, even
though he considered that practice to have its benefits; nor did
he consider essential the wuquf-i-zamani and wuquf-i- adadi
(awareness of time and awareness of number). But
according to the Qodsîyyah he considered "the observance of
wuquf-i-qalbi the most important and necessary because it is
the summary and essence of the intention of the dhikr."
Like an expecting mother-bird, sit watchfully on the egg of
your heart, Since from this egg will result your drunkenness,
self-abandoned, uproarious laughter and your final union.

When Hazrat Shah Naqshband was a young


man, he went to Makkahtul Mukarrama to perform
his obligatory pilgrimage. When he arrived, he was
met by Hazrat Khizr (may Allah be pleased with
him), who blessed him with his teachings and
granted him a new cane as a gift. In Bukhara, this
cane grew into a beautiful tree that gave shade to
the area around Shah Naqshband's tomb for

Preface

In this book translation of episodes from the Urdu edition of


the book “100 Waqat of Hazrat Baba Farid” is added by me
upon its translation into the English edition and this book is well
known and this is a famous book which is written by
Mohammed Masood Quaderi and who wrote this book in the
Urdu language and which is translated by me into English
language first time. And given its title as “50 Events of Khaja
Fariduddin Ganj Shaker.”
These episodes have been translated by me into the English
language from the above old book of the Urdu language and in
which there are available some great achievements, as well as
his commands and teaching of the students of the mystic way
by Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj Shaker in the area of the Pakpatam
and which are not yet known to the general and special
persons, are added in this book and which are available in a
very interesting style so, for this reason, the readers will find
great interest and attention in this matter.
Due to the above facts and details, if the readers will start
treading its first page of the book and will not stop reading till
they will reach this book’s last page as some interesting events
and as well as other great miracles and endeavors of the holy

saint of the world Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj Shaker is added in this
book and this holy saint was passed away from the world many
centuries and years ago.
Even though this is a small book, but due to its importance, it is
so great due to the coverage of many interesting events and
positive information so it is like an ocean of knowledge and
information of who was passed away from the world upon
doing his great endeavors and many hard tasks for the teaching
and propagation of the Islamic religion and the work of Islam
and he was done in the Baghdad area so this book is a great
book and it will present the ocean of knowledge for the
guidance of people towards the right path of Islam.

To write about this great Saint and the great spiritual master is
not only it is difficult and but it is a very hard task as Hazrat
Baba Farid Ganj Shaker was not only a great pious personality
of his time in the area of Baghdad but he was also a great and
famous spiritual master so, in brief, he was a great holy person
of Allah of his time in Punjab region and in other parts of India.
For a long time, he was engaged in religious discourses,
sermons, and spiritual training of the people and he did also
many great endeavors for the preaching and propagation work
of Islam in Punjab and around this region, and also there was
no such personality during his time in the world.

Introduction

PRAISE be to God who made love the foundation of the world;


God Himself was the first lover for He loved the Prophet,
Muhammad. Praise be to the Prophet whom God hath raised
from the dust of the earth to great dignity.

The prophet of the Islam has explained orders and issues of the
Islamic religion to his companions and from them, orders and
issues of the Islamic religion were reached to Taibin (Those who
saw him but held off believing in him until after his passing are
not considered ṣahābah but tābiʻūn.). And from these order
and issues were learned by Tabih Taibin (successors to the holy
prophet’s companion)
When Islamic religion went outside of the boundaries of the
Arabian peninsula then there were endeavors of preachers of
Islamic religion which were become successful. After Tabiun
then Taba Tabiun fulfilled their duties well in this matter. After
that this duty was fall on the shoulder of Islamic learned

persons, jurists, imams (leaders), and persons of Quran


exegesis. Holy persons of Allah and as well as pious persons.
And they have not shown any negligence in their duties. And
they have shown the right path to the Muslim nation.

“ Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj Shaker ” is also included among such


genius learned and holy persons and he has performed his
duties to the Muslim nation well. And by living in his company
many thousand students of reality were able to reach their
destination.
Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj Shaker is also a follower of a spiritual
chain of Chistia. And he was well known and genius famous
personality for his worship and mystical exercise. He has
complete knowledge of manifest in the service of his spiritual
master Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki. And when he has finished
knowledge of manifest then he was become his disciple and
afterward he has started stages of mysticism and he was
obtained robe of honor and caliphate from him.
Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj Shaker has obtained favour from his
great and genius holy persons of Allah Hazrat Khaja Bakhtiar
Kaki. And about his disciples and followers they were in many
thousands and who were reached to the higher status of the
saintliness.
There are many of excellence and quality of Hazrat Baba Farid
Ganj Shaker and aim of compiling a book of 50 events of Hazrat
Baba Farid Ganj Shaker ” is that to know his different aspect of
biography and to act upon them. In the last, there is pray in the
court of Allah is that to accept the endeavors of this lowest

person. May Allah give us divine instruction to become true and


sincere Muslims. (Amen)

1.He was a holy person of Allah by birth

In the book of biographies, it is written that when he was in the


womb of his mother then at that time his mother Bibi Qarsam
Khatun desire to eat berry fruit. And at that time there was one
berry tree in the house of her neighbor. Bibi Qarsam Khatun
has plucked some bair (a kind of berry) fruits from the tree of
her neighboring woman without permission and when he
wants to eat that fruit then there was a movement of Baba
Sahib in her womb and for this reason, bair fruits were fallen on
the earth and for this reason, she was unable to eat this front.
When he became an adult than one day Baba Sahib told her
that “When he was in her womb then at that time when you
want to eat Bair fruit without permission of the neighborhood
so I was moved in the womb and for this reason, bair fruits
were fallen on the earth and you were not able to eat.”

When Bibi Qarsan Khatun heard his son’s conversation then she
was able to know that her son is a holy person of Allah and he
was moved in her womb so that she could not eat suspicious
bair fruit.

2. He did not drink the milk of his mother at his birth

Baba Farid was born on the 29th of Shaban month. At the time
there was a difference among the people of his village for the
moon of the month of Ramadan. As there were clouds in the
sky and for this reason, it is not possible to view the new moon
of the month of Ramadan. The people have come into the
presence of his father and have told him that we could not able
to see the new moon of Ramadan due to the clouds. And we
are facing the problem of whether to keep fasting of Ramadan
or not.? His father told “As per legal opinion if the exordium will
not be clear and with clouds on the 29th date then have to
keep fasting of the 30 days which is compulsory in this matter.
And it is my saying that you complete fasting of the 30 days in
Ramadan.” The people were not satisfied by the reply of Qazi
Jamaluddin Sulaiman. And the people went to see one Majzub
(one lost in divine meditation) who was living in Kothiwal. And
from him, they have asked an issue of the new moon of the
Ramadan month. The Majzub told that “At this time there was
born one boy in the house of Qazi Jamal Suleiman and if that
boy will drink today milk then there will be no fasting by
tomorrow and if the boy will not drink milk today then there
will be fasting by tomorrow.” The people went again in the
presence of Qazi Jamal Sulaiman and have asked him “Whether

the boy drink milk or not.? “And he told them that “The boy did
not drink milk today.” So the people were able to know that
from today the month of Ramadan started.

3. The details of his primary education

When Baba Sahib was four years old then at that time his
father Qazi Jamaluddin Sulaiman died. But his mother did not
leave any endeavours for his education and training. He has
learned primary education and the holy Quran in Kothiwal and
in Kothiwal his teacher was Syed Nazir Ahmed. And afterward,
he was memorized the holy Quran by Qari Mohammed. He was
intelligent since his childhood. And when he has completed his
early education then he was learned Persian and Arabic
knowledge. And got efficiency in the knowledge of Islamic law
and syntax. And then he went to Multan and was become a
student of Minhaj Uddin. And from Minhajuddin he has learned
the current knowledge which is as follows.
1. Exegesis of the Quran 2. LOGIC 3.Mathematics.

4. His first meeting with Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki

Stay in Multan: Upon reaching Multan city he was settled down


in one mosque and this mosque was located in a caravan,
lodge, and in that mosque famous and a great learned person
Minhajuddin who used to teach the students in the mosque
there. Baba Saheb took teaching lessons from him in the Islamic

knowledge and within a period of three years, he was


completed the following knowledge.
1. Exegesis of the Quran
2. Hadith (The sayings of the prophet)
3. Basic
4 Rhetoric
5. Philosophy
6. Logic
7. Mathematics
8. Astronomy
As per tradition, it is known that he was memorizing the Holy
Quran in the above mosque and some other authors of the
biographies, say he was memorizing the Holy Quran in Khatwal
village.
In that mosque, one day Baba Saheb was studying the famous
Fiqa (Islamic law) book  Nafe and at that time Khaja Bakhtiar
Kaki was coming there and found him busy with the study of
the above book so he was asked him “ Oh: boy what you are
reading?” and he was replied him that “ He was reading the
book, Nafe. So the Sheikh was asked again him whether any
gain from it. Upon looking at the Sheikh, there was a strange
condition which prevailed upon him so he put his head on his
feet and told him “ Oh: Sheikh there will effect of the chemical
reaction from his eyesight for him”. Hazrat Khwaja kaki told him
that “He is staying in the shrine of Bahauddin Zikeria Multani
and you can meet with him there and by saying this he went
from there.

5. The second meeting with Khaja Bakhtiar Kaki

Baba Farid was met with Khaja Bakhtiar Kaki but he was
unaware who is that personality.? He has spent that night in
uneasiness and the next day after Fajr prayer he went toward
the shrine of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakaria Multani and where he
was found a big crowd of the people at the shrine building who
were waiting there to meet him. When he was asked about him
with servants then he was able to know that the personality
which he has met yesterday was the successor and caliph of the
Sultan Hind Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti. He was told the
servant to let him allow to meet him with Khaja Bakhtiar Kaki
and the servant told him that “ All these persons are standing
to meet him. You also stay here and when he will be come out
then he will meet him with all people.”He told him that” He
was asked me to meet so you to inform him that student Farid
has come here.” When the servant has informed Khaja Bakhtiar
Kaki then he told him that call him soon inside and I am waiting
for him.” When he has reached the presence of Hazrat Bakhtiar
Kaki along with his servant then at that time Hazrat Bahauddin
Zakaria Multani was also sitting there. He said salam to both of
them. And both of them have replied his salam. Then by smiling
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki told Bahauddin Zakaria Multani that “He is
my Farid”. And Hazrat Bahauddin by smiling said “Mashallah.”

6. He could not bear the separation of the Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki

Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki was lived six days in Multan. During his
whole period of stay in Multan, Baba Saheb was greatly
benefitted in the company of Khaja Bakhtiyar Kaki and upon the

Shaikh’s departure from Multan to Delhi, he was also going to


Delhi along with him. After the journey of some miles, the
Sheikh told him as follows.
“ My dear spent some more time in the learning of knowledge
of Zaheri (manifest) and upon its completion come to see him
and by the will of Allah, he will reach his destination.”
Baba Saheb has followed the instructions during his whole
period of stay in Multan and Baba Saheb was greatly benefitted
in the company of Khaja Bakhtiyar Kaki and upon the Shaikh’s
departure from Multan to Delhi, he was also going to Delhi
along with him. After the journey of some miles, the Sheikh told
him as follows.
“ My dear, spent some more time in the learning of knowledge
of Zaheri (manifest) and upon its completion come to see him
and by the will of Allah he will reach to his destination.” I will be
waiting for you there.” And when he has heard the
conversation of the Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki then there were
started tears in his eyes due to his separation. But Baba Saheb
has followed the instruction of his Sheikh and returned back to
Multan and he was engaged in the knowledge of the manifest.

7.The meditation on the mausoleum of the holy prophet

Baba Farid went on the Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah. And upon


performing Hajj he went to Madina and he has visited the
mausoleum of the holy prophet and kissed it there. And on
mausoleum he did meditation and during meditation, he has
seen the holy prophet in his dream and who told him that
“Moulana Farid you have given by Allah area of Punjab. And

you will live in Ajodhan. And you will be buried there. And for
your sake, Allah will give strength to the religion of Islam and
upon you, Allah will open door of mercy.”

8. The visit of the mausoleum of Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Quader


Jilani

During the tour and travels Baba Sahib went to Baghdad. He


has visited the mausoleum of the Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Quader
Jilani. When he reached the mausoleum then at the time door
of the mausoleum was closed. He was told to the servant to
open the door so that he can kiss the grave but the servant did
not open the door and he told him that “You can say salam
from here and if it is accepted then the door will be opened
automatically.” Then he said by standing there salam “Oh
Mahoob Subhani then he has received the reply “Wa Alaikum
salam oh Qutub Subhani” and then at that time door of the
mausoleum was opened automatically. Then he has visited the
mausoleum and kissed the holy grave and he also visited relics
of Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Quader Jilani.

Baba Saheb has followed the instruction during his whole


period of stay in Multan and Baba Saheb was greatly benefitted
in the company of Khaja Bakhtiyar Kaki and upon the Shaikh’s
departure from Multan to Delhi, he was also going to Delhi

along with him. After the journey of some miles, the Sheikh told
him as follows.
“ My dear spent some more time in the learning of knowledge
of Zaheri (manifest) and upon its completion come to see him
and by the will of Allah, he will reach his destination.”
Baba Saheb has followed the instruction

9.The saintliness dress to be wear by that person who can fulfill


its rights

Hazrat Baba Farid told that he was in Baghdad in the service of


Hazrat Shahabuddin Suherwardi. And at that time disciples of
Hazrat Suhabuddin Suherwardi, Shaikh Baha Uddin Zakaria
Multani, Shaikh Jalaluddin Tabrizi, Shaikh Ohuddin Kirmani and
Hazrat Burhanuddin, and other people were present there in
the meeting place. And at that time their conversation about
the saintly dress was in progress and at that time one person
who was a disciple of Shaikh Baha Uddin ZikeraiMultani has
requested him to give saintly dress for him. Shaikh
Shahabuddin Suherwardi told him that today there is an excuse
for him in this matter and so he can come tomorrow then he
will get a saintly dress for him.”
Baba Farid said that he went from there and in the night he was
seen in a dream that angles were taking two darwesh persons
by putting the chains them and they were taking him. That
person asked the angels who is.? And angels told him that
among them one is a spiritual master and another is his

disciple. Peer was given a saintly dress to the disciple but who
has not to fulfill its rights. And be began wandering in the
bazaars. And he has adopted the company of the rulers and he
could not fulfill its rights in this matter. So there was given us
the order to put chains both of them to pull them toward the
fire of hell.
Baba Farid said that when that person wakes up in the morning
and went into the presence of Hazrat Shahabuddin Suherwardi.
He told him by smiling that “ You have seen the condition of
saintly dress-wearing persons and the person who wears it
should fulfill its rights. And to follow the Sunnah of the spiritual
master. And to boycott totally with the persons. And there are
still 70 veils for you. So there is no suitable saintly dress for you.
And if I grant you saintly dress then it will be happening such
event which you have seen in your dream.”

10. The pray of the darwesh for prophet Khizer (A.S.)

Baba Farid told that during his tour and traveling he was
reached in Baghdad. And one day he went to the bank of river
Tigris. And was seen one holy person was praying on the river
by spreading his prayer carpet. When he has finished his prayer
by saying salam then he has put his head in prostration and told
Allah that “Oh Allah prophet Khizer (A.S.) is committing sin. Oh,
Allah gives him divine help of repentance.”
Baba Farid told that still that darwesh person did not raise his
head then Hazrat Khizer (A.S.) came there. And he told him “To
inform which sin he was committed by him. So that he can
repentance from it.” That darwesh told him that “ You have

planted one tree in the jungle and you are taking rest and
comfort under the shed of that tree and it is your saying that
you are helping mankind.”
Baba Farid said that when Hazrat Khizer (A.S.) heard talk of the
darwesh then he was repented for his mistake at the same
time.
Then that darwesh person advised him about leaving of the
world and rights of the world. He told him to live like him. And
then he asked him that “ How you will live.”
He told that him that “He spends life like that if he will give the
wealth of the world and it is said to spend like this and there
will be not done accounting by you. And if you will not accept
then you will be put in the fire of hell. Then I will prefer hell
instead of the wealth of the world. I will like this because Allah
has looked at the wealth of the world with a look of anger. So
for this reason how he will like the wealth of the world. So he
will give preference to the fire of the hell.”
Baba Farid told that “ I went into the presence of that darwesh
and said salam to him. He replied to my salam and told me to
proceed further. And I thought how I can put my feet in the
water and still, there was thought in my heart then there was
opened way for me in the water and by that way, I was reached
near the darwesh. And he paid attention toward me and he said
“Moulana Farid since a period of 40 years was passed away but
I did not sleep on the earth. I could not find peace and comfort
until not spending the sustenance of my fate upon others. The
real darwesh is that person who spends his sustenance of fate
upon other persons.” The Sheikh continued his discussion
further, but the time of evening prayer was started there so he

was praying with the great pious personality of time and after
the prayer, he was watching that there was come two cups of
soup and four big pieces of bread were there from the invisible
source and he asked me to come inside of his small room so I
was entered into it and sat there. There was a great taste in
that soup and bread and such taste and flavor I could not find
again during my entire life. When the night started that
darwesh after performing the Eisha prayer he was engaged in
the supererogatory prayers. I have followed him and he was
finished four Quran in the 2 Rakat of the prayers and after
prayer, he was gone in prostration and began lamentation and
he told in the court of Allah “ Oh Allah I could not do worship
which is worthy of you. Upon which I could say I worshipped
you.”
After the prayer of Fajar that darwesh said me God bye from
there and I have seen that I was standing myself at the bank of
the river and that darwesh was gone from my eyesight. I was in
surprise condition that where that darwesh was gone from
there.?
Upon telling this story of his tour and traveling Baba Sahib told
that “This is a system of darwesh persons and that darwesh did
not have except broken earthen water pot. And when nightfall
then darwesh will fall the water of the pot on the earth. And
day and night account himself and pass a life of solitude and
separation.”

11.The story of accession of the one darwesh

Baba Farid while saying the story of his tour and travel he
said  “Once he traveled to Baghdad and upon reaching there he
began asking with the people about the addresses and
locations of holy personalities of the city. Upon finding one
addressee of the holy person who resides at the bank of the
Tigris river and he went there to visit him in this matter. When
he reached there he was busy in his prayer so he was standing
there. Upon finishing his prayer, he paid respect of salam to
him so he asked me to sit there.” His face was with great grace
and greatness and with a tremendous look so I was not seen
such a shining and graceful face like the moon by the 14th
night. He asked me from I was coming there. I was told from
Ajodhan. He told me “ One who will visit a pious person with
the intention of devoting then anyhow some time he will
become a pious person.” Upon hearing this sentence I put it
down by my head there. He told “ Moulana Farid he has stayed
in this cave for fifty years. He used to eat thorns and litter here
and he belongs to the sons of Junaid of Baghdad. Yesterday the
date was 27th Rajab. If he wants to hear the details of
yesterday night then he will explain to him the details on this
matter.” So most respectable way I told him “Yes”. He told “
Since 30 years he does not know when the nights will fall and
during this period his body did not touch the ground. But
yesterday night he was sleeping on the prayer mat. In the
dream, he was seeing 70,000 trusted angels of Allah from the
first sky come down on the earth and they took his soul to the
sky. When he reached the first sky, he was seeing all angels
were standing there and by looking at the sky, they are reciting

the following Tasbih (glorification of Allah).” (Subhana Zil Mulak


Wa Malakut) . Since their birth, these angels were reciting the
above Tasbih (glorification of Allah). Afterward, his soul was
forwarded beyond this level to the second sky, third sky, fourth
sky, and fifth sky. In all these places where his soul was taken
and he has seen very strange things of Allah and for which he
could not able to explain in this matter. When Arsh (throne)
come before his soul, he was ordered to stop there. All holy
personalities and prophets were present there. My grandfather
Junaid of Baghdad was present thereby lowering his head and
he was very silent there.” There was a divine call in which it was
heard “ Oh: that person”, so he was replied, “ Labaik (being at
your service) my Lord.” Allah told “ Well, you have performed
well the duties of the worship. Now you have awarded your
lofty place in the other world due to the reward of your
worship.” So he was happy in this matter and start prostration
there. He was asked to raise his head and he was asked
whether he can move further in this matter.? No, his ascension
was up to here. If he will make progress, then his status here
will be increased and those who are more perfect than him
have reached near the greatness of the veil.”
Upon hearing this he was proceeding towards Junaid of
Baghdad and put down his head on his feet and he has seen
him there in the condition of prostration. He asked his great
grandfather why he was thereby lowering his head what is the
matter in it? He told “ When he was called here he was worried
about this matter that whether there will any action against
him.? He was doubting in this matter that there was a mistake
done by him. So for this reason he will be blamed in this matter

that his son was made such a mistake. After that, my eyes were
opened .” “So Farid: those who will do the work of Allah, then
He will do his work.” So for this reason the man should perform
his duties with the courage.” He said, “ The person who did not
sleep during the nights will be getting this felicity.”
Then Baba Farid told that “ I was in his service of that pious
person for some period of time and who, after Eisha prayer
used to keep himself in inverted condition and used to tie his
legs and keep himself in the reverse position.”

12.The carelessness of the man

Baba Farid said that “When he was in tour and travel in


Baghdad. And I have met one darwesh person. And who spends
most of his time in the worship of Allah. One time that darwesh
went for the Friday prayer and his looked fall on Muharram
woman (not close relation from women need not go into
hiding). Then at that time darwesh has put his two hands on his
eyes and he said Ya Gafur, Ya Gafur (the forgiver). Upon
performing Friday prayer in the mosque he was reached back
to his house and he said in the court of Allah “Oh Allah these
eyes have seen your site and today these eyes have seen one
unrelated woman. So you deprived them to see un-related.”
Baba Farid said that upon saying this the darwesh has lost the
eyesight of his two eyes. Then he has performed two Rakats as
a prayer of thankfulness of Allah.

When Baba Farid has that with this event there were started
very many tears from his eyes. He told the people of the
meeting that “How the man is a careless person that he looks
unrelated things other than Allah.” Then he recited on couplet
and its meaning and interpretation are as follows.
“The look which has seen your side so it is not allowed it to see
the beauty of the un-related things.”
Baba Farid said that after some of the days of loss of eyesight
then that darwesh heard an undesirable thing so he has put his
fingers in his eyes. And he told in the court of Allah “Oh Allah
these ears which did hear other than your invocation so you
deprived them of the power of the hearing for this reason.”
Baba Farid said that when darwesh has finished his prayer then
the hearing power of his ears was no more with him and he
stood and was prayed two Rakats of prayer of thankfulness of
Allah. And he began saying that now he will leave from world
safely. The person who lost these two senses will be then surely
he will leave from the world safely of his faith in this matter.
Then Baba Sahib has recited one couplet and its meaning and
interpretation are as follows.”Those ears which hear other
things except the name of a friend so it is good for becoming
the deaf.”
When Baba Sahib was told this event then he began weeping
bitterly. And he told that it will be good for him to leave this
world with a wealth of faith so that this wealth which will be
useful in the grave. Then he was seen at the sky side and
prayed as follows.
“Oh, Allah there is the desire of this fakir to leave this world
with the safety of the faith.”

13.The difference of similarity of prophet Adam A.S.’s sons

Hazrat Baba Farid said during my stay in Baghdad he was with


Hazrat Ohuddin Kirmani in the mosque of Kahaf. There were
available people in the meeting and there was discussion
among them that one person is not similar with other than, for
this reason, the method of that person will not be same with
each other. Shaikh Ohud Kirmani said that “ I have heard a
tradition of Hazrat Abdulla Bin Abbas that he was asked with
the prophet of Allah that how prophet Adam A.S. was created.?
And there is no similarity among his sons. And the prophet told
him that “ Allah was created Adam’s face with the earth of
Makkah and his head from the earth of Jerusalem. And his body
from the earth of heaven. And his body parts were created
from Kauser water reservoir (In Islam, the Pond of
Abundance (Arabic: , romanized: Ḥawḍ al-Kawthar) refers to a
pond or river that exists in Paradise). And his two eyes were
created from the earth of the world. And other parts of his
body were created from the earth of Sarandeep. When Hazrat
Adam A.S. was created from the earth of different places so for
this reason there is no similarity among sons of Hazrat Adam
A.S. and if Hazrat Adam A.S. will be created by the earth of one
place then his sons could not be recognized by each other.”

14.The Sunnah of the prophets

Baba Farid said that one time during my stay in Baghdad I went
to the bank of river Tigris. when I have met one old age

darwesh person and that darwesh was a person of condition


and he was busy in the worship of Allah. And upon seeing him I
stayed there. When he has finished the prayer then I said to
him salam. He was given a reply to my salam by mentioning my
name. I was surprised that how he was able to my name. When
he has seen me in the condition of thinking then he told me
that “ His name was informed to him by Allah.”

Baba Farid told that “He was in his company for some days and
when there will come a time of fast-breaking then at that time
one person will come thereby putting food items in the tray on
his head and after some time there were came to some
darwesh persons there. And he will use to wash the hands of
the darwesh persons. And one time I have told him that “Your
honour why he washes our hands by himself then he said that
“It is Sunnah of the prophets that host should wash the hands
of the guests.”

15.The prediction of Hazrat Saifuddin Bakherzi

Baba Farid said that during the period of tour and travel I have
gone into the presence of Hazrat Saifuddin Bakhaerzi. And he
was among the genius holy persons of Bukhara. I said salam to
him and he was given reply of my salam and he said to me to sit
down there. There was a large number of people present in his
meeting place. And he told the person by pointing toward me
that from him a large number of the people will be benefitted
by him. And he was given me his black rag dress. And asked me
to wear it.

Baba Farid said that he was lived in the company of Hazrat


Saifuddin Bakharzi and he was seen there that there were
gathering a large number of people on his eating carpet. And
among them, there will not remain any person hungry. And
even if anybody will come there late time then he will get sure
food there from his kitchen.

16. Meeting with one darwesh in Bukhara

Baba Farid while telling one story of his tour and traveling he
told that he was staying in the mosque of Bukhara and he was
able to know that there is one monastery and in which there is
living one darwesh person. And when I was reached in his
presence then found in him in the condition of majesty and I
have not seen such person of majesty than him. And he was
looking at the side of the sky. And he was getting lost in some
thinking with him. I was waiting for him there and after three
days he has come back in normal condition. And I said salam to
him. And he has given reply of my salam and he said in
regretting style that I have suffered difficulties for waiting for
him and for which he is sorry in this matter.”He told me to sit so
I sat there. Then that darwesh person told me that he is the
sister’s son of Shams Al-Arifin. And I am staying at this place for
a period of 30 years. And even passing of such a long period I
could not get except horror and surprise. And do you know
what is reasonable in this matter?.”

Baba Farid said that I put down my head silently and told him to
say the reason in this matter. And he said that it is a straight

path. And whoever put his feet on this way with good intention
then he will pass away and one who will show a little
carelessness in this matter then he will burn down and will
become ashes.” And afterward, he said that “ When he was
reached into the court of Allah then there were available
70,000 veils there and there was given me the order to enter
into it. When I was entered there and were removed the first
veil and I have seen there angles and them by looking their
eyesight in the upward direction and as per dignity they were
requesting that they want to see the sight of Allah. And in this
way, I have passed from all veils and at every place, I have seen
new station. And when I reached the place of the special veil
then there was heard the invisible call in which it was heard “ In
this way such person can enter there who will leave from the
world and existing things of the world. Then I have told that “ I
have left all things.” Then there was heard an invisible call in
which it was said that “If you have left each and everything
then you belong to Us.”When there was opened my eyes then I
found myself in my place.”
Baba Sahib said That darwesh told me that “One who will leave
all his things on this way then he will become a friend of Allah.”
Baba Sahib told that “ He was prayed with that darwesh
Maghrib prayer and after Maghrib prayer, there were found
two cups of barley and four pieces of bread by invisible source
there. He told me to bring food inside. And we have eaten food
together and which was very much tasty and good that I could
not eat such food before. And still, I found such taste of the
food with me. When I was waking up in the morning then I

could not find that darwesh there and after it, I did not know
where he was gone away from there.?

17.The darwesh person who has having status

In this connection, Sheikh was continuing his discussion further


and he said “ Once he was reached Swaistan in the presence of
Ohud Kirmani and Sheikh embraced me closely and he said, “
It's excellent welcome for his arrival there.” I was sitting in the
shrine building and at that time ten Darwesh persons came
there and they were discussing among themselves about the
miracles and piousness. One person among them was told, “
The person of the miracle should disclose their miracle.” So
others told him he should disclose his miracle first. Sheikh Ohud
Kirmani turned his face towards them and said “ The behavior
of the ruler of Swaistan is not well with him so for this reason
he used to give him trouble daily, but today he will not come
back safely from the field.” At that time upon the comments of
Sheikh one person comes from the outside and he was
informed that today the ruler went to the jungle for hunting
purposes and he was falling down from a horse and his neck
was broken and he was dying there. Upon this, the Darwesh
persons were looking at me and they were asking me to say
something in this matter. So I did meditation in this matter and
after some time raised my head and said: “To look before their
eyes”. So all were seeing before them that they were standing
in the holy Ka’aba (grand mosque) in Makkah and they were
coming back from there. So for this reason all the Darewesh
persons recognized me as a Darwesh person. After this, and

Sheikh Ohud Kirmani told the Darwesh persons that we have


done our work so they should now show their work. Upon
hearing this all Darwesh persons put their heads in their saintly
dresses (Qirqa) and vanished from there.

18.The story of darwesh from Swaistan

Afterward, he said “Once he arrived in Suistan as a traveler


there. There were some Darwesh with him there. There was
one Dervish who was busy in the worship of Allah in the cave
which was situated outside of the city. When he reached there
he was finished reading the Quran and then he busied himself
in the worship there for a long period. Then he started this
narration that “ Oh dear persons he was busy in his travels for a
period of 20 years. Once he reached a holy person who was
used to live in the mountains in the forest area and where even
the birds could not enter there. So there came an idea into his
mind that from where he used to get his food in the jungle
area.? When this thought came into his mind then that holy
person told me, “ Oh: Darwesh you are surprised for the food.
Perhaps you did not believe that Allah is the Sustainer. Allah
says in the holy Quran “ Enna Lahu huwa Razaq quwatal
matin.” “It means Oh: slaves, whether you live in the jungle or
inhabitation you will sure you will get whatever there is written
in your fate” Then he asked to sit there and see the divine work
in this matter. When the holy person said this so I was shivering
in this matter. He asked to me broke the stone which kept him

there. When I broke it and if found that there was one insect in
the stone in its mouth there one green leaf was there.
Afterward, he said “Oh: Darwesh the one who will provide food
to the insect in the stone did He will not give him his food as
per his fate.?” I spent the night with him there. At the time of
breaking fast, one person came there with his two pieces of
bread and some sweets with him and he put these things
before Darwesh and paid respect and left from there. When he
was completing his reading the holy book, then he was asked to
come near him and eat the food and said to me that “ You used
to think that from where I will get food.? See that Allah will
provide sustenance in this way.” At the other day at the
morning time, I was paid respect to him and left from his
place.” So oh: Darwesh the thing which Darwesh told me for
which I was paid full attention for it and he was settled down
there and since the period of 3o years, he is living there and he
is getting his sustenance by divine source and also those who
come there to see him will get sustenance here.”
Afterward, the Sheikh of Islam said “At the evening time myself
and other Darwesh persons have performed the prayer
together there. After the prayer one person came there with
one cloth for eating food provision and he kept it before that
holy person and we have eaten full of our stomach but there
was no decrease in the quantity of food provision. Then that
holy person strikes his leg on the ground so there was a water
spring was appearing. When we drank water, then the cloth of
eating of food provision vanished away from there. When at
the time of the break of day when I bid him goodbye from
there, then I saw one of his hands was not there with him. So I

was surprised in this matter that what is wisdom in this


matter.? When this thought came into my mind, then that holy
person told me that “Oh: dear persons once he went outside
from here before the prayer for the fresh ablution and find one
Dinar was there and my mind desired it to take it. So it was
reached there from the divine world and belongs to
sustenance. When I began to take it, then I heard a divine call in
which it said “Oh: false claimant. Are your trust and Our
promise is this.? Which you have made by Us. And so while
seeing one Dinar you want to take it. May you have forgotten
Us in between this.” When I heard this I was taking one knife
which was lying there and cut the hand with that knife and it
was thrown out of this place. The hand which took anything
without the willingness of Allah is better it should be cut from
the body. So the dear persons since 20 years he could not see
the sky due to shame and feeling of guilt and he used to say
that oh: what he was done in this matter.?”

Afterward, the Sheikh of Islam said “ The brave man is that one
who will not leave a little the way of Allah and he should not
worry for the sustenance.”

Upon saying this event Baba Farid told that “ There will be such
holy persons of Allah and who will never forget the
remembrance of Allah even minute. And they do not do any
work without the willingness of Allah. So There is no doubt that
Allah is Al-Razzaq (The Sustainer) and Allah has taken the

responsibility of substance of them. And they will not


disrespect for getting the sustenance in the world.

19. Giving saintly dress to men of the world is not suitable

Baba Farid said that during the period of tour and travel I have
gone to Syria and where I have found one darwesh person
there. I said salam to him and he was given a reply to salam and
told me to sit there. After some time of my sitting there came
some persons wearing a saintly dress and who were his
disciples. And they have put their turbans on the earth before
him. Then after some time, one darwesh came there and he
began talking with that darwesh person. And after some that
darwesh was asked with all of his disciples that he want to give
saintly dress this person who came there sometime before. And
what is your opinion in this matter,?” And all of them said that “
We will agree whatever will be your opinion in this matter.”
Baba Farid said that then the discussion began on topic about
condition and state and temperament and character of that
person who was going to get saintly dress and that person
without permission began saying bad remarks about condition
and phrases of the other disciples of the darwesh person so
that darwesh who want to give him his saintly dress then he
stood and began praying at that time. And after the prayer, he
told his servants to remove that person from here as he is not
eligible for the saintly dress for him. Because he is a liar and
cunning person. And the saintly dress is not suitable for any
person in the world.

20. His meeting with darwesh person in Ghazni

Once he arrived in Ghazni as a traveler there. I have seen there


one person in the cave and who was a pious person and he was
engaged in the worship of Allah there. I have entered the cave
and said salam to him. He replied to my salam and asked me to
sit there. After some time he told me, “ Oh dear, he was in that
cave for a period of 30 years in the worship of Allah and his
sustenance is received thereby an invisible source there. If he
will get something, then he eats the same and if it is not
available anything, then he will be thankful to Allah in this
matter.”
In short, the prayer time came when he was joined with him
and want to see how we will break the fast. There was a tree of
dates palm was there near that cave. So that pious person
shakes that tree and ten dates were fallen down there. He was
giving me five dates and he himself eats five dates. But there
was no water available there. So he strikes his feet on the
ground and one water spring was appearing there. When he
was leaving from there, then he was paid respect to him at that
time he has given me five gold coins from the inside of his
prayer mat.”

21.The right faith

When I was in Ghazni I have seen there some darwesh people


who were busy in the remembrance of Allah. I stayed with
them. And I was with them in one night and when there was
morning time I went with them to the nearby water reservoir
for ablution. And on that water reservoir, I met one old-aged
darwesh person and whose forehead was full of the light of
worship and mystical exercise. That darwesh asked me to sit
near him and he told me that “Since a long period of time he
has pain in his stomach and I need ablution for many times. So I
stay near this water reservoir for this reason.
Baba Farid said that “ He stayed with that darwesh person and
he has spent one night with him. And that darwesh was busy in
the night in the worship of Allah. And due to the pain of the
stomach, he has been required for a natural call. And he has
done fresh ablution after each and every natural call. And he
has performed two Rakats of supererogatory prayer and tills as
such that he has done many times ablution.
Baba Farid said that when he got down in the water reservoir
for ablution then at that time angel of death was taken away
from his soul from his body there.
When Baba Farid said this then there were passed away tears
from his eyes and he said that “The right faith is that which
should engage the man always in slavery and obedience of
Allah till his time of the death time. And the darwesh should
engage in the slavery and worship of Allah and should not
involve any carelessness.

22.The details of meeting with Shaikh Abdul Wahid Badakshani

Baba Farid during his period of tour and travel he went to


Badakhshan. And in Badakhshan, he got much favor in the
company of Shaikh Abdul Wahid Badakshani.
After this Sheikh said “ Once he went to Badakshan and he was
found there were so many pious personalities were there.
Abdul Wahid, who was a sister’s son of Zanon of Masr was
living there in the cave which was away from the city. When he
comes to know his information then he visited him in the cave.
He found his weak and thin personality and he was standing in
the cave and his one foot was inside and the other foot was
outside of the cave and he was standing there in the condition
of surprise.
He reached near him and conveyed salam to him. He told him”
How did he come there?”. And then he was becoming silent for
three days and no sentence was uttered from his tongue. On
the third day he comes back into the world of consciousness
and he told “ Oh: Farid does not come near to him otherwise he
will be burned down and also do not go far from him otherwise
he will be fascinated.” You please hear my story. He lived in this
cave for a period of 70 years. One day one woman was passed
from here and his heart was desired for her and so wanted to
go outside in this matter. At that time he has heard a divine call
in which it was told “ Oh: claimant of the covenant he used to
say that he was left all unrelated things.” Upon hearing this
divine call, his one foot which was left outside and there was
one foot which was left inside of the cave was there and he has
been in this condition of a surprise since 30 years. There is fear
with him that how he will face Allah on the day of judgment

due to his regret in this matter?.” After this great Sheikh said
“He was spending the night there and at the time of the break
of fasting, he was seeing one tray came there in front of Sheikh
in which there were 10 dates.” The Sheikh told “ He used to
receive daily five dates and today 10 dates were sent here due
to his presence. So come and have eaten these dates and drink
milk and break the fast.” I kissed the earth with respect and
eaten the dates and drank the milk. After this Sheikh was begun
busily in his world of activities. At that time ruler of Badakshan
came there and kissed his feet with respect and he stands
before him with great respect and honour. The Sheikh asked
him what do you want.? So he said “ The ruler of Suwastan was
taking his goods by force. So please give me permission to fight
him in this matter.” Upon hearing the details Sheikh smiled and
took one knife which was lying in front of him and thrown it in
the direction of Suwastan. Upon this event, the ruler left from
there. After some time some people brought his goods with
them and they told the story that the ruler of Suwastan was
sitting on his throne in the court and he was passing royal
orders there and at that time one knife was coming from the
inside of the royal court wall and which hit the ruler so for this
reason his neck was cut and he was falling down on the floor.
After this event, there was a divine call in which it was told “ It
was the hand of Sheikh Abdul Wahid Badakshani who killed the
cruel person and was given salvation to the people from his
cruelties.”
Upon this Sheikh said, “ He lived in his company of the shaikh
for some days and then he was given permission to leave him

from there.” After this, Sheikh was beginning his preparation


for the prayer.

23. there will be a change of fate by the look of the Momin


(faithful) person

Afterward, he said “ Oh: Darwish once he and Sheikh Jalaluddin


Tabrizi were reached to Badayun. One day we were sitting
inside of the porch of the house, then one butter, milk seller
while putting the pot on his head was passed from there and
who was from village Musa, and that village person
were well known for theft and robbery.”
In short when he looked at the face of Sheikh Jalaluddin then
there was effected in his heart. When Sheikh Jalaluddin looked
at him, then he said that “ There are such brave persons are
there in the religion of Islam and he becomes immediately
Muslim on the spot.” He was given his name Ali. He becomes
Muslim and brought 100,000 Jetil local currency of India and
given to him. Sheikh Saheb accepted that amount and asked
him to keep it with him and asked him to spend the amount as
per his advice. From that amount, he used to give some amount
to the needy persons. From that amount, he will use give to a
needy person 40 0r 50 Jetil or some, less or more than these
amounts, but every person will be paid not less than 5 Jitil.
When one Jitil was left, then Ali thought now Sheikh will ask
him to pay 5 Jitil. So from where he will bring 4 more Jitil. When
he was thinking like this one beggar came there and asked for
help from him. He asked him to pay one Jitil. So that person
was surprised in this matter. When Sheikh was leaving from

that place Ali then wants to accompany him. So he told him to


go back. Sheikh tried his best and convinced him in this matter.
But he requested him greatly. But at last, Sheikh told to go back
there is reason in it because this city is in your favour and when
Sheikh was left from that city Ali came back to his place.”

Baba Farid said that “ When Hazrat Jalaluddin left from


Badayun then he has appointed his caliphate in Badayun. And
Ali has requested him to take along with him but he has given
the advice to stay there and engage in the reform work of the
people.

24. It is not correct for the darwesh persons to show the


miracles without the need

Baba Farid said that one time he went to Lahore and he was
there for some period of time. And one day I went to the
surrounding area. And where I met one darwesh person who
used to get his livelihood by agriculture work. And government
officials did not collect land revenue from him. Then one official
was appointed there and who has imposed an order of the
payment land revenue upon him. He told him that “ You are
engaged in the agriculture work but did not pay land revenue
for a long period of time. Now, you pay land revenue or show
any miracle.” So that I could know that you are the holy person
of Allah.
Baba Farid told that that darwesh told him that how he can
show miracles as he is a helpless person and he has nothing
with him.? But the official insisting upon him to show the

miracle. So then there was much pressure on this matter. Then


darwesh told him that “What do you want in this matter.?” The
officer told him that “There is a river out of the city so you show
the miracle by crossing the river without any source.”
That darwesh went upon walking upon river water like earth
and in this way he has crossed the river.
Baba Farid said that when darwesh crossed the river and for
the return journey, he took the source of the boat and he came
in the boat and crossed the river and came back to his
destination. The people have asked the darwesh why he did not
come back by walking on the river water as per his first walk
from one side of the river. The darwesh told them that “ He did
not like this because it may be possible that soul will become
proud in this matter.’

25.Mother's Tragic Death

Hazrat Baba Farid wanted to bring his mother from Khotwal to


stay with him in Ajodhan, so he sent his younger brother Hazrat
Najibuddin Mutawakkil to escort her. Accordingly, the Sheikh
put her on the back of the horse for the journey to Ajodhan
whilst he walked on foot. On the way, they had to pass through
a dangerous jungle full of wild animals. As they were crossing
this jungle, the old lady felt thirsty and Sheikh Najibuddin,
putting her under a shady tree, went in search of water. As he
returned, he found that his mother was not there. He looked
for her desperately but it was in vain. He then returned to
Ajodhan and reported the matter to Baba Farid. A search party

was dispatched to the scene of the mishap but again, the


search was in vain. Baba Farid was now sadly resigned to the
will of God and ordered to arrange for a 'Fateha' ceremony and
the feeding of the poor for the peace of his dear mother's soul.
According to Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia's version of this tragedy,
when Sheikh Najibuddin returned with the search party, he
brought back some human bones in a 'kharita' (bag). Baba Farid
ordered them to be placed upon his musalla (prayer mat) but
when the 'kharita' was opened, there was nothing in it. The
disappearance of the bones from the 'kharita' was taken to be a
divine phenomenon.

26. Moulana Farid you have done much progress

In the book of biographies, it is mentioned that when Baba


Sahib has returned back from the tour and travels, and met
Hazrat Bahuddin Zikeria Multani. And Hazrat Bahuddin Zikeria
Mutani asked him “Upto where your work has reached so far.”
Baba Farid told him that “ If I will give a signal to your seat then
it will fly in the air. Upon saying this seat was beginning flying in
the air. Hazrat Bahuddin has pressed the seat then it came back
in its place. And Hazrat Bahuddin told him that “Moulana Farid
you have done much progress.”

27.His pledge on the holy hand of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki

Baba Farid has come back from his tour and travels and after
living some time in Multan he went on his journey toward
India. So that he can get the aim of his heart. And made his
pledge on the holy hand of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki there. He said
that he was feeling the distance of the journey very long and he
has the desire to reach Delhi as soon as possible. And when I
have reached Delhi and asked the address of the shrine of
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki and when was reached at the gate of the
shrine then I stayed there for some time and when I was
entered into the shrine then I was put my head in the feet of
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki.
Baba Farid told that Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki was accepted my
pledge in the higher Sufi chain of Chistia. The grace which I
found from Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki which I did not find from
another place. He has given me the grace of innermost for a
period of three days and then he told me that “Moulana Farid I
have done my work.”
Baba Farid told that “When Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki accepted my
pledge than at that time my was condition very strange. Then
by telling the event of his pledge he was made the slogan of
intoxicated and was become unconscious. And when he came
in his normal condition then he said that “The persons of Allah
reach this place upon endeavours of many years. This grace is
general. But one who puts his feet in the way with sincerity
then he will be successful. Unless and until if there is not done
his heart dust there will not get such status.”
Baba Farid said that “ There was too much kindness of Hazrat
Bakhtiar Kaki upon me. And he has put his four-end Turkey cap
on my head and paid attention and look of affection. And at

that time in the meeting, there were found Hazrat Qazi


Hammeduddin Nagori, Hazrat Nooruddin Ghazni, Hazrat
Alauddin Kirmani, Hazrat Khaja Mahmood, Hazrat Shaikh
Nizamuddin Almoid, Hazrat Moulana Shamsuddin Turk. He told
me that “The spiritual power of peer should be as such that by
his look of innermost he should clear the filth of the heart of
the disciple. And take away from the heart of the disciple
malice, Jealousy , show, bad-mouthing, backbiting, cheat and
fraud, and other filths from the heart of the disciple. And show
the disciple secrets of knowledge of God. If any peer did not
have such spiritual power then in that case such peer and his
disciple will fall in the pit of disrespect for this reason.”
Baba Farid told that after the blessing of the pledge he was in
the service of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki and was passed the stages of
the mystic way”

28. There is much fondness in the old dress

Baba Farid told that when was become a disciple of Hazrat


Bakhtiar Kaki and when he has given me the grace of innermost
then I was settled down under bridge in one room at the gate
of the western Delhi and I was engaged in the worship and
mystical exercise there. During this period I used to attend
teaching sessions of the Hazrat Badruddin Ghaznavi and one
day he has praised me very much but the people could able to
understand his conversation and at that time the dress on my
body which is in tearing condition and people could not able to
know me there. When I was returned back after the teaching
session then he has given me a new dress. When I wear a new

dress then I could not find fondness in the worship in this new
dress. So I have given a new dress to my brother Hazrat
Najibuddin Mutawakil. And then I was wearing again my old
dress. When I was asked about this matter so I told them that
there is much fondness in the old dress.

29. The getting of the grace of innermost by holy persons of


Chista

In the books of biographies it is mentioned that in those days


Faba Farid was in the company of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki he was
busy in his Chilla (Chilla (Persian: Arabic: both literally "forty") is
a spiritual practice of penance and solitude in Sufism known
mostly in Indian and Persian traditions. ... The word chilla is
derived from the Persian word chehel "forty". Chilla is
commonly performed in a solitary cell called a chilla-khana.)
work. And one-day grand spiritual master Hazrat Khaja
Moinuddin Chisti came to Delhi. And he stayed in the shrine of
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki. And one day Hazrat Moinuddin Chisti has
called in his presence all disciples of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki and he
was given them spiritual grace as per their qualification. When
he has finished his work then he was asked with Hazrat
Bakhtiar Kaki if any of your disciples left in this matter.”? and
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki told him “ Your honour there is one
disciple who is engaged in Chilla work. Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin
told him that “ We will go near and see him.” Then both of
them were reached in his room where he was busy in his Chilla
work. When he was seen Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti want
to stand in his respect but he could not stand due to weakness

and he was put down his head in the feet of the Shaikh of the
time. Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti told to Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki
that since how long you put this young person in the furnace of
endeavours. Come on let us give him the grace of innermost.
Then Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti caught his right hand and
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki caught his left hand and in this way both of
them stood him there. Then Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti was
told that “Oh Allah you accept Moulana Farid and made him
perfect.”
At the same time, there came an invisible call in which it was
said that “We have made him a non-parallel person of time.
And after this Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti was given the
teaching of Isim Azam (Al-mighty’s name) which is being
followed in the Sufi Chistia order. Then all veils of the world
which were no more from him for this reason.
Hazrat Khaja Moinuddin Chisti told to Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki that
“ You have obtained control on such falcon who lives in the
Lote Tree of the Uppermost Limit his station, And this is such
light which will give light to the lineage of the darwesh
persons.”

30. The giving of the certificate of the caliphate

When Baba Farid was received grace of the innermost from


holy persons of Chistia sufi order than at that time Hazrat
Bakhtiar Kaki was given him turban and certificate of the

caliphate and advised him for teaching and preaching Islamic


mission work. Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki was given him certificate of
the caliphate to Baba Farid in the presence of Hazrat Qazi
Hameeduddin Nagori, Moulana Shamsuddin Turk, Hazrat Syed
Nooruddin Ghazni, and Hazrat Nizamuddin Abu Molid. After
receiving the certificate of caliphate Baba Sahib lived in Delhi
for some days and due to the conditions of Delhi he was taken
permission from his spiritual master and he went to Hansi.
When he was asked permission to leave from Hazrat Bakhtiar
Kaki then he was told that “ I know Moulana Farid that you will
return from here.”
Baba Farid told him that “ As per your order this helpless
person will act upon.” Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki told that “There is
written in fate as this that you will not be here at the last time
of my life.” Then Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki was prayed for him. And
he was given him his personal prayer mat, staff and he told him
that your other entrusted things I will give to Qazi
Hameeduddin Nagori so you get from him.
Baba Farid by saying god bye to Delhi and he was left for
Hansvai. And he was lived some period of time there and he
has seen in his dream that his spiritual master Hazrat Bakhtiar
Kaki left this mortal world. He was waking up from a dream and
at the same time, he was proceeding towards Delhi. When he
has reached Delhi then he was able to know that his spiritual
master left this mortal world. This was a great sad event for him
that his spiritual master Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki was no more in
the world. He was prayed in the court of Allah as follows.

“Oh Allah on the seat which was given to me by my spiritual


master and for which give me the courage to fulfill its rights. So
that till my life I can fulfill its rights.”
After this Qazi Hameedudin was given all benedictions of the
holy persons of the Sufi chain of Chistia.Then all disciples of
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki have accepted him officially as chief caliph
of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki.

31.He was settled down in Hansi

Baba Farid was lived some period of time in Delhi after the
death of Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki and due to the rush of the people
in Delhi, he was worried about this matter and so he went again
to live Hansi. And he was lived there in loneliness. In Hansi, very
few people were able to know about him. He was done many
endeavors and mystical exercises during his stay period in Hansi
and gradually his fame of spiritual status began spreading in
Hansi and in its surrounding areas. And the people began
coming into his presence. Now he used to get less time for the
endeavor and mystical exercise and he was upset with the rush
of the people in Hansi. He made the intention to go some other
place from Hansi for this reason. First, he wants to go to Multan
then but afterward, he decided to go to his native village
Kotiwal where people did not know about his condition. He was
appointed his caliph and disciple Jamaluddin in Hansvi for
teaching and preaching work of the people there and he
himself went to Kothiwal village.

32. He made Pakpatam a center of teaching and advise

Baba Farid stayed in Hansai for a period of 12 years and from


there he went to his native village Kothiwal. And upon living
there for some period of time then he was going to
Pakaptam.In Pakpatam there was a large number of non-
Muslim persons along with Muslims there. And he made
Pakpatam a center of teaching and advice and the Muslim
persons of Pakpatam were against the darwesh persons. And
for this reason when he arrived in Pakpatam then he was
stayed out of the city in an unknown place.
From Hansi, he went to Kothiwal village and he was residing
there in the service of his mother. There was very much rush of
the people towards him, but he was in habit of loneliness so he
was worried and upset in this matter and he took permission of
his mother to go Ajodhan and left Khotwal village and by
visiting many places he was settled down in Pakpatam and at
that time this village was very unknown and which was
surrounded by jungle areas and in which full of wild animals
were there. Around this village and up to other large areas
there were villages of non-believers.
One night his spiritual master has given him the instructions in
the dream to settle down in this village and to bring mankind to
the right path of Allah. So Baba Saheb was settled down outside
of Ajodhan village on its western side under an acacia tree and
spread his prayer mat there and was started worshipping of
Allah. Near Ajodhan village there is one brooke where Baba
Saheb used to go there for ablution and

bath and the local people began saying it Pak Lok Ka Patam and
they used to respect this place very much and afterward slowly
this village name became famous and well known as Pakpatam
in the world.

Baba Farid when he arrived in Pakpatam then at that time there


was much influence and affect on Hindu Jogies (ascetic). They
used to afraid the people of the Pakpatam by their magic. And
due to the magic of Jogies, even Muslims were under their
effect.
Baba Farid was living in the out side of Pakpatam near a
graveyard near acacia trees and one under
acacia tree and he has spread rug there and was engaged in the
worship and mystical exercise and at that place, there was no
other body to disturb him.
Still, there were some days that passed away and by that time
fame of the Baba, Sahib was begun spreading in the city of
Pakpatam. And the people began coming in the presence of
Baba Sahib in large numbers.
Baba Sahib when he has seen a rush of the people at this place
so again he decided to go from this place to some other place
as he wants a lonely place.
When he decided to leave that place in Pakpatam then that
night he has seen in a dream
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki in his dream. And who has given him the
order to settle down in Pakpatam and made Pakpatam center
of the work of Islamic mission work of the teaching and
preaching there.

Baba Farid told that “ He made Pakpatam a center of the


Islamic mission work of teaching and preaching of the people
and as per one tradition at that time Baba Saheb’s age was 70
years.

33.To the safety of the people from the trouble of the Hindu
Jogi (ascetic)

One day Baba Farid was sitting under the shed of the acacia
tree and he was advising the people there and at that time one
Hindu woman passed away from there by putting one milk pot
on his head. And he was asked her “What is there in the pot.?”
And she told him that” There is milk in this pot.” And he was
asked with her that” To whom she is carrying the milk.” And
she told that she is carrying this milk for such and such Hindu
Jogi (ascetic) and if we will not supply milk to him then he gave
trouble and atrocities upon us and his disciples use to troubles
to us and take away our animals. He told her that “You
distribute your milk among all the people sitting here then that
Jogi and his disciples will not harm and trouble you. And during
this time one disciple of Hindu Jogi came there and was scolded
the milk selling woman. Then there was fall of one look of the
Baba Sahib upon him and he told him to sit there and disciple
has sat that place. And in this way, all disciples of the Hindu Jogi
came over there sat under the tree of Baba Sahib. So for this
reason Jogi was become angry and told his disciples to leave
the place. But they were not ready to leave that place. Then
Baba Saheb told him that” if you stop your trouble to the
people so I leave your disciples from this place.” And the Hindu

Jogi accepted his instruction. In this way, the people of


Pakpatam got rid of the troubles of Hindu Jogi.

34. The opposition of the local ruler

Due to hard tasks and the endeavors of Baba Saheb, there was
great propagation and progress of Islamic religion in and
around Ajodhan village area and for this reason some persons
due to their jealousy and mean mentality they began their
opposition of Baba Saheb and his works in Ajodhan. Among
these, the Qazi (judge) and the Imam (leader) of the mosque of
Ajodhan village were leading this movement. They had
complained against Baba Saheb with government
representatives and also they began opposing the Sama
(ecstasy) meetings of Baba Saheb. Baba Saheb due to his higher
thinking he did not care about the activities and movements
against himself and for this reason he did not care and not paid
any attention to this matter. Due to not caring about the
activities by Baba Saheb the Qazi (judge) was becoming very
angry and upset in this matter and he began new conspiracies
against Baba Saheb. He was trying to get Fatwa (legal opinion)
against Baba Saheb from the learned persons of Multan. He
wrote his letters to the learned persons of Multan that “There
is one learned person is here who listens to Qawwali (chorister)
and organized Sama (ecstasy) meetings “ and he asked their
Fatwa (legal opinion) in this matter. The learned persons were
asked the Qazi (judge) the name of that person in this matter so
he was informed Baba Saheb’s name. Upon receiving the Baba

Saheb’s name they were refused to issue a Fatwa (legal


opinion) against Baba Saheb and they have
informed him that “He was written the name of a great
Darwesh person who is a perfect follower of the Islamic Shariah
(law) and we are helpless in this matter to pass any Fatwa (legal
opinion) against him for this reason.”
Upon the result of the above plot, the Qazi (judge) was very
upset and angry in this matter so he tried his other plot to kill
Baba Saheb with a help of one greedy and tramp person and
who was an un-lawful Qalender (dauntless) person. So that
person was visited Baba Saheb’s resident while hiding a sharp
dagger under his waist to kill him. At that time Baba Saheb was
busy in the worship of Allah and he was in prostration and with
him, only Khaja Nizamuddin Auliya was present there. In
prostration Baba, Sheb told him “Is there any person is there?.
to The leader of Sufi persons replied him “ Here his slave
Nizamuddin is present alone here.’’Baba Saheb told him “ There
is one Qalendar (dauntless) in the shrine building is present
who is wearing
white earrings in his ears.” So Nizamuddin answered him “Yes”.
In this matter, then Baba Saheb told him “In his waist there is
dagger is hidden and he comes to kill him so asked him not to
spoil his next world and to leave the shrine building.” Due to
this conversation there was a severe terror on the Qalander
(dauntless) and he ran from there immediately and went to see
the Qazi (judge) and told him which is as follows “ He could not
able to kill such a great pious man of Allah.”

35. The bad result of the Qazi of Pakpatam

Then the Qazi (judge) Adullla of Pak Patan who was stubborn
and as well as he was a worldly person and due to his pride
started insult in his respect and began taking interest in new
schemes of conspiracy against Baba Saheb with the help of
Patwari (village revenue officer) and the Patwari started to
cause hardships to the sons of Baba Saheb. When the people
have informed his atrocities then he told them to be patient in
this matter may Allah give him guidance.
One day Imam(An imam is a Muslim religious leader. If you're
curious about a mosque, go talk to the imam, the person who
leads the prayers. ... The literal meaning of imam in Arabic is
"one who proceeds," from amma, "to go before.") of the
mosque was done mistake in the prayer and after the finish of
the prayer, Baba Sahib told the Imam in the mosque as you did
such and such mistake in the prayer so you repeat the prayer
otherwise your prayer will be not accepted but the Imam did
not agree upon his instruction. But he told that he did not
commit any mistake in the prayer and insisting that he will not
repeat his prayer. Upon the conversation of the Baba Sahib, the
people have asked the Imam to repeat the prayer and for this
reason, the Imam of the mosque has followed Baba Saheb’s
instruction. And the Qazi has disrespected Baba Sahib and he
told that “ From where Allah has sent such useless persons
here.”
But the disciple of Baba Farid did not bear the insult of the Qazi
and he told them to have patience in this matter and not to

reply to Qazi as a matter of fact even Baba Farid did not like the
remarks of the Qazi. Baba Sahib told his disciples that “If any
person give trouble to other person and if the oppressed
person bear the trouble and if the oppressed will reply in this
matter which is legal against the cruel person.”
In few days upon above saying
of the Baba Sahib, there was paralysis attacked upon Qazi
Abdulla and his mouth was bend due to this disease. And Qazi
has sent one goat, sugar, and barley in his presence as an
offering and repented for his mistake.

When the atrocities were reached a high level so the Baba


Saheb’s sons and complained about Patwari with Baba Saheb
so he came into the position of Jalal
(majesty) and put his staff on the earth: and told: “He will not
disturb you.” At that time severe pain in the stomach of the
Patwari was started and he began thinking about his atrocities
on the sons of Baba Saheb. So he asked the person to take him
to Baba Saheb so the person took him while putting him in his
cot but he was dying on the way. Due, to the help of Allah all
conspiracies of the Qazi (judge), became a failure, and all his
enemies and opposite persons were gone in the darkness and
they were stopped their activities.
He told him that “Since a long period of time you are saying
wrong things about me but I have adopted patience and I have
taken prediction from the holy Quran and got the story of the
prophet Noah (A.S.) in which Allah told him that “Your son is
not from your family members and no doubt his deed is not
pious on the right path.”

Upon saying of the Baba Farid, Qazi Abdullah was taken from
there by his relatives and he died on the way and he was met
his end in this way.

36. The magic was done upon him by the son of the
Shahab magician

In the Pakpatam there was done magic upon Baba Farid and
due to magic work, there was stopped his food and drink. There
was done inspection by many doctors but there was not the
known name of the illness. And when the illness was increased
too much then he has asked his disciples to pray in his favour
for recovery of the illness.
One day his son Shaikh Baderudidn Sulaiman was heard one
invisible call at the time of the last part of the night that the
magic was done upon him by the son of the Shahab magician.
Shahabuddin was a famous magician who was lived in
Pakpatam. But he was died after few days upon coming of the
Baba Farid in the Pakpatam. But his son proved his right
successor in his work and who will not ignore any chance of
causing trouble to the people in Pakpatam.

Shaikh Badruddin Sulaiman has asked the caller what is a


remedy in this matter.? it was told to him that “ You remember
these phrases and recite on the grave of Shahab magician.”
“ Oh, a person living in the grave your son did magic and try to
give trouble. And if he will not stop it then prohibit him in this
matter. And if you do not prohibit him whoever will be with him
then he

will be in our reach.”


Shaikh Badruddin Sulaiman told this event to Hazrat
Nizamuddin Auliya in the morning time. And this matter was
informed to Baba Farid. He told Baba Nizamuddin to go on the
grave of Shahab and recite these phrases there.
When
Hazrat Nizamuddin recited the above phrases on the grave of
the Shahab then he was touched on the head side of the
Shahab and he found some earth there. And when he was
removed earth then he found one effigy of the flour. And there
were many pins were fixed in it. And which tied firmly by the
hairs of the horse.
Hazrat Nizamuddin went by an effigy in his hand in the service
of Baba Farid. And Baba Farid has given him an order to take
the pin one by one. And when all pins were removed one by
one then Baba Farid was recovered completely. He was given
an order to put effigy, pins, and hairs of the horse in the
running river water.
When the local ruler was able to know this event then he was
given an order to arrest and to kill the son of the Shahab. Baba
Sahib told at that time that “He was forgiven him”. Then the
son of Shahab was fallen to the feet of Baba Farid and he has
accepted the Islamic religion and repented in this matter and
he also became his disciple.

37.Washing of the clothes by Khaja Ahmed Sewastani

Khaja Ahmed Sewastani told that one time Baba Farid has given
him clothes for washing. And I was going to the river bank by
taking clothes there and upon washing the clothes came back in
the presence of Baba Farid and given to him.
Khaja Ahmed Sewastani told that “ Upon seeing the clothes
Baba Farid told me that go and wash the clothes again. And I
was surprised but silent that there may be some aspect of
wisdom in this matter in his saying.
Khaja Ahmed Sewastani told that he was thought about Baba
Farid’s order and was able to remember that I did do ablution
after washing the clothes instead of ablution before washing
the clothes. So I have done ablution and performed two Rakats
supererogatory prayers then I washed the clothes again with
much careful attention. And come back in his presence with the
clothes.

Khaja Ahmed Sewastani told that “Upon seeing the clothes


Baba Farid told me that go and wash the clothes again. And I
was surprised
but followed manners and thought that there may be some
mistake committed by me and went to the river to wash the
clothes again there.”Then I began thinking that the second time
I was put the clothes on the tree branches so there some birds
spread filth on the clothes. So for this reason Baba Sahib was
given an order for me to wash clothes again.
Khaja Ahmed Sewastani told that I have washed the clothes
with care and attention this time and spread the clothes in the
jungle for drying there. When clothes were dried then I come
back in the presence of Baba Farid and given him the clothes to

his hands. And this time he did not say anything thing and he
was taken the clothes.

38. The funeral prayer in absentia of Hazrat Zikeria Multani

Baba Farid has much love with Hazrat Zikeria Multani and there
was a relation of respect among both of them. When Hazrat
Zikeria Multani died in Multan then at that time Baba Sahib was
engaged in meditation in Pakpatam. And during the meditation,
he became unconscious and when there was too much delay
for his recovery then servants have put the saintly dress of
Hazrat Bakhtiar Kaki upon him. And upon this, he was coming
back in normal condition. Upon coming back in the normal
condition he told Shaikh Ahmed Balqi that today brother Hazrat
Zikeria Multani died. And I have seen angels are getting down
from the sky in the direction of Multan. And they have taken
with them Hazrat Zikeria Multani and there was with them
Hazrat Shahabuddin Suherwardi. Come on we all together
perform his funeral prayer in absentia. And pray for his higher
status and position.

39. The look has changed everything

There is tradition with Hazrat Nizamuddin and he told me that


one philosopher person and his name was Ziauddin he used to
give lesson under minaret of Delhi. And he told that once time
he went in the service of Baba Farid. And at that time I do not
have knowledge of manifest as well as innermost. And he told

me what is meaning of taftiahl manat?” and in the terms of


Sufism, taftiahl manat is called ecstasy and condition.?
Hazrat Nizamuddin told the philosopher was silent at that time.
As this was one special issue and for this, I do not knowledge in
this matter. Then Baba Sahib looked at me with kindness then
for this reason I have explained the issue and I have told him all
aspects of incorrect shapes and given details in this matter.

40.The saying by him which was proved right

Baba Farid’s brother and disciple Hazrat Najibuddin Mutwakil


were Imam in one mosque in Delhi. This mosque was built by
one holy person and his name was Atem. When there was held
marriage of this holy person’s daughter then he was spent a
huge amount on this function. Shaikh Najib told him that
person is Momen (faithful ) one who has more love of Allah
than this children. And if you spent double amount on the way
of Allah than the marriage expenses of your daughter then you
will be called Momen.”
Upon hearing the conversation of Shaikh Najib that pious
person removed him from the post of Imam (mam (/ɪˈmɑːm/;
Arabic: ‫ إم‬imām; plural: aʼimmah) is an Islamic leadership
position. It is most commonly used as the title of a worship
leader of a mosque and Muslim community among Sunni
Muslims.) of his mosque. Then he went to Pakpatam and told
Baba Farid all details then Baba Sahib recited a verse of Baqara
and its translation and interpretation are as follows.

“ We will cancel any verse or leave it then its place brings better
or at least minimum same like that verse.” Then he has said
that “ There is no matter if Atem has gone then
Atem will come. So it was happened like that as per his saying
in few days one king his name was Atem came and he did not
leave any deficiency in the service of the family of the Faridia.

41. Allah enabled me to speak saying of the reality

In the presence of Baba Sahib one person came and be


began weeping and then by holding his edge of the shirt, he
told that he has taken his ox from him. When he has seen his
lamentation then he told him “To go such and such place where
you will find your lost ox there.” When that person went to the
place shown and found his lost ox there. The persons have
asked him that “ How do you know that his ox is found in such
and such place.?” Then he told that “ He was approached Allah
and paid attention to Him said that “Oh Allah enable me to
speak the saying of the reality from the tongue in this matter.”

42. The blessing of saintly dress of Chistia Sufi order

Hazrat Nizamuddin told that “Baba Farid was given me his


special saintly dress. And that saintly dress belonged to higher
grade Sufi chain of Chistia and which I have with me.” Upon
obtaining this saintly dress I went on a journey to Delhi from

Pakpatam and there was one friend with me. During the
journey, there was one jungle in which robbers used to loot the
travelers. At that time rain falling was started. And we have
stayed under the shed of one tree there. There was came
thought into my mind that if the robbers will snatch my special
saintly dress so in that condition I will not go to any city or place
of habitation and will settle down in any jungle place for this
reason. Still, there was a thought in my heart that the robbers
were passed away before us and not doing any damage to us.
And in this way due to the sake of the saintly dress of the Sufi
chain of Chistia we were safe and secure in the jungle area from
the robbers.

43. The guidance of the disciple by way of dream

Hazrat Nizamuddin told that there was one disciple of Baba


Farid in the royal army and his name was Mohammed Shah.
And he used to say that when there will be the intention of
doing any work then he will see his spiritual master in the
dream. And from his condition seen in the dream and I will take
its prediction of the dream in this matter.
Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya said that “ Once Mohammed Shah
want to go India. And in the night he was seen in the dream
that his spiritual master and who was saying to him come to
Pakpatam.When he was waking up from a dream and he was
taken a prediction from his dream that his spiritual master is
asking him to come to Pakapatam. So he went toward
Pakpatam

and during this journey, he has a large number of favours and


benefits.

44. The award of the golden brick

The chorister of the shrine Hasan went into the presence of


Baba Farid and told him that “There is a marriage of his
daughter and there are very many expenses so something may
be given to him so that for this there will be easiness to him in
this matter.” Baba Sahib told him that “ He is a darwesh person
and what is work of wealth and money with darwesh
person.”Hasan chorister continued his insisting on this matter
and told him that “ Whatever he will give by him which will be
more than all treasures for him”. Then Baba Sahib pointed him
to one brick which was laying there and asked him to take and
go from there. When he has lifted that brick and found it was
made of gold. So he thanked him and went away from there.

45. The lost son has found

One woman came by weeping in the service of Baba Farid


and told him that her son was lost and she has searched him
everywhere but could not find him so he should pray in this
matter so that she can find her lost son. He has done
meditation after some time and told her that you go back to
your house as your son was returned to the house. That woman
went back to her house and she was seen his lost son in the

house and she asked him where you were.?” And how do you
come back here again.?” The boy told that he was at the bank
of the river and he was weeping there due to separation at that
place. And suddenly I have seen one holy person who comes
out of the river water. And he has asked me the reason for my
weeping there and when I have told him all details then he told
me to close my eyes. And I have closed my eyes and when I
have opened my eyes then I was found myself in the house.”

46. The cleaning work in the Jerusalem mosque

One time some darwesh persons came to Pakpatam from


Jerusalem. Among them, one darwesh was looking at him
carefully. And after some time he told him that “ I have seen
you in the work of clean in Jerusalem. And I have asked you
there what is your name? and you have told me that I am
Fariduddin.”
Baba Farid upon hearing his conversation told him that “You
are saying right but perhaps you have forgotten your promise
that you did not say this matter to anybody. And today you
have broken your promise.” Upon hearing Baba Farid’s
conversation that darwesh was regretted his mistake in this
matter.

47. The earth clod changed into gold

One time one widow woman went in the service of Baba


Farid and she told him that “I have three daughters who are
adults and I want to marry them but I do not have anything for
giving dowry in the marriage. I came here with great hope for
your help. And I hope that you will not disappoint me in this
matter.” Upon her much insisting he told her to bring one earth
clod from there. And that woman brought one earth clod and
given to him. And he was recited three times verse Iqlas then
that earthen clod was turned into gold. That woman was
surprised to see Baba Farid’s miracle. She went to her house
and she taken bath and put there some fragrance and taken
one earthen clod and recited upon it three times verse Iqlas but
that earthen clod did not change into gold and but it did not
happen such thing. That woman recited verse Iqlas a thousand
times and was blown on the earthen clod but it was not
changed into gold. So in worrying condition, he went to see
Baba Farid. And she told him that you have recited three-time
and earthen clod was changed into gold but I have recited verse
Iqlas many times but earthen clod was not changed into gold.
He told her that “ There is tongue in your mouth in which there
is no sincerity.”

48. The effect of the company

Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya used to say that “When he was


made the pledge on the hands of Hazrat Baba Farid then he
used to say always that to agree on friends and foes together.
And he insists and give importance to fulfilling the rights of
human beings.

Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya said that “He was taken one book
from one person for reading and which was lost by him. Also, I
was taken 20 chitals from one person. When I was heard many
time times saying of Baba Farid then I was able to know that he
was aware of the condition of my heart. I thought that when I
will go to Delhi then I will fulfill the rights of the above persons.
Then the time came that I was reached Delhi. But at that time I
did not have that book and 20 chitals with me to give that
person from whom I have bought cloth for me. One day came
I0 chitals with me and I went to the house of that person and
called him then he came out of his house. I told him that I am
not in a position to pay your amount of 20 chitals in one time
and I have ten chitals with me so you take this money. And if
there will be the will of Allah I will pay the balance amount soon
to you.”

Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya said that upon hearing my


conversation he told that “ You have returned back from the
holy spiritual master. So you pay me 10 chitals and for balance
amount, I will forgive for you.”

Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya said that” Then he went to see


that person from whom he has taken the book for reading. And
which was lost by me. And I told him that I will try to obtain
that book and will give you a copy of that book.” Upon hearing
my conversation he told me that “This is the effect of the place
from where you have come back here. And then he was
forgiven me for that book.”

49. He was able to know the aim of your heart

One person and his name was Ali Makki who went in the
surrounding area of Pakpatam as per the order of Baba Farid.
And he was stayed there and also his friends stayed there but
he came in the service of Baba Farid. Baba Sahib told him that “
You have left from me yesterday and now come back again in
my presence.” He told him that “ His friends are staying in the
surrounding area of Pakpatam and still my friends are there.
But I have back in your presence.” And he told him “ Welcome”.
The next night he went in the presence of his friends. And one
day he stayed with his friends and he came again in the
presence of Baba Sahib. Then he was asked reason in this
matter then he was told the same answer which he was given
earlier to him. He told him one more time “Wel-come.” And
that person the next night went to the camp of his friends in
the surrounding area of Pakpatam. When the daybreak he
came again in the presence of Baba Farid. And he told his
servant to give him two pieces of bread. And servants have
given him two pieces of bread. Then he left from him and then
he did not come back in the presence of Baba Sahib again.”

50. The blessing of the verse Muzammil

Hazrat Khaja Nizamuddin told that Hazrat Badruddin


Ishaque told me this event that “One time he and Baba Sahib

both were in the period of the journey. And during our journey,
we have reached the bank of one river. And at that place, there
was no boat to cross the river. Then he told me to hold his
wooden sandals in my hand. And we were near the water then
he told me that to close my eyes. So I have closed my eyes. And
we have crossed the river. There was prevailed upon me horror
so I could not ask within this matter.
Then upon getting the chance I have asked him in this
matter. Then he told me that “I have recited verse Muzzamil
and there was created a way for us in the river.”
