COLLEGE PROJECTS
Power Management in Wireless Sensor Networks June 2017 – April
2018
 Developed a simple but super effective way to increase the overall lifetime of the Wireless Sensor
Networks.
 Wireless Sensor Networks are huge networks of power limited sensing devices called sensors. These
sensors sense and transmit data to the base station for further analysis.
 As the battery of these sensors are limited, the overall lifetime of the Wireless Sensor Network is also
limited
 Our project thus aimed at increasing the overall lifetime of the network. We did this via a simple idea of
heterogeneity.
 The LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering based Hierarchy) protocol is a homogeneous protocol.
Which basically means that all the sensors have an equal amount of battery life.
 We used basic heterogeneity mechanism in the same protocol, wherein we gave some extra battery to 10%
of the sensors in the system.
 We tabulated all this in the MATLAB code and calculated that by adding the heterogeneity in the sensor
nodes we doubled the lifetime of the network and thus achieved our goal.

Smart Canteen Jan 2017 – April

2017
 Developed a smart food ordering system to help the students in the college canteen during rush hours.
 We used the students I-Card which had the RFID cards and synced them with the centralized system.
 We then made a wallet system for students to load money into the card and the order for their food via the
central machine which was based on the 8051 Microcontroller.
 The menu was seen on the central machine and the order was sent to the canteen owner as an SMS via the
GSM module so that the canteen owner can keep the order ready for the student once he comes during the
break time.

Bicycle USB Charger June 2016 – Nov

2016
 Created a simple setup to use the mechanical energy of the bicycle and convert it into electrical energy to
charge a mobile.
 Used the dynamo to convert the mechanical energy of the rotation of wheel into electrical energy.
 Then used a rectifier circuit along with a buck converter to convert the AC to DC and further to get the
desired voltage and current requirements. The electricity generated of 5V and 1A was used to charge the
mobile phone.
