AUDIENCE ANALYSIS

6 members were selected in group A and their names include

* Josep Uko John

* Agbo Mmaduabuchukwu

* Uwadoka Amarachi

* Adiatu Lawrence

* Ituma Ogochukwu

* Opoke Amarachi

They visited Anyimchukwu/ Ezzamgbo community in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi
state on 2nd May,2021 which they were able to meet the village catechist which also holds the
position of the village youth leader or president. After proper introduction was done by the
audience analysts,they discussed their aim of visiting which concerns the major problems the
village farmers were struggling with in their farms based on the crops they grow and the youth
president was excited and appreciated their coming. The message was passed to the villagers by
the audience analysts and the information gathered about the problems and challenges they
have been encountering in their various farming activities,it was discovered that the major
challenges are as follows:

* Pest and disease infestation on maize and cassava

* Lack or insufficient funds

* Low productivity

After evaluating the major challenges and problems faced by these farmers,the audience
analysts assure the farmers that a solution will be found for their problems

The audience analysts returned and gave information about the success of the analysis carried
out in Anyimchukwu/Ezzamgbo village to our lecturers in the person of Mr.Sikiru Ibrahim and
Rev.Dr. Izuogu Chibuzo on the report gotten from the village. The lecturers assigned the
audience analysts to profer the solutions to the pest and diseases infestation on cassava and
maize,the factors affecting the productivity and yield of cassava and maize and the climatic
factors affecting cassava and maize production.

Other activities that would make the outreach lively were organized . All students in group A
were divided into sub-groups for the various group that would lit the outreach. The groups
includes

* Drama group
* Audience Analysis

* Presenters and interpreters. E.t.c

On Wednesday 30th June, 2021, the outreach programme on Agricultural Extension was help in
Anyimchukwu/Ezzamgbo village in Ikwo local government area,Ebonyi state.

THEME AND TOPiC OF THE OUTREACH

The theme of the program was "CASSAVA AND MAIZE, PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL"

In the course of the presentation,the villagers were taught and educated on the various kinds of
pest and disease that tends to attack their cassava and maize on both the leaves,stem and the
root. Example of those diseases may include cassava meal bug,brown spot, maize stalkborer
e.t.c. They were also taught on the control measures on the pest and diseases of cassava and
maize which includes

* Chemical control such as pesticides and insecticide application

* Cultural control such as the use of neem leaf and potash

* Crop technique such as crop rotation,but fallowing and mixed cropping.

These control measures were introduced to the villagers to cub the spread, problems and
challenges of pest and diseases manifestation in their crop cultivation. The application of
fertilizer, method of application, weed control, plant spacing and depth and different methods
of planting were all shown to the farmers to enable them get maximum output and yield of their
crops

IMPORTANCE OF THE OUTREACH

The outreach were very helpful to the farmers because various means of protecting and
controlling pest and disease attack to their maize and cassava were taught and enlighten their
knowledge more various farming methods. The outreach was also helpful to the students
because they were able to learn and perfect their public speaking as well as showcasing talents
required to be an extension agent in the future.

FEEDBACK
At the end of the programme or presentation,the village chairman spoke on behalf of the
villagers which they appreciated our coming as a sign of a good thing to them and their farms.
Lots of questions regarding their farms and farming activities were asked which satisfied
responses were given to them by our lecturers and our presenters.

STRENGTH

Maximum cooperation between the host community and the extension agents as well as the
students made the outreach programme enjoyable and successful.

WEAKNESS

From my own point of view, I couldn't see any weakness on the outreach rather it was just a
successful one which was achieved by teamwork.

CHALLENGES

The means of transportation from the school premises to the host community as well as
mobility of the instruments and equipments required for a successful outreach was one of the
major challenges. Also the villagers were not punctual with time which made us to delay more
than expected.

The teaching methods used in the outreach programme may include

* Discussion method

* Audiovisual method
