Preservation is the process of preparing food for future
consumption by preventing its spoilage. The proper storage and
preparation of food for future use has been a major concern not
only of the family but also of the food industry. Food preservation
is the answer to the problem of inadequate food supply as well as
the need for nutritious and palatable meals for the family.
How are you going to keep food’s freshness so that you can still
cook it later on? That is where food preservation comes in. The
goal of food preservation is the prevention of spoilage. Food
preservation techniques can prevent spoilage and retain the
nutritive value natural color and texture of the food It is also very
important to maintain the sanitation of food. Fish, meat, fruits,
and vegetable could be preserved and there are many ways of
food preservation different ways or methods of food preservation.

E. Discussing new We will discuss each of the method of food preservation.

temperature to prolong their freshness. Examples are eggs, milk,
fruits, and vegetables.
Sugar preservation is also common and this is what we do with

Jam is when the fruit is mashed and cooked with sugar. while Jelly
is when clear fruit juice is cooked with sugar which eventually
turns into a jelly.
Smoking. this is a method in which food items such as cured
meats or fish is exposed to smoke not only to preserve them but
also to add flavor and color. Examples are tapa, longganisa, and
ham.
Curing is also one of the basic methods of food preservation and it
is done by soaking or injecting meat with preservatives sugar salt
and vinegar solution. These are done to longganisa and tocino.
Number eight is pickling. It is adding pickling solution which
contains a vinegar salt and sugar to vegetables like grated green
papaya, ginger, carrots, onion, and bell pepper.
Canning is a method in which process food is placed and filled in
airtight cans. Examples are sardines, tomato sauce, and pineapple
sauce. Lastly, the fermentation.
Fermentation is the breakdown of carbs like starch and sugar by
bacteria and yeast and an ancient technique of preserving food.
Common fermented foods include kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir,
tempeh, kombucha, and yogurt.
