GULAYAN SA PAARALAN REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER

SCHOOL YEAR 2020 – 2021

ACTIVITIES: GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROGRAM

GULAYAN SA TAHANAN PROGRAM

RATIONALE: The Department of Education

(DepEd) will sustain the
implementation of the vegetable
production program in all public
schools nationwide.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones,

in DepEd Memorandum No. 95 series
of 2018,said that the DepEd –
through the Leaner Support Services
– School Health Division (BLSS-SHD)
– sustains the implementation of the
“Gulayan sa Paaralan” (GPP) in
public elementary and secondary
schools nationwide to aid the
following issues:

1. to address malnutrition, and;

2. to promote vegetable
production and consumption
among school children.

INTRODUCTION: Gulayan sa Tahanan is an extended

activity/ program of the Department
of Education to Brigada Eskwela
2020. This program is initiated to
promote the idea of vegetable
gardening at home to make the stay
at home more productive and make a
self-sustainable surrounding for a
community. Teachers, as the core
implementers, are strongly
encouraged to partake in the
program and to boost encouragement
towards the members of the
community in the midst of Covid-19
Pandemic. Teachers embedded to
raise different vegetable crops in
their backyards be it through direct
soil planting or container-based
planting.
We also prepare the Gulayan sa
Paaralan Program Garden with help
of teachers and our school personnel
in planting and maintaining our

school garden. We are also starting

harvesting different vegetables and
fruits. It is our teachers’ fruit of
labour in the success of this
program. The harvested vegetables
helps a lots in our daily living by
lessening the cost of buying
vegetables.
OBJECTIVES: This activity aims to:
1. to promote vegetable
production at home;
2. to establish and maintain
gardens as ready food source
of vegetables in sustaining the
daily needs; and
3. to include among the learners
and the community the values
of gardening, good health, love
of labor and caring for others.

GENERAL COMMENTS AND ISSUES The following are the challenges

ENCOUNTERED encountered; sustaining the garden;
physical factors such as poor soil
quality and space;; too much heat
from the sun; different pest that
damages the crops; lack of planting
spaces.

RECOMMENDATIONS: The program needs to be sustain and

introduction of urban gardening by
using used containers for planting
and also they can use organic
fertilizer to sustain their vegetables
plants.
