understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to matters of immediate interest (e.g. personal data, family, shopping, local geography, employment); communicate in simple and everyday tasks that require a simple and direct exchange on familiar and everyday issues. Describe in simple terms aspects of own background, immediate environment and issues related to various needs. Working method Students work on different skills (writing, reading, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation) simultaneously. Testing and assessment The student passes this course if he/she:
handed in the writing assignments (after each chapter) on time and in two versions; passed the intermediate chapter tests; has completed the Cambridge Key English Test (level A2) at the end of language course 2 with a score of 70% or higher. Presence For this subject, the attendance requirements apply as described on Brightspace page TST-General under Assessment. Exemption possibilities If the result of the level test shows a score higher than B1 level, the student will be exempted from the English subject. If a student with an exemption needs the subject English in order to be admitted to the programme, then the student must participate in the concluding Cambridge Preliminary English Test (level B1) before the start of block 3. If the score is lower than B1, there are no exemption possibilities and the student takes part in the English language courses in Language Route 2 (A1+-A2) or the Switching Year (from A2-B1). Opportunities to retake It is possible to retake the chapter tests a maximum of two times. It is possible to retake (parts of) the Cambridge exam once.
