Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module, the students shall be able to:
1. Describe the concepts of nation, nationalism, nation building and
citizenship;
2. Recognize the roles of an individual as a citizen in a society and nation;
and
3. Manifest cultural sensitivities, especially in their interaction with other
members of the society.
Outline of Topics
1. Basic concepts of Nation, Nationalism and Nation-building. (LO 1)
2. Basic concepts of Citizenship (rights, privileges and duties). (LO 2)
3. Appreciation of Filipino citizenship and nationalism. (LO 2)
4. Understanding the vital role of a Filipino citizen who is also a Tatak UP
student in shaping and building the Filipino nation. (LO 2)
5. Introduction to cultural diversity, sensitivity and competence in Philippine
society and its importance to citizenship training. (LO 3)

Assessment Activities
Summative Assessment: Reflection Paper or Creative Output

Choose from either of the following: (a) creative output, OR (b) reflection paper.
In both options, your output must address or answer the following guide questions
(next slide). You may use either English or Filipino in expressing yourself.

(a) If you choose to make a creative output, provide a brief write-up


(one-paragraph at most) explaining your work in relation to the topic.
(b) If you choose to write a reflection paper, it should not exceed 500 words.

● What are nation and nationalism, and how can these contribute to nation-building?
● What makes a Filipino a Filipino?
● In your opinion, what is the most pressing issue on cultural sensitivity and diversity
and what can you, as a Filipino citizen and a TATAK UP student, do to help address
this?
● Is Nationalism still alive in Filipinos?

Again these are to be used as guides for your own reflections as you work on your
assessment. We are more interested in your thoughts and understanding about the topic.
