MIDTERM TEST

Question 1:
The reasons given by Linh Nguyễn for wanting to post for a position in another department are:
1. Her hard work did not receive enough merit even though she got praised a lot by Phuong =>
This point is Linh’s opinion and it is true for her
2. A position in another department offer a better income than Linh’s current position => This
reason is accurate because the grade of that position was 2 points higher than her current job.
3. Her friend said that the workload in that position is much lighter than her current position =>
This is debatable because what she heard from her friend might not be accurate while the
difference of 2 points between two jobs shows that it require higher level of skills and
responsibity.
4. Linh want to have a job with higher salary and lighter workload => This is both accurate and
debatable, she will have higher pay in that position but the workload might not be lighter.
Question 2:
In this case, Phuong should advise Linh before getting the job. Firstly, Phuong should tell Linh to do
infomative research about the job. For example, meeting people in that department and ask them
questions. Secondly, she needs to think about what she wants in a job. Finally, Phuong should explain
to Linh that the jobs are graded differently because there are differences in the jobs. She should caution
Linh that what she heard from her friend can be misleading and she should look at the executive
secretary position in lerms of levels of skills and accountability, not just in terms of payment and
workload differences.
Question 3:
Linh’s complained with a slight anger due to an inadequate recognition of her hard work. Phuong
should work to communicate her appreciation for Linh’s contributions. And Phuong should advise
Linh to send a job reevaluation request.
