Chapter one to four points out on Criticism; this unit

provides a general orientation to critical thinking, criticism,

review and critical writing. It is understood that the judge

is called a critic, therefore to engage in criticism is to

criticize.

Chapter five to eight is all about literary parts in a

literature. When we talk about literature what we mean are

the drama, poetry and prose. The writer here gave a clear

definition and a clear summary of these literary genres.

Drama is known to be acted on a stage which differs it from

others which are prose and poetry.

Chapter nine the 5W’s and H of literary criticism.

Criticism is all about analyzing a work of art. On this

chapter, the Who? Is understood to be the character, the

what? (Plot), the Where? (Setting), the When? (Time), the

Why? (Theme) and the How (Technique).

Chapter 10, new journalism as the name suggests is a

new form of gathering and reporting of issues and facts. Its

history is been stated clearly, its characteristics and

literary techniques are as well listed out and explained

briefly.

Chapter 11, types of literary criticism, on this chapter,

we discuss on various approaches that seemingly underline

literary criticism.
 Chapter 12, mass media theories relevant to critical

review, theories provide clarification on how phenomenon

works in real life situation.

Chapter 13 and 14 critical review, this is a critical

analysis of a work for instance an article, news story,

editorials, essay, a book, radio and television and among

others here, to criticize is same as making judgment,

summarizing and evaluating. We discuss the quality of

good critical review as well as its merit and demerits of

critical review of mass media content. When we talk of

mass media, it has to do with the public in general.

Chapter 15, analyzing the newspaper editorials in this

chapter clearly state out the functions of the editorial in the

media house. In publication of editorials on any print

media, you should read and reread the said editorial and

note the arguments presented and analyze them with these

details.
 Chapter 16 to 19 television programme, like we all

know, television criticism is the act of writing or speaking

about technical programming with a view to evaluating its

worth, meaning and other aspects. Television programme

are packaged to influence the behavior of the audience.

This chapter clearly list and explained various types of

movie genres and music genres as well.

Chapter 20, music and the mass media, no doubt

music is a characteristic features of the mass media, apart

from the broadcast media house; people listen to music for

the entertainment.

Chapter 21, Critical review of Artistic work. Art works

are men’s creative creation, they are mans effort at

expressing the power of imagination. This chapter looks

into the qualities of good art work and steps for arts critical

review.

 The book critical writing and review of mass media

contents consist of about 240 pages containing 22 chapters

With references, This book convincingly brings to light

the essence of legal research, the process involved and the

importance of legal research, the academic content is

greatly enhanced by multiple references made in some

cases.

Observations

The book ensures the reader understands what the

book is all about, through few chapters lacked indepth

discussions and unclear definitions.

Recommendation

The book is no doubt a complication of tried and

tested knowledge in the field of legal research methodology

and writing skills which is a very enlightening and

informative literature.
