EXERCISE NO. 7: CREATING PLANES

INSTRUCTIONS
Refer to pages 243-246 of Solidworks Essential Manual, explain the different example on ways of
creating planes based on your understanding.
ANSWERS

Offset Distance

(1)

This option in creating plane/s in solidworks requires a planar face or plane to be selected as
reference which is also to be offset with the specified value. In the image, a certain face is selected
and a property manager appears and the offset value is set to 1 in. A new plane could be populated
in series with the offset distance upon selecting a number of planes to be populated.

Angle

(2)

This is an option when we want to create a plane/s that is/are at angle with a certain planar face
or plane. This could be done by selecting the planar face or plane as our reference and an edge
or axis and set the desired value of angle in degrees in the property manager.

Coincident

(3)

This is another option in creating plane by the use of three vertices and set relation to be
coincident to each other. This could be done by selecting the 1 st, 2nd, and 3rd vertex in the 1st , 2nd,
and 3rd reference, respectively and click the coincident relation for each of these refences.

Coincident

(4)

The is other option in creating plane discussed in (3) but in only requires a certain edge in the 1st
reference and a vertex in the 2nd reference (can be interchaged) to generate a plane and set the
relation to be coincident.

Parallel

(5)

This option of creating a plane could also be done by selecti g a planar face and a vertex and set
a relation to be parallel. Only we need a certain planar face for our 1st reference and parallel, and
a vertex as the 2nd reference then set as coincident to the parallel plane craeted.

Tangent & Perpendicular

(6)

A plane can be generated from a cylindircal face which to be selected as the first reference and
set tangent relation and a face or planar plane perpendcular to that tangent plane created.

Tangent & Parallel

(7)

This another option of creating plane is the same as with (7), the only difference is that the second
planar face to be selected in the 2nd reference is parallel to the tangent plane in the 1st reference.

Mid Plane

(8)

A plane could also be created by means of selecting two planar faces with mid plane selection.
The plane will automatically be created.

Perpendicular at a Point

(9)

By means of a line and an end point, a plane could also be created by just selecting a line as the
first reference and an end point as the 2nd references.
