The new education policy of 2020 has brought numerous changes to the former education system. It
is better in many ways than the aged one because it has a more practical approach than students
just mugging up answers to score good grades. The 5+3+3+4 model has replaced the old 10+2
structure. With the implementation of artificial intelligence, the students will have a more
personalized learning. The marking system is also now based on to test the student’s aptitude and
the focus is to uplift a child’s higher-order skills, critical thinking and creativity.

The 5+3+3+4 model has four stages which are the Foundational Stage, which will focus on activity-
based learning to create room for creativity in a child’s mind. The Preparatory Stage, which would
gradually introduce the children to the basics of all subjects. Then comes the Middle Stage in which
the students would learn the abstract concepts of every subject they have studied in the preparatory
stage. And finally, the Secondary Stage, where the students will have to choose the subjects of their
interests and will develop their thinking skills. As we are in the era of the digital world, the students
will learn coding from class 6. In the new system, exams will not be conducted every year, but after
every stage of learning, which is in classes 3, 5 and 8.

National Educational Alliance for Technology aims to use artificial intelligence in the new learning
system. This will create a modern and a more personalized experience to the students. This will
indulge a sense of technology in the students at a very young age. But the main problem is to teach
the teachers how to use it to teach the students. This can be tough for the teachers who are not so
used to technology. The ease to learn something new generally decreases as we age. Another big
challenge would be to cater it to the rural areas, where people are not used to it, and it would also
take a huge amount of money to be established.

The new marking system focuses on a child’s ability to understand a problem, and not on a child’s
ability to mug up. This will cultivate a child’s reasoning skills, thinking skills and innovation. But due
to it, every question needs to be different when evaluating, because it will truly test the conceptual
and reasoning skills of the child. As examinations will be held only after each stage in the new
5+3+3+4 model, not many questions are needed to be made, but they all should be different.

Concluding that, the new education policy is no doubt, way better than the previous one, but comes
with a few challenges that are needed to be solved which would include teaching the teachers,
investing a huge amount of money, changing the textbooks and implementation of technology to
the remote areas. Once, the challenges are over, it will be a great success and the new-age children
would come out smarter from the school and would be ready to use their skills in the new world.
