Steering Removal/lnstallation

Steering Stem Remova/


'Remove the following parts.
Front Wheel
Front Brake Cable Clamp (KX60, KDX80 only)
Brake Hose Clamp (KX80 only)
Caliper Mounting Bolts (KX80 only)
Master Cylinder Clamp (KX80 only)
Front Fender
Handlebar
Front Fork
'Remove the steering stem head nut and washer.
'Remove the steering stem head- A. Steel Balls
•Push up on the stem base, and remove the steering
stem locknut with the stem nut wrench (special tool),
then remove the steering stem and stem base. ORemove the steering stem cap, and upper inner•race.
Then remove thé upper Steel balls. There are 23
Steel balls installed in the upper outer tace.
OFor the KXD; remove the upper tapered rolier bearing
*inner race.

•lnstailation is the reverse of removal.
'For the KW) and KDX80 models; apply grease liberally
to the upper and lower outer races in the head pipe so
that the Steel balls Will Stick in place during stem
insertion, and insta" upper and lower Steel

OFor the KX60 and KDX80 models; as the stem- is Model Position Size Number
re-moved, some of the Steel bals Will drop out of
the lower outer race. Upper &
ORemove the remaining ball bearings from the KX60 23

lower bearing outer race. For the KX60; there are 23

KDX80; there are 19 Steel balls installed in the KDX80
