Steering Adjustment

Steering Inspection
'Place a stand or block under the motorcycle so
that the front wheel is raised off the ground.
'With the front wheel pointing straight ahead, alter-
nately nudge each end of the handlebar. The front
wheel should swing fully left and right from the
force of gravity until the fork hits the stop.
the steering binds or catches before the stop,
check the routing of the cables, hoses, and harnesses.
the steering feels tight, adjust or 'lubricate the
steering.
•Feei for steering iooseness by pushing and pulling A. Stem Head Nut B. Stem Locknut

• Tighten the steering stem head nut to the specified


torque.
Tightening Torque:
"60, KDX80 : 34
KX80 : {3.5 kgq•n, 25 ft4b)
44 N-m (4.5 kg-m. 33 ft4b)
• Tighten the front fork lower clamp bolts to the
specified torque.
lightening Torwe:
KX60r
: 25 N-m (2.5 kg-m, 18 ft4b)
KX80 :
17 N-m (1.7 kg-m, 12 ft4b)

A. Push and Pull

Steering Adjustment
the front fork lower clamp bole and stem head
nut.
'Place a stand or block under the motorcycle so that
the front whéel is raiSed off the ground.
'Turn the steering stem locknut with the stem nut
wrench (special tool) to obtain the proper adjustment.
* If the steering is too tight* bosen the stem locknut .a
fraction of a turn; if the steering is too loose, tighten the
lotknut a fraction of a turn. Turn the locknut 118 turn at a
time maximum.
