An Alarm, Monitoring & Control system can:
 Display actual values
 Display positions of actuators / valves etc.
 Display active and saved faults
 Display values that are out of range (events)
 Recognize faulty components
 Recognize shorted or broken sensor / actuator wires
An Alarm, Monitoring & Control system can NOT:
 Find faults for you
 Recognize small deviations
 Recognize if a system displays the right value
 Think!!

An AMCS is more or less “just” a computer….

so someone needs to press the right buttons so it can do the job….

The BNWAS contains a watch timer which can be
adjusted in between 3 and 12 minutes.

In case the timer reaches zero, the BNWAS first warns

the officer on the bridge via a Visual Alarm LED. If the
officer on the bridge does not reset the BNWAS within
15 seconds, the audible alarm on the bridge is activated
as well.

If the officer on the bridge does not reset the BNWAS

within 15 seconds after the audible alarm on bridge is
activated, the officer alarm is activated as well.

If the on duty officer does not reset the BNWAS within

60-180 seconds (adjustable during installation) after the
audible alarm in the on duty officer's cabin is activated,
the audible alarm in all other officer cabins and a crew
audible alarm is activated as well.

4-20mA signaling principle:

The “Live Zero” at 4 mA, instead of 0 mA, offer the receiving component the possibility to measure the
difference between the zero-signal and a broken wire or defective component. This standard was developed
around 1950 and is still widely used in the industry.
